Reg Barclay (Dwight Schultz) talking with, 'Professor Moriarity' on the Holodeck in, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'!
Ok, so for those of you who don't know what the Holodeck is... Well it is an interactive room that was first introduced in the popular late 80s, early 90s TV series, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'! Now the idea behind it is this, you could basically design interactive simulations of any nature that you might want... And they could seem as real as you wanted them to be... You could be surfing off the cost of Hawaii, or fighting an intergalactic war! Sounds awesome, right? Well unfortunately we are not there yet... But soon... Here is what I mean...
Target practice on board Voyager's holodeck, 'How cool would that be?
Ok, so first off let me say this... The biggest hurdle is this... Not all of the technology that is needed for this type of device is invented yet... But there is certainly some, that definitely can give us a good start! First off, we do have holography... Star Trek level? No... But definitely Star Wars level... I mean I have seen a exhibit that a holographer did, about a dollar that looked so real, that when the exhibit said to try to reach for the dollar, I did... And wouldn't you know it, my hand went right through it! And well folks, I can see how having holographic communications devices aren't exact very easy, (and probably fairly costly,) I can definitely see how they can be used, in that way, and how they could be used to make the first Holodeck Video Game System!
How awesome is this!
The only thing that hasn't been completely figured out is how to create a forcefield that is flexible enough to make the objects in the holodeck feel solid and permeable... But soon... I hope!
Sonic maybe running around in different video game consoles, but that wasn't always the case...
These days, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' is known for the video games that have been done for such systems as, 'Playstation', or, 'Nintendo Wii', but before Sonic became mostly a secondary character on various cross-platform systems, Sonic brought to prominence the, 'Sega Genesis', in the same way that, 'Mario' brought to prominence the, 'Nintendo'!
And speaking of that...
Ok, so not only did Sonic help bring the, 'Sega Genesis' to prominence, but one of the other things that it did was to make Sega dominate the video game market from the early 1990s, really up to when Sony released the, 'Playstation', and Microsoft brought to the world, the, 'X-Box'!
The Sega Genesis was so popular in the 1990s, that it gave, 'Nintendo' a run for it's money!
And yet another thing that Sonic really did kind of help do very well, was to do with merchandising and cartoons for the 90s, what Mario did for the 1980s!
Now to speak about the series... Ok, so the fact is, is I have connected Sonic and Mario very close together, and the truth is, is that, 'Yes' they have some connection, but the truth is, is they are two very different video games and let me explain what I mean by this:
1. Sonic is an animal in a world that has mostly animals in it. Mario is a human that was transported to a world with his brother that is sort of a mix of both humans and various animals.
2. In the Mario games, the big bad is a dinosaur, while in Sonic The Hedgehog, the big bad is a human.
3. In most of the Mario games, Mario and Luigi are trying to save a, 'Princess' and Sonic and Tails are trying to save the Animal populace of his world.
Sonic & Mario have their similarities and differences, but in the end, one of the main things that they both did is to bring to prominence their respective video game systems they started off with, and the companies they came from!
Now as far as the franchise itself goes, Sonic The Hedgehog... The best things about this franchise, is that in no matter what platform the current, 'Sonic' game is under, the characters are always kid friendly, and the games are always fun for all ages... And the truth... Sega may have failed in it's video game system design, but the truth is, is Sonic will always translate to the next generation!
Bionic Commando (2009)... The Video Game Of The Month For A Reason!
When I first got in to playing video games, the video game system that had been really popular had been the, 'NES'... (I know, practically the stone age compared to modern systems...) Well, there was a lot of truly fun video games out there, rather you were an RPG fan, or a side scrolling shoot 'em game fan (There wasn't really much in the way of first person shooter games then... with the obvious exception of, 'Duck Hunt'...) Anyway, during that time, one of my favorite video games on the NES (and still is one of my favorite games of that era was, Bionic Commando (1988)!
This game was so much fun... I am glad they made a sequel to it!
