| Bionic Commando (2009)... The Video Game Of The Month For A Reason! |
Well, there was a lot of truly fun video games out there, rather you were an RPG fan, or a side scrolling shoot 'em game fan (There wasn't really much in the way of first person shooter games then... with the obvious exception of, 'Duck Hunt'...)
Anyway, during that time, one of my favorite video games on the NES (and still is one of my favorite games of that era was, Bionic Commando (1988)!

Now I do want to review this game eventually, so all I am gonna say, is this story is amazing, the graphics are kick ass, and the game play is easy enough... Ultimately it is just awesome!

New Killing Floor 2 Images Will Make You Look Forward To The Fun
Have I got your attention yet? Well lets try this then, Killing Floor, the awesome soon to be series that was created by: Tripwire, whose first game was originally developed exclusively for the PC has decided to make their sequel for the PS4 as well!
But for those fans out there of the original PC version, don't worry... Tripwire has announced that they are not going to be relegating the PC to a back seat to the Playstation 4... As a matter of fact, the game is set to be released both on the PC and the Playstation 4 later this year!

Five Great Horror Movies To Buy On Black Friday 2014
Black Friday... As time has gone on, and more and people have kind of latched on to the idea of it, more and more people have been heading out to do their Christmas shopping on this day, what with all of the amazing deals that are around then! Top Five Killer Disturbed Songs

The reason that I say this is the fact that there sound is truly spectacular, I mean they seem anyway to me to take the best part of a lot of heavy metal bands of the 90s, including: Metallica & Marilyn Manson as well as Nine Inch Nails, and turn that in to a sound that is all there own!
So for those of you guys who are fans, I thought you guys would enjoy this, and for those of you haven't heard them yet... Well I thought that you guys would enjoy the 5 songs that I would consider to be the top 5 best songs they have ever made! So enjoy!

Four Prolific Musicians/Bands Whose Contributions Helped To Define Heavier Music In The 20th Century!
There are and always will be some truly spectacular musicians out there that really know what the hell they are doing, and it really shows... But in all truth, there are a particular subset of musicians out there that I would say their music is so prolific that even decades after they broke up and or died, that these bands are still heavily influencing new musicians all over the world... So I thought I would let you guys in on a couple of these...
At number 4: Elvis Presley (1935 - 1977):

Now here is a guy that not only had some amazing tunes that really rocked, but when he was still alive, his music helped trailblaze the, 'Rock 'N Roll' genre from being something that annoying old people tried their very best to outlaw, to being a respectable musical form the people admired... And still do! When he was alive, Men wanted to be him, and women wanted to be with him... In the end he had been crowned, 'The King Of Rock' before he died, and to this day he still holds that title!

But as for Elvis making the way for, 'The Beatles' and other bands and musicians to make there way in to the genre in an era of respectability, The Beatles didn't do that... They both had very distinct sounds, but in the case of, 'The Beatles' I am going to have to say that these trailblazers were really the direct ancestors of the modern, 'Metal' scene!

Now this guy was something different... I mean he had his harder music, but as for Michael Jackson... He had the tendency to meld Rock 'N Roll, with Pop/R&B type of music in a pretty fun melding... And ultimately rather he was doing Disco (which it does seem like he did a lot when he was kid, or playing his more heavier stuff, Michael Jackson was crowned the, 'King Of Pop' before he died, and at this point it is pretty safe to say that he still owns that crown!

UniWar (2009) - Video Game Review

One thing that I have begun to kind of find to be rather interesting is the various mediums that you can play games on...
What do I mean by this? Well when I was a kid and first started getting in to video games, even just the portable video game system was still pretty much in it's infancy, and most of the portable games that were out there (even some of the better games for the time), were extremely poorly constructed!
But when Nintendo released it's first portable multiple video game system, 'The original gameboy'... Well what can I say? I was a kid... So of course I had to have it! And boy was that something! Besides the fact that you could play any number of specially designed games for that system, the graphics were surprisingly great, the music was fun... And in all truth, that game system was a just a total blast, and certainly well worth it!
The reason that I mention this, is that a few years ago when I first started slowly getting back in to playing video games, I came to discover something that was actually pretty cool... That a lot like the original, 'Gameboy' that I had enjoyed so much as a kid, that mobile phones were starting to not just release games for mobile phones, but were actually starting to release some pretty awesome ones!
And one of these games that I had gotten in to at the time that I enjoyed was, 'UniWar' (2009)!

