Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993) - #VideoGame #Review

A brilliant game!

Ok so back in the early 1990s some of the biggest, 'B' level media characters were, 'Battletoads' and, 'Double Dragon'.

Now Double Dragon is still an excellent video game series, even though it has mostly disappeared, but back then, this game series was one of the first, 'fighter style' video games for the, 'Nintendo', and was so much fun, that a movie would eventually be made in to it!

And then there was the, 'Battletoads'... Now this series is gone... I hate to say it, but it is true... But this series is similar in basic concept to the, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' except that instead of being mutants from ooze... It is about a group of teens that can go back and forth between being, 'Toads' as well as being, 'humans'!

Now both of these series have individual video games that are a lot of fun... But they also have a video game together that totally rocks! Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993)!

Classic!

Developed by: Rare for the various consoles of the day, (including: Nintendo, Super-Nintendo, Game Boy and the Sega Genesis,) and was an amazing cross-over video game series between the two franchises!

And I have to say the individual video game series, this game rocks, it's fighting style is awesome, the FX are cool... The only two problems I have to say that really about the only things that I really don't like about this game... No story, and for some reason, the Graphics kind of really suck!

They don't really make these types of games anymore... It is a shame!

In the end though it is worth trying... Especially if you are a fan of the older video games.

Sonic The Hedgehog: A Legacy Of Brilliance From A Failed System - #VideoGame #Blog

Sonic maybe running around in different video game consoles, but that wasn't always the case...

These days, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' is known for the video games that have been done for such systems as, 'Playstation', or, 'Nintendo Wii', but before Sonic became mostly a secondary character on various cross-platform systems,  Sonic brought to prominence the, 'Sega Genesis', in the same way that, 'Mario' brought to prominence the, 'Nintendo'!

And speaking of that... 

Ok, so not only did Sonic help bring the, 'Sega Genesis' to prominence, but one of the other things that it did was to make Sega dominate the video game market from the early 1990s, really up to when Sony released the, 'Playstation', and Microsoft brought to the world, the, 'X-Box'! 

The Sega Genesis was so popular in the 1990s, that it gave, 'Nintendo' a run for it's money!

And yet another thing that Sonic really did kind of help do very well, was to do with merchandising and cartoons for the 90s, what Mario did for the 1980s! 

Now to speak about the series... Ok, so the fact is, is I have connected Sonic and Mario very close together, and the truth is, is that, 'Yes' they have some connection, but the truth is, is they are two very different video games and let me explain what I mean by this: 

1. Sonic is an animal in a world that has mostly animals in it. Mario is a human that was transported to a world with his brother that is sort of a mix of both humans and various animals. 

2. In the Mario games, the big bad is a dinosaur, while in Sonic The Hedgehog, the big bad is a human. 

3. In most of the Mario games, Mario and Luigi are trying to save a, 'Princess' and Sonic and Tails are trying to save the Animal populace of his world. 

Sonic & Mario have their similarities and differences, but in the end, one of the main things that they both did is to bring to prominence their respective video game systems they started off with, and the companies they came from!

Now as far as the franchise itself goes, Sonic The Hedgehog... The best things about this franchise, is that in no matter what platform the current, 'Sonic' game is under, the characters are always kid friendly, and the games are always fun for all ages... And the truth... Sega may have failed in it's video game system design, but the truth is, is Sonic will always translate to the next generation! 

Rock 'N Roll Racing (1993) - Video Game Review

A classic game, no matter what system you're playing it on! 

Ok so here is an interesting one... You might say that this particular review is a first for me... What I mean by that is that this is the first time I have been in a position to write to different reviews for the same video games on two different systems! 

Now before I go on, I should probably explain this... Well, simply put, (and this has been a pretty common practice amongst video game makers,) but essentially video game makers will have a tendency not to particularly favor any one particular video game system for the release of their latest video game... As a matter of fact, some video games will end up being released on several different video game systems! 

And you know what, so far, every video game system that I have played Rock 'N Roll Racing (1993) on has rocked... And the Sega Genesis is definitely one of them!

Have fun racing your friends with the carnage that we all know and love!

I recently got to try out this game for the system and I have to say that this game truly was as much fun on the Sega Genesis as it was when I got to play it as a kid on the Super Nintendo! I mean don't get me wrong, technologically, this game is pretty ancient, but ancient is not always bad! 

It still has it's generally easy as hell controls, a great story line,and some fun digitally created music that is based on some of classic rocks greatest hits! The only thing that I didn't like about this game is that the transfer rate between both Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo had pretty much only one fatal flaw... 

The sound may have been good, but the sound in the Sega Genesis just was not as good... There was some distortion (but that seemed to be common with some of the games that were on multiple systems.)

The sound may not have been as good, but the game is still extremely well worth it!