Well I recently discovered an updated version of this game, that as it turns out is a sequel to the classic NES game... That game being: Bionic Commando (2009)! Now I do want to review this game eventually, so all I am gonna say, is this story is amazing, the graphics are kick ass, and the game play is easy enough... Ultimately it is just awesome! For more information, check out this trailer for the game!
The Avengers are about to be turned in to Lego form again for this falls Lego video game, 'Marvel's Avengers'!
Jurassic World (2015) & Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)... If you haven't heard of them yet... Well let me set your mind at ease... Both movies are the highly anticipated sequels to some of Hollywood's biggest franchises (i,e. Jurassic World, is the latest sequel in the, 'Jurassic Park' series, and Avengers: 'Age Of Ultron', is the sequel to the blockbuster 2012 movie, 'The Avengers'!) But we here at Hellinspace have come to discover something kind of interesting... It turns out that LEGO is planning on releasing both, 'Jurassic World', and, 'Marvel's Avengers' lego video games... later this year!
Jurassic World maybe coming to the big screen soon, but the LEGO video game version won't be far on it';s tail!
That's right folks, according to: Gamesradar. Jurassic World will be a lego form video game that will allow the player to play in a lego version of, 'Jurassic World', as well as all of it's predecessor movies (also in lego form)! As for, 'The Avengers' this game it looks like thus far will be a family friendly re-creation of the original movie in all of it's true awesomeness! Jurassic World is set to be released on: PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, and PS Vita, some time in June, and Marvel's Avenger is set for release some time this fall!
Have I got your attention yet? Well lets try this then, Killing Floor, the awesome soon to be series that was created by: Tripwire, whose first game was originally developed exclusively for the PC has decided to make their sequel for the PS4 as well! But for those fans out there of the original PC version, don't worry... Tripwire has announced that they are not going to be relegating the PC to a back seat to the Playstation 4... As a matter of fact, the game is set to be released both on the PC and the Playstation 4 later this year! Now this good news, and the upcoming photos are courtesy of: Gamespot! Before we show you the images for Killing Floor 2, please enjoy this trailer for the original... Killing Floor (2009)!
And now, please enjoy these screenshots from Killing Floor 2 (2015)!
We all know about the modern heroes of the world of video games, I mean who doesn't know of, 'Master Chief' from Microsoft's popular, 'Halo' video game series... And if you are a little bit older, I am sure you guys will remember, 'Sonic the Hedgehog' from the famous Sega series, or, ' Mario' from Nintendo's legendary, 'Super Mario Bros.' franchise... (All though I will admit that Mario is as much a modern day hero as any of the rest of them!) But I thought that I would go back through the decades here and I thought it would be fun to talk about two in particular that I personally, I think you will agree, should be brought back to prominence! Let's get started! At number 1: Earthworm Jim Earthworm Jim, now here is a game that has been ported from just about all the great video game systems of the last 20 years or so, and has been also on Computer as a Computer game!
At number 2: The Battletoads... A popular set of heroes that had games on just about all of the famous video game systems of the era (Nintendo/Famicom, the Amiga, The Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Game Gear, and that is just to name a few!)
There are a ton more, these two in particular I decided to mention because... I mean lets be honest here, they are pretty awesome, and almost completely forgotten!
That's right folks after a long wait and a lot of requests to bring it back, our official store at, HellsDepot.com is not only back with the same great product that the world has come to love during our time on Amazon... But we are embarking on a new realm of expansion! So set back, and relax, and prepare for some great product at prices so low that you would think you had to sell your soul for them!
With Christmas coming up tomorrow we are closing our doors for the rest of the week... But from everyone here at Hellinspace to all you awesome fiends out there, we would like to wish you a very, 'MERRY CHRISTMAS,' and we look forward to giving you guys the same great reviews and blogs when we come back next week!
These Toads ruled on the small screen and would on the.big.screen as well!
You know there has been a lot of video games over the years that have been made in to some pretty fun movies... And well, there have also been some pretty lousy movies that have been made from video games as well, but with this series of blogs talking about certain Video Games, or Cartoons or what have you, that should finally be turned in to a movie, I am hopping to bring awareness to filmmakers eventually about the pluses of finally making these movies! And for my latest one, I wanted to talk about, 'Battletoads'... A classic series that should have been brought to the big screen! Now for those of you that don't know what Battletoads are, they started off initially as a cartoon about a group of kick-ass Toads that can also fight crime... as well turn back in to their alter ego (three School aged kids!)