Developed By: Javaground exclusively for mobile phones, this game is a turn based strategy game that will pit you against either a set of computers or against various players all over the world... In the game you can either play as one of three separate races, either as the Humans, as Robots or as Aliens.
The idea behind the game is that the player is supposed to destroy the other players/computers by destroying the enemy forces, and slowly taking over their bases.

This game definitely has it's moments![/caption]
Now here is the thing, this game can actually be a lot of fun, but the truth is, is this game has only long lasting appeal if you are in a situation where you don't really have anything to do for long periods of time... I hate to say it, but if you are looking for a game that is similar on par to say, (One of the old Warcraft games...) Well the truth is is that this is not one of those games, but if you are looking for something fun to keep you occupied when you are bored, or are waiting in a really long line, then this game really is one of those games that will hold your interest during that time... Otherwise, if you are expecting to enjoy this game for years... Think again...

Rammstein: Haifisch (2009) - Song Review

When I was in boarding school there wasn't a whole heck of a lot of things to do after everyone wrapped up the days activities, so one of the things that I used to like to do is to sit on a bench that was behind the backdoor to the kitchen and watch the stars and listen to heavy metal music on my portable CD player (considering the fact that I come from L.A. Where there is no stars hardly ever, and being as it is, having the portable CD player with me was a real treat...)
Well since I left boarding school I have kind of stopped doing though, and so I have to say that it is pretty rare for me to take pause and just spend a few minutes and listen to a truly great song... That has actually happened to me recently when I heard Rammstein's 'Haifisch' (2009) come on Pandora!

Recorded on Universal's label, I have to admit that I found this one to be extremely fun! This song, which got it's first live performance during a show in Berlin (that was limited to fans only), has some great beats, and the vocals were truly awesome, but you know what? The thing that I have to admit that I truly liked about this song is both, but more so then anything, I found that the arrangement of this song just made for a truly kick-ass fun song!

The Main Mistake When Remaking Horror Movies...

As we all know, Hollywood, for about the last decade or so, has been remaking just about everything that has ever come out... With a special emphasis on remaking horror movies...
I have wondered why this is... I mean is it because they are out of ideas? Or maybe Hollywood in it's bid to continue to suck out every cent that they could out of some of horror's most classic horror movie franchises (like, 'Friday The 13th', or 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'... Just to name a few.)
Well for whatever the reasons that maybe, there is one thing that they have mostly done wrong when it comes to trying to remake these movies... In my opinion it is one of the biggest mistakes that they have made... It is a mistake that they don't always make... But they do often make... That is, the choices that the studios make for the people they hire to write the story for the remade masterpiece!

Fright Night (2011)... One of the more recent remakes that has had very mixed reviews![/caption]
Now you might be asking, 'why is that so important?' I imagine some of you are probably thinking, 'that's nonsense... The biggest problem is the fact that they over CGI everything!' Well, to that last one I will say that it is definitely one of the problems, but in my opinion the writing is the main problem!
As for the writers themselves... Well, for the most part, they are in-and-of-themselves not bad writers... I'm just not convinced that all of them are fans of the genre, or fans of the original movies that they are trying to remake... You have to have that if you are going to have a successful remake!
A couple of good examples of this are:
1. A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)... Let's be honest here... This movie stunk, as far as a remake goes, this movie was virtually killed off a legendary series that had for itself created: 7 sequels, a TV series, helped launch the careers of a lot of A list celebrities, including: Johnny Depp (Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl), Breckin Meyer (Rat Race) and Patricia Arquette (True Romance) as well as having created tons of media in just about every venue... I mean Freddy Krueger was a house hold name... but when the remake came out that all pretty much has gone to pot, with no new, 'Nightmare' movies currently being released!

