Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993) - #VideoGame #Review

A brilliant game!
Ok so back in the early 1990s some of the biggest, 'B' level media characters were, 'Battletoads' and, 'Double Dragon'.

Now Double Dragon is still an excellent video game series, even though it has mostly disappeared, but back then, this game series was one of the first, 'fighter style' video games for the, 'Nintendo', and was so much fun, that a movie would eventually be made in to it!

And then there was the, 'Battletoads'... Now this series is gone... I hate to say it, but it is true... But this series is similar in basic concept to the, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' except that instead of being mutants from ooze... It is about a group of teens that can go back and forth between being, 'Toads' as well as being, 'humans'!

Now both of these series have individual video games that are a lot of fun... But they also have a video game together that totally rocks! Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993)!

Classic!
Developed by: Rare for the various consoles of the day, (including: Nintendo, Super-Nintendo, Game Boy and the Sega Genesis,) and was an amazing cross-over video game series between the two franchises!

And I have to say the individual video game series, this game rocks, it's fighting style is awesome, the FX are cool... The only two problems I have to say that really about the only things that I really don't like about this game... No story, and for some reason, the Graphics kind of really suck!
They don't really make these types of games anymore... It is a shame!
In the end though it is worth trying... Especially if you are a fan of the older video games.

Rock 'N Roll Racing (1993) - Video Game Review

A classic game, no matter what system you're playing it on!
Ok so here is an interesting one... You might say that this particular review is a first for me... What I mean by that is that this is the first time I have been in a position to write to different reviews for the same video games on two different systems!

Now before I go on, I should probably explain this... Well, simply put, (and this has been a pretty common practice amongst video game makers,) but essentially video game makers will have a tendency not to particularly favor any one particular video game system for the release of their latest video game... As a matter of fact, some video games will end up being released on several different video game systems!

And you know what, so far, every video game system that I have played Rock 'N Roll Racing (1993) on has rocked... And the Sega Genesis is definitely one of them!
Have fun racing your friends with the carnage that we all know and love!
I recently got to try out this game for the system and I have to say that this game truly was as much fun on the Sega Genesis as it was when I got to play it as a kid on the Super Nintendo! I mean don't get me wrong, technologically, this game is pretty ancient, but ancient is not always bad!

It still has it's generally easy as hell controls, a great story line, and some fun digitally created music that is based on some of classic rocks greatest hits! The only thing that I didn't like about this game is that the transfer rate between both Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo had pretty much only one fatal flaw...

The sound may have been good, but the sound in the Sega Genesis just was not as good... There was some distortion (but that seemed to be common with some of the games that were on multiple systems.)
The sound may not have been as good, but the game is still extremely well worth it!
Anyway, for you new gamers, I do think you will enjoy this game as much, but for you gamers growing up with this game, I think you are going to freaking love this walk down memory lane!

Rampage (1986) - Video Game Review

I know that today most people are familiar with XBox One, Playstation 4 and the lot, but when I was a kid it was all about owning the latest awesome video game for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System...) And you know what? There was a lot of them!

One of these games is actually believe it or not one of the first video games I ever played on any system... And this one... Believe it or up til recently I hadn't played since I was 4 years old! That game is, Rampage (1986) by Bally Midway (a.k.a. The former, 'Midway Games'!)

Rampage... A classic NES game that maybe as much fun on other systems, but for my money, the original will always be the best!
Now this game started off as an arcade game back in the mid 80s... For myself though, I only got to try it the one time when it was an arcade game, and the truth is, is that this game was pretty amazing in the arcade... (I would go so far as to say that this game's format for me... I think that, that was probably in the arcade!)

Anyway, basically this game's story tells of a group of humans (in the first one it is only two humans,) who end up being mutated in to giant King-Kong & Godzillaish style monsters, and the idea is that through the game you go through city after city in the United States destroying one after another until you have essentially made a full circle through out the country, and parts of Canada!

King-Kong anyone?
I have to say that smashing buildings to rubble is a ton of fun!

Ok, so that maybe the best part of the game... But there are some other good stuff in this game... I mean it is easy to control, and considering how long this game is, the music and graphics are pretty fun!

Now for the bad part... This game has about 128 levels... And where as about the first 50 levels or so are a ton of fun to play in a row... Much after that the game starts to get a little dull...

So if you are planning on going through the game from beginning to end, you might want to spend a few days or a week on this one... But if you do, you won't regret it!

