With Halloween just around the corner, if you are like me, well then there  are literally dozens of very proper ways to keep yourself properly entertained (especially if you are to old to go trick 'r treating...) You could watch a bunch of horror movies, or you could read a good horror novel (There are a lot of classics out there that I am sure will scare the hell out of you...) Or... You could stock up on some great horrific first person shooter video games!

And so... I thought that I would recommend a few classic and contemporary horrific first person shooter games that I thought that you guys might enjoy!

Five Classic, 'First Person Shooter' Computer Games Of The 90s That Rocked Before The Rest Of The World Caught On

On today's video game systems, people generally seem to thoroughly enjoy, 'first person shooter' video games... And why not? I mean these games rock, and as time goes on, with better graphics and more interactive game play. these games just generally seem to be getting better and better!

But before games like, 'Call Of Duty' came out, generally speaking, first person shooters generally tended to be left in the back row... Relegated to computer games and lesser console games, but I thought for those of you that may not remember these games, and for those of you  who are to young to have played these games when they were first popular... I thought that I would discuss what I believe are five defining first person shooter games that rocked before the rest of the world caught on:

At number 5: Heretic (1994).

At number 4: Wolfenstein 3D (1992).

At number 3: Doom (1993).

At number 2: Duke Nukem 3D (1996).

At number 1: Quake (1996).

There are a lot more out there, but for those of you out there who are like me, who truly enjoyed these games, before the rest of the world caught on to the awesomeness that is the first person shooter game... I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane... And if you have never played these games, give them a try... They are a blast!

Doom 2: Hell On Earth (1994) - Video Game Review

This one is a little bit different, but still as relevant and important as other, 'Video Game' reviews, this is going to be for a computer game... And for this, this review is going to be for the award winning early 90s classic computer game, 'Doom 2: Hell On Earth' (1994)!

For me this game was a total blast and had a little bit of history for me, you see, I didn't get to this game until I was in my late teens and happen to be going through a time period where I wasn't socially available ever... And so I got in to playing, 'Doom' (1993)... But of course seeing as how I didn't have to many video games in general, I beat it rather quickly, and went on to Doom 2: Hell On Earth (1994)... And I have to say that this game may actually be better then it's predecessor!

You see, this award wining game, which was developed by id Software, and followed on the heels of it's successful predecessor, this game tells the story of how after fighting through hell, the player has come back to Earth, only to find out that it has been over run by the minions of hell, and it will be up to you to save the remnants of humanity before Hell really makes, 'Hell On Earth'...

In the end, everything about this game is better, the graphics, the game play, the music, the speed, you name it!

In the end though, this game is just a great time, and if you get a chance, I recommend giving it a try, it is worth it!

Doom (1993) - Video Game Review

You know I remember the good ole days when Computer games were just on the verge of coming in to there own age of prominence, with such games as, 'Hexen: Beyond Heretic' (1995), 'Heretic' (1994), 'Duke Nukem' (1991), and just a whole bunch of other amazing shooter games!

But there was one that I remember just enjoying for hours on end, As a matter of fact this was the first Computer game I ever owned on the first computer I ever owned and that is, 'Doom' (1993)!

Developed by: Id Software & Nerve Software, this awesome classic told the story of a Space Marine who ends up fighting his way through hordes of Demons and what not from hell!

You know, in my opinion, this game was well before it's time, the reason being is that nowadays, the first person shooter motif platform is pretty standard in both Computer Games and Video Games, but the truth is, is that when this video game first came out, first person shooters were pretty uncommon.

And you know what? You could tell that this new mode of play was pretty rare, if anything by the style in which the game was created... I mean you could tell what the game was going for, and it was a total blast, and in all truth, I suspect that this game would help serve as the template for how alot of the first person shooters were modeled... The problem is, is that at this point, the game is still fun, but it is a dinosaur and looses some of nuances that made it great 21 years ago... And doesn't end up standing well against some of the modern first person shooter games.

In the end though, this game is worth trying if you are an enthusiast, or if you are looking for a fun walk down memory lane, other wise... It probably is worth skipping...