With this one, you just have to ask yourself, 'Why?'[/caption]
2. Friday The 13th (2009), in all truth, I thought that this movie was better then the, 'Nightmare' remake, but again... This movie series was a house hold name because of it's popularity, and since the release of the remake movie, has not seen another, 'Friday' movie on the horizon!

Either way, the main reason that I think that these movies tanked is because of the story! I mean don't get me wrong... If you are like me, then you probably had a hard time getting past the fact that Robert Englund (Urban Legends) was no longer, 'Freddy'... But, Friday The 13th, really did not have that excuse... And story wise was just not as good (I mean they tried to rely on the success of the, 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' remake for this movie scene wise... And they tried to change the basic makeup of, 'Jason' himself... To say the least... A big mistake!)
Now I have shown you the negative side... I wanted to show you the positive side as well with Rob Zombie (House Of 1,000 Corpses) did with his remake!
Before I go on... Let me say this, Rob Zombie is a true fan of the Halloween series, (he has mentioned it in a few of the interviews that I have seen him do about the, 'Halloween' movies,) with that in mind, it shows!

Mainly I say this because I personally believe that Rob Zombie took the story to such an extreme that not only was it fun, but I felt it really honored the original vision of John Carpenter (The Ward) and Mr. Carpenter's vision for the original movie!
Well if you haven't seen it yet, I won't say to much, just to say that, John Carpenter's original 1978 classic, 'Halloween' movie is my favorite movie, but I also thoroughly enjoyed Rob Zombie's version as well!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D & Star Trek... Two Great Examples Of Movie Series Rebooted
That's right folks, these 2 movies, both being almost polar opposites of each other really got it right!
What do I mean by this? Well before I go in to this, let me give you a little background in to why these series ultimately really did need to be rebooted... Starting with, 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'.

Now this movie series started off with the ultra popular classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)... A movie that was directed by Tobe Hooper (Eaten Alive)... Now this movie would go on to live in the hearts and minds of true horror fans, and would spawn a few sequels, and a remake series...
The problem is, is that like all great horror franchises, the production company allowed the series to degenerate in to unbearable campyness... That was until, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994)... This movie was so bad that they went in to full on remake mode!
Well the truth is, is the remakes truly did do the series some justice, and kind of rubbed off some of the stank that came with, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation... The problem though, is that for some reason, the studio decided not really to follow through the remake series very well, because directly after the first remake movie, they decided to do the pre-quel... Well both were good... It just sucked to see them end so quickly!

And then came, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D (2013) rather or not you liked this movie or not, there is one area that I found not only to be extremely bad ass, but in a way, this movie could have stunk otherwise (It didn't), but having this element being apart of the movie, just made it all worth while!
That being just how well they rebooted the series!
What I mean by that, is that they essentially cut out the original series sequels, and started this movie as if it was a sequel to the Tobe Hooper classic original... But not only did they do that, and do that well, but they also did something that I don't remember ever seeing in any movie, that was done right, but have always wanted to see it, and see it done right, and that is to see the after math of the events from the previous horror movie!
There are many other reasons to see this movie, but the truth is, is these 2 I think are 2 of the better reasons!

As far as Star Trek (2009) goes, I can go on and on about that movie, but the truth is, is that I liked the way they rebooted the series for that movie as well (essentially they gradually and comfortably refocused the story by changing events in the main story line, so that the original story can be told with a fresh perspective, and the truth is, I found that cool, considering that the original story was running out of wiggle room, and Paramount at the time had a moratorium on anything Star Trek, after, 'Enterprise' and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) bombed...)