Empire Seige (2015) - Video Game Review

A surprisingly addictive game!
You know as time goes on I have to admit that I am becoming more and more impressed with the types of games that are coming out on the mobile phone... I mean Marvel's, 'Contest Of Champions' is absolutely an amazing good time, and even Grepolis is completely addictive!

Well recently I have been looking for a new game to add to my mobile phone... You know... For while I am waiting for something to occur... And I recently found one that maybe one of my personal favorite games... Not just on the phone, but in general!

That game being: Empire Seige (2015)!

Trust me... It may sound corny, but it is a total blast!
Released by: Elex, this awesome game has you playing as the leader of your own ancient city/state empire, and what you want to do is grow your city and grow your resources, and use some of both to go to war with computers, as well as real players in an attempt to destroy their cities, or defend your own city from them!

Now you might be wondering why this game is so addicting... Well you know how most of the truly great strategy games require that you wait forever to go from one turn to the next? Well this one has a pretty quick counter for each move you make, which makes long term play so much more cool!

Anyway, if you haven't tried this game yet, do so... I doubt you will regret it!

Star Fox (1993) - Video Game Review

This game was truly revolutionary for it's time!
In a lot of ways, you could say that the, 'Super Nintendo' was a truly revolutionary product as far as video games go... I mean I suppose that the next generation video game systems, those video game systems that have, 'staying power', are pretty revolutionary...

Now eventually I will go more in-depth in to this, but for now, let me say this, ''The SNES' for what it was definitely was one of those video game systems that has allowed Nintendo to be one of the longest running (if not, 'THE' longest running) video game manufacturers of all time... But that is for another blog...

The reason that I mention what I mentioned above, is because there was a game, that, when it came out was a truly remarkable and... well... no pun intended, but was, 'a game changer' for the space fighter games of the tine... This game being: Star Fox (1993)!

A game that was truly ahead of it's time!
Developed by: Nintendo EAD, this game told the story of: Andross, a scientist, has fled to Planet Venom after being banished from Planet Corneria, and has now declared war on Corneria and unleashed an enormous army to wreak havoc on the Lylat system. General Pepper, the commanding officer of Corneria's defense force, has decided to dispatch a prototype high-performance fighter aircraft called the "Arwing." However, lacking in time to train pilots for the new fighters, he summons the elite mercenary team Star Fox to defeat Andross. Fox McCloud, the leader of the team, is accompanied by his teammates Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad!

Considering the similarity in content, and despite how much fun Sega's, 'Sonic: The Hedgehog' is... Star Fox definitely gave Sonic a run for his money!
In the end, this is one of the first, first person style space fighter games that I had ever played (what I mean is that up till this point, most space fighter based games that I had played generally tended to be 2D as opposed to 3D...)

Another cool thing is the fact that this game was one of the first games to employ, '3D Polygon Graphics,' which they were able to accomplish this due to the fact that this game was one of the first to utilize the SuperFX graphics acceleration coprocessor!

Another interesting fact is that this game was originally release in Japan for the Super-Fammicom (The Japanese version of the North American, 'Super Nintendo Entertainment System',) on February 21st, 1993, and would later be released for the Super Nintendo on March 26th, 1993 and then for Europe on June 3rd, 1993!

The box art for, 'Star Fox' on Japan's, 'Super Famicom'... The Japanese equivalent to North America's, 'Super Nintendo Entertainment System'!
Ultimately guys, I guess what I am tring to say, is this, if you like first person shooter games, or if you like space games, this game is a total blast... Admittedly it maybe a little hard to find, but if you can find it, then I highly recommend checking it out... It is more then well worth it!

Video Game Of The Month: Bionic Commando (2009)

Bionic Commando (2009)... The Video Game Of The Month For A Reason!
When I first got in to playing video games, the video game system that had been really popular had been the, 'NES'... (I know, practically the stone age compared to modern systems...)

Well, there was a lot of truly fun video games out there, rather you were an RPG fan, or a side  scrolling shoot 'em game fan (There wasn't really much in the way of first person shooter games then... with the obvious exception of, 'Duck Hunt'...)

Anyway, during that time, one of my favorite video games on the NES (and still is one of my favorite games of that era was,  Bionic Commando (1988)!

This game was so much fun... I am glad they made a sequel to it!
Well I recently discovered an updated version of this game, that as it turns out is a sequel to the classic NES game... That game being: Bionic Commando (2009)!

Now I do want to review this game eventually, so all I am gonna say, is this story is amazing, the graphics are kick ass, and the game play is easy enough... Ultimately it is just awesome!

For more information, check out this trailer for the game!