Anyway, for you new gamers, I do think you will enjoy this game as much, but for you gamers growing up with this game, I think you are going to freaking love this walk down memory lane!

Earthworm Jim And The Battletoads: A Couple Of Forgotten Heroes Of TheWorld Of Video Games

We all know about the modern heroes of the world of video games, I mean who doesn't know of, 'Master Chief' from Microsoft's popular, 'Halo' video game series... And if you are a little bit older, I am sure you guys will remember, 'Sonic the Hedgehog' from the famous Sega series,  or, ' Mario' from Nintendo's legendary, 'Super Mario Bros.' franchise... (All though I will admit that Mario is as much a modern day hero as any of the rest of them!)

But I thought that I would go back through the decades here and I thought it would be fun to talk about two in particular that I personally, I think you will agree, should be brought back to prominence!

Let's get started!

At number 1: Earthworm Jim

Earthworm Jim, now here is a game that has been ported from just about all the great video game systems of the last 20 years or so, and has been also on Computer as a Computer game!

At number 2: The Battletoads... A popular set of heroes that had games on just about all of the famous video game systems of the era (Nintendo/Famicom, the Amiga, The Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Game Gear, and that is just to name a few!)

There are a ton more, these two in particular I decided to mention because... I mean lets be honest here, they are pretty awesome, and almost completely forgotten!

Mortal Kombat (1993) - Video Game Review

Mortal Kombat... Today, it seems like most people generally tend to know the game for it's 8 billion incarnations, and crossovers, as well as all the other forms, including Movies and TV series... And you know what? All that is all fine and good, but there is another thing that I remember this epic series... It's beginnings!

Now before Mortal Kombat became that game that seemed to be the game that other companies generally tended to crossover with, the first Mortal Kombat was a truly magnificent competitive fighting game to behold, especially when in the 1990s, competitive fighting video games were, what first-person shooter games are today!

Another thing that I thought that I would mention about this game, is that it became one of those games that would come to ultimately be a major competitor with the likes of, 'Street Fighter 2' or, 'Tekken'... Or even to a lesser extent, 'Virtua Fighter'...

That is why I was surprised at how rough the, 'Sega Genesis' version of this game truly was!

No where near as good as the Super Nintendo version...

 Confused yet? Well here is the thing about the Genesis version, the graphics and what not were not as good on the Genesis version, (definitely better on the Super Nintendo version,) another thing that I hate to say it, but was better on the Super Nintendo version of this game, was the controls were more manageable...

Now I will say this, the Genesis version of this game is not all bad... I mean it does have a better blood and gut count... And frankly another thing about this game that all the versions of this game have in their favor, is that this game is the first, and so you may not have gotten the opportunity to play as all of the characters... But that didn't matter then, and if you are a true fan, it should not matter now!

 Remember this classic move that, 'Liu Kang' had become famous for?

Anyway, this version of the game may not be the best in the world, but the, 'Sega Genesis' version of, 'Mortal Kombat', is definitely a game that all fans should try at least once!

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (1994) - Video Game Review

You know I will be honest and say that I was pretty sad to see the downfall of Sega's console systems, I mean I can remember a lot of years of playing games on systems like the, 'Sega Genesis' or the, 'Sega Saturn'... And so much more, and one of the games that I found that I really enjoyed is the, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' video game series, I mean you could just about basically say that Sonic was Sega's answer to, 'Mario'!

And so I thought it might be fun to talk a little bit about: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994)!

Not one of the better games in the series!

Published by: Sega, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 told the story of how after Sonic defeats Dr. Robotnik at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, his space station, the Death Egg, crash-lands on a mystical floating landmass called Angel Island (or simply "the Floating Island" as it's called in the game manual). As Dr. Robotnik begins to repair the damaged station, he meets up with Knuckles the Echidna, the last surviving member of an ancient civilization of Echidnas that once inhabited the island. He is also the guardian of the Master Emerald, which grants the island its levitation powers.

Knowing Sonic and Tails will try to track him down, and realizing he can use the Master Emerald to power the ship, Dr. Robotnik dupes Knuckles into believing Sonic is trying to steal his Emerald. Shortly after, Sonic and Tails in their biplane, the Tornado, are in search of Dr. Robotnik. Sonic, possessing the emeralds from the events of Sonic 2, then turns into Super Sonic. As soon as they arrive, Knuckles ambushes Sonic from underground and knocks the Chaos Emeralds from him, returning him to normal. Knuckles steals the Emeralds and disappears inland. As Sonic and Tails travel through the levels, they encounter Knuckles in almost every level, hindering their progress.