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (2009) - Video Game Review

One of the first video games that I got when I first bought my XBox 360 was. 'F.E.A.R.' (2005)... And I got to say that I was truly impressed by the game, I mean I haven't played a whole heck of a lot of horror video games that were just a total blast... But this one was definitely one of them... And so has the rest of the series as well!
You see, I suspect that this game was modeled after, 'Resident Evil' (2006), but was made using the first person shooter format that would quickly take over the older, 'Over-view style' format... And I have to say that it really worked for the first one, and was just made even better with the release of, 'F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin' (2009)!
Developed by: Monolith Productions & Published by: WB Games. This story starts off roughly toward the tale end of the first video game, in which you play as Michael Beckett, who is a Delta Force officer, who along with the rest of his team, is sent in to take Genevieve Aristide (is the besieged head of Armacham.)

But there is an evil brewing that is threatening to destroy the world... And that is, 'Alma' (generally speaking she is probably the biggest bad of this series as she seems to be directly connected to just about every game that I have played with her in it to date...)
And after the explosion, (this was the ending of the first game and the lead in to just being it's own time line.) Beckett ends up waking up at a Hospital... Where in he and his team begin to research the truth behind a, 'Project Harbinger' and how he and his team relate to it, (and Alma)...
But Beckett and his team are going to have to work quick before Alma can catch up with Beckett and his team and, 'connect up' with Beckett!

Please Bring Halloween Back

There is a great crime that is being perpetrated against horror movie fans all over the world! Not a literal crime, but one that never the less has had some negative impact... That is the crime of making crummy remakes of some of the most historically relevant and prolific horror movies of all time, and then making it seem as though, those series have a very unfortunate end!
Two great examples of this are the movies, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' &, 'Friday The 13th'... Both had recently been remade, (A Nightmare On Elm Street in 2010, and Friday The 13th in 2009... And up until recently it was looking like those series were going to die in a way that is almost sacrilgeous... (After a crappy movie...))
Fortunately there has been rumors circulating around the internet that both movies were going to have their remake sequels (and chances at either redemption, or a proper end... An end with a bang, instead of a whimper!)
And now it looks like the morons in the studios are doing the same thing with the next, 'Halloween' sequel...

I will admit that it probably was a major blow that Rob Zombie (Halloween) was not coming back to the remake series that he had helped bring in to the world... But the truth is, is that Halloween... (I would almost say more so then, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street', and, 'Friday The 13th'... If anything, just because Halloween has been around longer then these two, and was part of the inspiration for, 'Friday The 13th) is one series that should be adequately maintained, with a new movie coming out!
I will tell you why... Primarily it is because of the fans... I mean since the start of the new millennium, studios have been coming out with these remakes for these classic horror movies that started some of the most historically most important/prolific horror movies of all time, and the doing nothing to make up the damage...
As a fan of all of these series I will be honest and say that I am one of them (especially with Halloween), and I will be honest and say that in a studio system that has just about openly admitted at this point that it cares more about its revenue streams, then entertaining audiences, that it seems odd that they wouldn't try to keep these series that have proven to be box office successes alive (or at the least give them an end with some dignity...)

5 Great Musicians Taken Before Their Time!
You know, you would think that one of the most dangerous art forms to work in would be like, 'The Circus' or, 'Daredevil Stunt Work' and the truth is, is that those are some of the more dangerous art based professions to work in, but the truth is, is that I wouldn't say that these are the only dangerous art professions at all! Oddly enough, believe it or not, I would say that becoming a famous actor at a young age, or being a musician are some of the other ones!
Now I am not saying this because the professions is inherently fraught with risks, and thus you should not be working in these professions...
No, I guess what I am trying to say is that these professions are definitely not the most risky jobs in the world (Any job more or less has a slight degree of risk associated with it, but acting and music are by far some of the least professions fraught with peril!) No in this case what I mean is that they are some of the most dangerous because they have some of the biggest pitfalls there are! And because of that we have lost some truly phenomenal actors/actresses and musicians in the hole!
And that is why I thought that I would honor some of the great musicians that died before their time with this list of, '5 Great Musicians Taken Before Their Time'!