Marvel: Future Fight (2015) - Video Game Review

Not one of the more interesting Marvel video games...
I am sure that if you are like me, you are in to the whole (MCU: Marvel Cinematic Universe,) having found almost everything Marvel to fucking rule!

Now you got to understand that for me, it is rare when I find some piece of media that Marvel has created that I have taken a part of that I didn't truly freaking love! I have seen a large portion of the modern cartoons and movies as well as having enjoyed some of the pre-Iron Man 1 stuff as well as having read a ton of the comics also!

So when there is something that I don't like... I have to say that it is a little disappointing... But it hasn't been un-heard of...

And a great example of this is Marvel: Future Fight (2015)!

Black Widow and Iron Man are just two of the laundry list of Marvel heroes you can play as... They are also the easiest to become...
You see the game is a game that was developed by: Netmarble Games, and has you play as different characters from the Marvel Universe as you go through various levels in various stories... And each of these characters have the abilities that we have all grown up loving, and as you go through the level you get to grow your own team... Should be awesome right?

Well the truth is, is felt like the levels after awhile all kind of bled together... I found it dumb when you end up fighting a mirror character of the person that you are playing as... Also, unless you have money, getting new characters takes (FOR-FUCKING-EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Believe it or not... Iron Man & Black Widow are two of about 4 characters that the game allows you pretty easily to become...

But if you have the patience to go through all of this, then you might enjoy this game... And I will be honest and say that this game was fun... But in the end, it just got real dull for me pretty quick!

Street Fighter 2 - Turbo: Hyper Fighting (1992) - Video Game Review

I am going to say it... I am pleased with the fact that Capcom eventually gave up the whole, (Street Fighter 2) sub-genre of the classic competitive fighting series, but I will admit that I do rather miss it a fair amount as well!

I mean don't get me wrong, I am very much aware of the fact that all good things do have to end, and that there is only so many different ways you can make the same thing new and exciting... But for me, I grew up with this series, and this was the first stylized competitive fighting video game series that I had ever played!

And you know what? The first version of this game was awesome (please click here, for more information on the first game,) but the next game set the tone in my opinion for a fun, fast paced video game series that would entertain both boys and girls for years!

That game being: Street Fighter 2 - Turbo: Hyper Fighting (1992)!

A classic!

Yes... It is true that there is not a hell of a lot of difference between this game, and it's awesome predecessor, but the truth is, is if you are like me, then you are not a fan of the some times over the top slow nature of this video games immediate predecessor... And the fact that the game was sped up helped hugely!

Can you guess which one of these characters had a cameo in, 'Wreck-It Ralph'?
Another cool thing about this game is that there are some new awesome moves that did make it even more fun!

Finally... For me, the best part of what made this game great is that with all the changes that were made to this game, that it still maintained the same basic style and characters that made this series so awesome!

So, if you haven't tried it... Then do so, I do recommend it, if you get a chance!

Golden Eye: Rogue Agent (2004) Video Game Review

This guy may not have made it in MI6 but he is gonna kick some ass for the bad guys!
007... Those movies have been entertaining audiences all over the world for literally generations, with there non-stop thrills technology, and what not!

But it wasn't until the late 1990s that I was able to partake in a side of the series that I didn't know existed... That is the games that were based on the series!

And you know what? Golden Eye: Rogue Agent (2004) is one of the few games that I know of that is based on this series, but doesn't have much of Bond in it!

The box art for: Golden Eye: Rogue Agent (2004)!
Published by: Electronic Arts for the: PlayStation 2, XBox, Nintendo GameCube & Nintendo DS. This game told the story of a former MI6 spy known as "GoldenEye", who works for Auric Goldfinger against Dr. Julius No.

Protected or not... This guy is gonna kick all of their asses!
Now considering when this game was released, the graphics were pretty outstanding, (honestly though, they are still good, but I have seen better at this point...)

The effects though are still pretty excellent... The game is really hard, (which is always fun!)

The only problem though that I had with the game is that it didn't have the staying power to maintain being fun often and for long periods of time!

In the end though, it is worth trying out at least once!

Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013) - Video Game Review

Official Score = 3 Devils
Official Score = 3 Devils
Now I know that in both the Marvel & DC Universes, that  the concept of parallel has at least to some extent kind of become a standard bearer for some of the story lines, as a matter of fact, I have discovered that sometimes there are universe crossovers... As a matter of fact, there was a crossover that I saw in an episode of one of the Justice League cartoons that was extremely fun!

But for me, with a few exceptions, I have only recently begun diving in tot he world of the, 'Parallel Comic Book Crossover', but I have to say that I have found that I really like it!