By day, a bunch of children, by night crime fighting Toads!
Now since then, this cartoon has been turned in to at least a couple of freaking awesome video games, as well as other forms of media! As for the reason that I think you the filmmaker should finally make this movie, is because this series enjoyed a lot of popularity when it first came out, it almost certainly would again... And for the studios... Well let's be honest, the more popular the movie is, the more money you are going to make! So in the end I must ask, 'Please Bring Battletoads To The Big Screen'! But don't take it from me, check out these videos that represent a small piece of the Battletoads package!
Michael and his sister are in attendance for this!
We here at Hellinspace.com would like to wish all of you fiends out there a very scary and Happy Halloween! With 2 years under our belt, the crew at Hellinspace are taking off and partying! But check back with us for more of that great content you guys know you love, when we come back on November 1st!
Like all great things, if you follow it from the beginning, you get the opportunity to see what ever endeavor you are engaged in flourish from the beginning, and see it grow, and evolve... And so I thought that you guys would enjoy the evolution of, 'Mario' as seen in the various, 'Super Mario Bros./Mario Bros.' Games! Donkey Kong.
Mario in his first ever appearance in the original, 'Donkey Kong'!
Now you might be wondering why I have worked Donkey Kong in to the equation... Well, it may not technically be a, 'Mario Bros' game so to speak... But this game is the first game ever to introduce the character. Mario Bros.
Mario before he became the man everyone Nintendo fan knows and loves!
Now here is an interesting one, this Mario is from before he was on, 'Nintendo' in, 'Super Mario Bros.', He had a one hit wonder on the Atari 2600 and Atari 5200 with, 'Mario Bros.' Super Mario Bros.
Mario from, 'Super Mario Bros.'
The Mario us old timers have come to know and love! Super Mario Bros 2.
It looks like Mario is getting a little clearer in, 'Super Mario Bros 2'
In Super Mario Bros 2, we begin to see Mario become a little bit more defined, and a little bit more like a real person. Super Mario Bros 3.
In Super Mario Bros 3, we see that Mario is able to pick from more options of super powers he can gain.
In Super Mario Bros 3, Mario and his crew are given more super powers... Including the ability to fly with his raccoon suite! Super Mario World.
Mario really wants that level up!
Super Mario World would see the transition for Mario and the rest of his gang from the NES to the SNES. Super Mario 64.
Yikes!
Super Mario 64 would see another transition for Mario and his crew, from the SNES to the Nintendo 64. Super Mario Sunshine.
Whose up for a little sunshine?
An odd name, but it looks like this game would bring Mario in to the Nintendo Game Cube... As a first person shooter? New Super Mario Bros.
The Bros are back!
New Super Mario Bros would bring Mario in to the world of both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii! Super Mario Galaxy.
That is a big ball!
This would see Mario in a whole new adventure on the Wii!
It's so awesome that they brought back the raccoon suite!
In Super Mario 3D Land we get to see Mario on his next big adventure on the Nintendo DS in the second 3D platform to grace the portable system! New Super Mario Bros. U
A new suite?
This is one I thought I would put up because in all honesty, it is one of the newest, and it does show Mario with a new suite! Super Mario 3D World
Almost got it... Almost got it...
Now Super Mario 3D World I thought that I would mention here because between the first time Mario is ever seen, and this one, the change is absolutely amazing! I will be honest with you guys and say that I have skipped a few games... But to be honest, in the evolutionary sense of what we have been working toward, those games would not have really given you something new... This here should give you a clear look at Mario's humble beginnings to where he is now!
This magazine may have joined the dearly departed, but it will never be forgotten!