Friday The 13th (2009) - Movie Review

Remakes are an interesting can of worms, you see, you would think that they would use some bit of technology that when the original movie did not have, or would add something that the original filmmakers forgot to put in, and that would make it better, right?
Well sadly, it usually doesn't, I mean for me it doesn't make the movie better, but actually worse, just worse in a way where if the movie was a stand alone it could be good, but as a connected film to a masterpiece it usually sucks.
The reason that I mention this is because, Friday The 13th (2009), as a stand alone would have been fun! A great example of this is, 'Jason Voorhees', as the killer in the original Friday The 13th movies, he is almost more of a supernatural monster then a regular killer... In the remake he is this weird sort of maniac animal that is always wearing a hockey mask...
Another great example of all of this is the fact that they still never really explain why after Jason some how ends up making it out of the lake, why he is still obsessed with his mother, but never ends up making it back to her, I mean in the original I always assumed that there was some sort of supernatural reason why he came back to life and never ended up coming back to his mother... But in the remake they pretty much openly admit that he is still alive but is living out his life as weird sort of hermit!

Also, in the remake movie, it seems like the entire town of, 'Crystal Lake' knows about Jason and his killing spree, but are not interested in doing anything about it... Weird huh?
But that is the bad stuff, the truth is, is there is some good stuff to, I liked the cast, and how they had the classic group of friends who came to Crystal Lake for the weekend and end up all getting killed off... I liked Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) and the work that he did as the concerned brother who is just trying to rescue his sister, and ends up along with Danielle Panabaker (Mr. Brooks) fighting against the big bad monster in the final battle...

I wish that they did better, but they didn't, so fair enough, if you are a fan of the series you may not love this movie, but I do think it will keep you interested in the series, and if you are new to it, well... But in all truth, the direction that the series was taking had this movie really going the only way that it could... I wish that they did better, but they didn't, so fair enough, if you are a fan of the series you may not love this movie, but I do think it will keep you interested in the series, and if you are new to it, well... The Hole (2009) - Movie Review

When I was a kid I first discovered the works of people like, 'R.L. Stein'. R.L. Stein is an author who kind of would write young adult horror novels that all the kids for what ever reason in my class seemed to love, except me... Back then I was deep in to the works of authors like Stephen King! With that said though, the work of R.L. Stein as well as other authors of similar ilk became so popular, that besides merchandising, A TV show was made based on the works of R.L. Stein, as well as movies of similar ilk! Now I will be honest, I still am not a huge fan of these types of works, but I can definitely see their value for children, and I will admit that, The Hole (2009) is definitely one of them! Written by: Mark L. Smith (Vacancy), Directed by: Joe Dante (Innerspace). Starring: Chris Massoglia (A Plumm Summer), Haley Bennett (Marley & Me), Nathan Gamble (The Dark Knight), Teri Polo (Meet The Fockers) & Bruce Dern (The Driver). This movie tells the tale of a family that has been terrorized by letters from an abusive and deadly father that has been in prison for awhile but every letter sends them in to a talespin and sends them packing... After the latest move the family settles in to their new life, in there new house, with their bottomless pit! Now at first the hole serves to bring together brothers, Dane (Massoglia), and Lucas (Gamble) as they get more and more curious about the hole and how deep it goes!

But weird things begin to happen though you see, first off, Julie gets trapped in the woman's bathroom and the lights go out, and eventually a creepy little girl ends up walking by her... That is until one of Julie's friend's comes walking in and turns the lights back on. Lucas gets to confront his fear of clowns, when a clown doll shows up to scare the hell out of him! And for some reason Lucas also ends up seeing the same creepy little girl that Julie did! Now as things get worse and worse for the trio, the boys mother, 'Susan' (Polo) ends up taking off for the weekend... The stage is set for the three of them to face their fears in the worst possible way... Because in the dark of the hole, fear follows!