A great example of this in video game format is: Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013)!

The box cover art for: Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Published by: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the: Playstation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, iOS & Android, Injustice: Gods Among Us, tells the story of how:

In an alternate reality, the Joker destroys Metropolis with a nuclear weapon, killing millions of people, after tricking Superman into killing Lois Lane and their unborn son.  Because of this, Superman looses it, and along with the former, 'Justice League', forms a new repressive world order...

After being transported over to this world, members of the Justice League will have to fight to stop the Deadly Superman and the new world order that he has imposed, before the deadly Superman can essentially conquer everything!

Cyborg Vs. Wonder Woman... I mean how cool is that!
Now this game is done in a fun competitive fighting style, so you could end up fighting as one character, and fighting the alternate universe counterpart... Also, beside the story mode, you can actual play in the more standard competitive mode as well...

I am going to say that the graphics for this game are also a lot of fun, as well as the effects... The one thing that I did like, but also didn't, was the fact that there were far to many videos... Well made, but it cut in to my playing time, and frankly, after awhile it kind of got on my nerves!

Dementium: The Ward (2007) Video Game Review

Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils
Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils
When I was younger, one of the video game console series that I had a lot of fun with was the first Game Boy...

It was cool because it was one of the first video game systems that was portable, but also had more then one video game that you could play on it! And with it's popularity, Nintendo was releasing a ton of the games that were on Nintendo for the Game Boy!

Well like things are known to happen, I ended up loosing my Game Boy in a move when I was a kid... And didn't get another portable system until Nintendo came out with its revolutionary, 'DS' series!

The cover art for: Dementium: The Ward (2007)
The cover art for: Dementium: The Ward (2007)

Now you might be wondering why I am mentioning this... Well there was a horror video game that I think you guys might enjoy on the Nintendo DS... That game being... Dementium: The Ward (2007)!

Developed by: Renegade Kid, this game told the story of a man, William Redmoor, who has an operation on his brain. The Doctor realized that the mind of William is in danger, so he made nightmare dreams where William must fight back to the end and get out of his dreams. As the Doctor calls it, this is the first phase. Throughout the game, the constant mention of a man who murdered his wife and daughter is brought up. It was believed by the staff that William was the murderer. A news report towards the end of the game says that a man was found standing over the dead body of his wife with a gun in his hand. After a brief struggle police shot and wounded the man. His daughter was found alive.

How would you like to wake up to that when you are in the Hospital?
How would you like to wake up to that when you are in the Hospital?0
The truth is, is the graphics were revolutionary, the effects were awesomely eery, and the story was fun... The only problem I had with the game is that on the Nintendo DS you still used the stylus, and it was hard to play a first person shooter with a stylus!

Give it a try though, I found it well worth it, and you might find it that way as well!

Mortal Kombat (1993) - Video Game Review

Official Score = 2 Devils
Official Score = 2 Devils
Mortal Kombat... Today, it seems like most people generally tend to know the game for it's 8 billion incarnations, and crossovers, as well as all the other forms, including Movies and TV series... And you know what? All that is all fine and good, but there is another thing that I remember this epic series... It's beginnings!

Now before Mortal Kombat became that game that seemed to be the game that other companies generally tended to crossover with, the first Mortal Kombat was a truly magnificent competitive fighting game to behold, especially when in the 1990s, competitive fighting video games were, what first-person shooter games are today!

Another thing that I thought that I would mention about this game, is that it became one of those games that would come to ultimately be a major competitor with the likes of, 'Street Fighter 2' or, 'Tekken'... Or even to a lesser extent, 'Virtua Fighter'...

That is why I was surprised at how rough the, 'Sega Genesis' version of this game truly was!

No where near as good as the Super Nintendo version...
Confused yet? Well here is the thing about the Genesis version, the graphics and what not were not as good on the Genesis version, (definitely better on the Super Nintendo version,) another thing that I hate to say it, but was better on the Super Nintendo version of this game, was the controls were more manageable...

Now I will say this, the Genesis version of this game is not all bad... I mean it does have a better blood and gut count... And frankly another thing about this game that all the versions of this game have in their favor, is that this game is the first, and so you may not have gotten the opportunity to play as all of the characters... But that didn't matter then, and if you are a true fan, it should not matter now!

Remember this classic move that, 'Liu Kang' had become famous for?
Anyway, this version of the game may not be the best in the world, but the, 'Sega Genesis' version of, 'Mortal Kombat', is definitely a game that all fans should try at least once!