That's right folks... If you were born before the 1990s I imagine that you would not have only heard of , but maybe actually owned this magazine, a magazine that during it's production was initially called, 'Nintendo Fun Club News'! Now for a little bit of history about this magazine, first off, this magazine was initially being created in house at, 'Nintendo Of America' as, 'Nintendo Fun Club' back in the mid to late 80s! Well it looks like in 1988 that, that this particular magazine was discontinued in favor of bringing to the world of Video Games at the time, 'Nintendo Power'!
Nintendo Fun Club News was the pre-cursor to Nintendo Power.
Now the intention of Nintendo Power was to act as sort of a news/strategy guide, (initially just for video games that were made in house at Nintendo, but later would include games and what not that were licensed through Nintendo...) This magazine would continue on through out the decades leading up to it's unfortunate end back in 2012... But during the height of it, and after Nintendo released the follow up console to the, 'NES', Nintendo Power started to add cartoon strips that would include stories from such classic games as: 'Super Mario World' and, 'Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past', and that is just to name a few!
Super Mario Adventures was the name of serialized comic that ran in Nintendo Power after the release of the Super Nintendo!
And that is just to name a few of the gimmicks that Nintendo Power did over the years that it has been around. a couple of more examples being a, 'Top 200 Video Game list' in issues 196 - 200, a top 20 list of all of the games that have ever been released for a Nintendo console as a way to celebrate Nintendo Power's 20th anniversary, and again that is just a few of them... Because if I explained all of the ones that have been around over the decades, we could be here for awhile... Never-the-less, sadly, with the downfall of Nintendo Power, this magazine and all of it's issues have since become collector's items, so heck, if you are looking for a Christmas item for the gamer fan in your life this year... This might be the right gift for him or her!
This magazine maybe gone, but will never be forgotten!
With Halloween just around the corner, if you are like me, well then there are literally dozens of very proper ways to keep yourself properly entertained (especially if you are to old to go trick 'r treating...) You could watch a bunch of horror movies, or you could read a good horror novel (There are a lot of classics out there that I am sure will scare the hell out of you...) Or... You could stock up on some great horrific first person shooter video games! And so... I thought that I would recommend a few classic and contemporary horrific first person shooter games that I thought that you guys might enjoy! At number 5: Resident Evil (1996):
On today's video game systems, people generally seem to thoroughly enjoy, 'first person shooter' video games... And why not? I mean these games rock, and as time goes on, with better graphics and more interactive game play. these games just generally seem to be getting better and better! But before games like, 'Call Of Duty' came out, generally speaking, first person shooters generally tended to be left in the back row... Relegated to computer games and lesser console games, but I thought for those of you that may not remember these games, and for those of you who are to young to have played these games when they were first popular... I thought that I would discuss what I believe are five defining first person shooter games that rocked before the rest of the world caught on: At number 5: Heretic (1994).
At number 4: Wolfenstein 3D (1992).
At number 3: Doom (1993).
At number 2: Duke Nukem 3D (1996).
At number 1: Quake (1996).
There are a lot more out there, but for those of you out there who are like me, who truly enjoyed these games, before the rest of the world caught on to the awesomeness that is the first person shooter game... I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane... And if you have never played these games, give them a try... They are a blast!
Contra... A particularly violent game... Definitely one that boys enjoyed back in the day!
When I was a kid, one of the things that I discovered at a very young age (as a matter of fact, I think I may have been in either 3rd or 4th grade when I first discovered these, but till then I was still so young that I was still mostly playing with toys... That was till I discovered the world of video games! The way this happened was... Well it was when I was in Elementary School or so... You see, one of the things that the Principle of the School let kids do on Fridays, was get off School a bit early and one of the kids would bring in one of their Video Game Consoles (back then we are talking, Nintendo... Sega Genesis... etc...) And all of us kids got to play... Well in the end, this gave me the opportunity to dive in to the world of video games at a very young age... And I will say, that video games... As a kid growing up, gave me loads and loads of fun, I got introduced to some very awesome video games, such as: Final Fantasy (1987), Contra (1987) as well as, Space Harrier 2 (1988), as well as so much more!
A truly classic game, and was one of the ones that I am happy to say helped me to truly enjoy the world of video games when I was a kid!