In the end, I can definitely see how this movie is something that kids would enjoy, but for the more serious horror connoisseur, this movie's plot line was full of holes and some what confusing (despite the fact that this movie had a great premise.) There are no real scares, thrills or chills, and at one point I could tell that Joe Dante seemed to be trying to give some element of Beatlejuice when the brothers end up going in to the hole... But let's put it this way... This is no Beatlejuce! Now on the plus side, there is some pretty awesome talent that make appearances in it, including: Bruce Dern, and Teri Polo! In the end though I had to see this movie to review it, but if I knew then what I know now, I probably would not have seen this one personally!

Why I Am Still A Huge Fan Of Michael Jackson!

When I was a kid one of my favorite musicians that I was a huge fan of (and kind of grew up listening to his music) is Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009), I followed his career as much as any kid could through the late 80s, and even through out the early to mid 90s when he was starting to loose his standing with his fans due to the scandals and allegations, and I remained (and still remain) a fan of this master musicians work to this very day!
Why I am still such a fan, despite the fact that his last (well this is my opinion, but I do think there is some element of truth in this,) but the last truly great album that he did was the one that he did around 1995... Well that is simple... And I will admit that I kind of lost interest in some his more easy listening albums of his later years... But the truth is, is that his more hardcore songs, (Smooth Criminal, Scream & even Thriller), definitely had that R&B Pop element that was pretty much always there, (although sometimes it was little harder to see then others), but there was also other genre influences that I saw in his music (like rock 'n roll in the songs that I mentioned above)...
Another thing that I found to be most fascinating is the fact that in a lot of ways I found that the songs (especially when you see the music videos) were very strongly representative of the time in which the music video was made (with probably one of the few exceptions being, 'Smooth Criminal'... What with the story line in that song taking place in the, 'Gangster' Days.)

A great example of this is, 'Beat it'! Now Beat it was made just barely after what I would say is the look between the 1970s and the 1980s, so there was definitely an element of the 70s (very small... But like most decades, the early part of it does seem to draw some minor inspiration from the decade that preceded it!)
But besides some minor inspiration from the 1970s, for the most part this song had the look, the feel, and the sound of just about everything that in my opinion made the early 1980s great! (Granted most of what I know about that part of the 80s is based on what I saw in movies and TV shows because I was still in diapers when, 'Beat It' came out in 1983!)
Nevertheless another truly great song, a song that I felt was strongly representative of the look/feel/style of the late 80s (really all the way up through the early early 90s was another truly classic song that he did, 'The Way You Make Me Feel'!
And you know what, I will admit that when I first heard about the Child Molestation scandal that rocked his career... I will admit that once I found out what all that was, I thought it was pretty odd, and it did color my perceptions of him and his career... But in all truth, I thought (and still do think) that despite that, Michael Jackson was still an amazing musician (sadly I think that this may have roughly been about around the time when he started having his problems with medications...)
Never the less, I was sad to see him go in to relative obscurity... I mean the guy had a truly legendary career!

And when he started popping back up in the world, in the new millennium, I gotta say that I was truly impressed with some of the work that this amazing talent still had in him, and when I heard about his second set of child abuse allegations, I gotta admit that I was truly shocked and appalled to hear about the second sexual abuse scandal... But I was also glad to hear that he made it past all that!
The truth is, is I strongly suspect that due to the fact that Michael Jackson was an international superstar since he was pretty young, he ended up having some unusual tendencies, and so was he an odd guy... Sure, but he was not a bad guy, and was a truly a prolific musician/actor, and I was truly saddened to hear when he had past away back in 2009!
With that said, absence truly does make the heart grow fonder I suppose, because I have to admit that I was a little shocked to see just the true outpouring of love for the guy and his work... The truth is, is he absolutely deserved (and still does) every ounce of love and respect he got at his death, but if he had gotten that same outpouring when he was alive, I suspect he still would be entertaining audiences all over the world with his live performances!
Anyway, I don't mean to attack anyone for anything, but being a fan through thick and through thin, I have to say that I am sorry to have seen such an amazing talent gone from the world, but for me, I am still a huge fan of Michael Jackson's work and always will be!