Well... I hate to say it, but as time went on, I came to stop playing video games all together... Considering the fact that I developed a website that has to do with reviewing and blogging about video games that this might be a little odd... But it is true! You see, I happened to be in Colorado with my wife a few years ago visiting the inlaws, and her brother (who fancies himself a bit of a, 'gammer',) introduced me to the world of the, 'XBox 360'... And well to say the least, I was hooked like I was back in the late 80s through the 90s! Well when my wife and I got home, of course I wanted to get me an XBox 360... Couldn't do so at the time... (At the time, the XBox 360 was still a bit pricey...) The first system though I was able to dive in to was Microsoft's original, 'XBox' video game console, and the few games I was able to get my hands on when I bought the system and games from a friend of mine who was selling his!
The first, 'XBox' video game console that Microsoft released.
The XBox 360... A video game console that was released by Microsoft, and is one of two of probably the most prolific video game consoles to have come in the 21st century!
In the end, I was able to get my XBox 360... And I have not looked backs since! Now you might be wondering why I am writing this... Well if you are some one who has any doubt about the value of a kid's first video game system... Well let's put it this way, coming from a gammer of many years... Engaging in activities outside is important for everyone, no matter what age they are, and so... The reason that I write this, is that yes, it is a toy... But you never know... Some day your kids could do what I did, and turn their love of video games in to a worthwhile career!
When I first started Hellinspace... Like most people I imagine, that when they are starting up a new business, have the usual jitters that come with trying to start up their own business... But there is a side to starting up your business that most people generally tend to leave out, when talking about starting up their businesses... That being the fun stuff! What I mean... Well in my case, while trying to figure out how I was going to make my business profitable... Now many people do that in many different ways... If some one wants to start up their own law firm, these lawyers might find it something of a thrill when looking for their first cases, and for Doctor's opening up their own practice... Well they might get a strong sense of satisfaction when they begin truly designing their offices, (exam rooms and the like,) as well as looking for their first clients! Well for me, being that Hellinspace has, HellsDepot.com as a store that sells all sorts and kinds of goodies... (Or well at the time that I am writing this, HellsDepot is closed for renovations,) so besides the fact that building the store was a lot of fun, one of the things that I found that I really enjoyed, was finding the right kind of product for the store, and that is when I came across, 'Backer Cards'!
A TV Backer card for HBO's, 'True Blood'!
Now you might be wondering what these cards are, right? Well during the time when movie rental stores were still available (this was mostly before streaming, and red box,) one of the things that Blockbuster did, was they commissioned these high quality mini-posters that were printed most of the time on heavy card stock (or, well in a few cases that I could find, on metal...) The reason they did this is that when these TV shows (and they did this for all of the entertainment mediums that they had for rent at the time, including Movies and Video Games,) happen to be all out for rent at the time, they would put these cards out to let people know that they happen to be out of that particular item at the time.
A Video Game Backer Card for: Street Fighter X Tekken!
With the downfall of the movie rental industry these mini-posters (called backer cards,) have started becoming highly collectible items, that rather you are a Movie Memorabilia collector, Video Game Memorabilia collector, or TV Memorabilia collector, has generally found a place in this world! Now it is true, these pieces are still relatively new to the world of collectors, but if you happen to see them, you will be able to distinguish at least some of them by the fact that some of these will have, 'Blockbuster Delivers'... The truth is, is I have not seen this as of yet on to many TV or Movie Backer Cards, but I have seen them a lot on Video Game Backer Cards! The other way you can distinguish between them is the fact that a lot of people selling them online will let you know, either in the title of the listing, or in the description that these are not the Movie/Tv Show/Video Game. Anyway, if you already know about these, well I hope that I have given you a little bit more information that you can use... If you are now just discovering these, enjoy! For more information on Backer Cards, please click here:
In memory of the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, Hellinspace, will not be posting today.
September 11th 2001... A day that no one in America will ever forget... With that said, we here at Hellinspace will be taking a moment of silence to honor the memory of those that were lost on that day, and to honor the memory of those brave heroes that risked their lives at the crash sites by ending our posting for the day. We will be back tomorrow though.