Now you might be wondering what makes this awesome video game that was made for the Sega Genesis so great... I mean after so many games running and jumping just seem pretty customary right? Well simply put, this game was supposed to come out at the same time as Sonic & Knuckle (don't worry, that review is coming,) but due to finance issues, this game was released first, and introduced to the world, 'Knuckles'!

In the end, this game is fun, short of Knuckles showing up though, this game is not a very original one, and the graphics...

Anyway, this game is worth trying out if you haven't had the chance... And if this is your first Sonic game... Well I suspect that you will have some fun with it... Otherwise... Don't expect to much more then what you got in other Sonic games... And not much else!

Discovering The World Of Video Gamming And Their Consoles For The FirstTime... Again

Contra... A particularly violent game... Definitely one that boys enjoyed back in the day!

When I was a kid, one of the things that I discovered at a very young age (as a matter of fact, I think I may have been in either 3rd or 4th grade when I first discovered these, but till then I was still so young that I was still mostly playing with toys... That was till I discovered the world of video games!

The way this happened was... Well it was when I was in Elementary School or so... You see, one of the things that the Principle of the School let kids do on Fridays, was get off School a bit early and one of the kids would bring in one of their Video Game Consoles (back then we are talking, Nintendo... Sega Genesis... etc...) And all of us kids got to play...

Well in the end, this gave me the opportunity to dive in to the world of video games at a very young age... And I will say, that video games...  As a kid growing up, gave me loads and loads of fun, I got introduced to some very awesome video games, such as: Final Fantasy (1987), Contra (1987) as well as, Space Harrier 2 (1988), as well as so much more!

A truly classic game, and was one of the ones that I am happy to say helped me to truly enjoy the world of video games when I was a kid!

 Well... I hate to say it, but as time went on, I came to stop playing video games all together... Considering the fact that I developed a website that has to do with reviewing and blogging about video games that this might be a little odd... But it is true!

You see, I happened to be in Colorado with my wife a few years ago visiting the inlaws, and her brother (who fancies himself a bit of a, 'gammer',) introduced me to the world of the, 'XBox 360'... And well to say the least, I was hooked like I was back in the late 80s through the 90s!

Well when my wife and I got home, of course I wanted to get me an XBox 360... Couldn't do so at the time... (At the time, the XBox 360 was still a bit pricey...) The first system though I was able to dive in to was Microsoft's original, 'XBox' video game console, and the few games I was able to get my hands on when I bought the system and games from a friend of mine who was selling his!

 The XBox 360... A video game console that was released by Microsoft, and is one of two of probably the most prolific video game consoles to have come in the 21st century!

In the end, I was able to get my XBox 360... And I have not looked backs since!

Now you might be wondering why I am writing this... Well if you are some one who has any doubt about the value of a kid's first video game system... Well let's put it this way, coming from a gammer of many years... Engaging in activities outside is important for everyone, no matter what age they are, and so... The reason that I write this, is that yes, it is a toy... But you never know... Some day your kids could do what I did, and turn their love of video games in to a worthwhile career!

Altered Beast (1988) - Video Game Review

I don't remember all of them, and to be honest with you, I have not bought all of the video game systems that are out there, but one of the things that video game companies have done since pretty much at the very least the, 'NES', is that video game companies have been adding in a game or 2 to the system itself when you buy it as incentive to keep people motivated when they buy their systems...

A couple of examples of this are:

1. The XBox 360 package that I got came with Halo Reach and Fable 3.

2. For the NES, it was (at least for a while anyway,) 'Super Mario Bros.'

Well for the Sega Genesis I heard that at least at one point that Sega was offering, 'Altered Beast' (1988) as part of their package!

A game definitely worth trying!

Initially developed and produced by: Sega and released as an Aracade game, this game told the story of a Greek Centurion who was resurrected by Zeus in an effort so that the centurion could rescue his daughter, 'Athena' from a demon god by the name of, 'Neff', who lives in the, 'Underworld'...

A fun Arcade/Home Console game that is worth playing!

This game was released during the days of the popular, 'side scrolling' fighting games that were still extremely popular, but this one I remember had a little bit of a twist with it... You see, in this game the character is given the ability to become various beasts when you got, 'power-ups'...

Also the basic graphics of the game could be said to be the direct ancestor of the type of graphics in video games that we see today... What I mean by that is the fact that where as older games... Being graphically fun, still had the strongly pixelated look that was the standard for a lot of the video games of the 1980s... In Altered Beast, it was significantly less pixelated, and starting to seriously come together...

Ultimately this game is not hard to figure out, and it is fun, if you have a chance to play it, I would say give it a try, it is well worth it, and you might find that to be the case as well... I know I did!

The First Home Video Game System... wracked With Controversy

The Magnavox Odyssey... The video game system that started the revolution!

We all know video game systems like, 'The XBox One' or, 'The Playstation 4', but before that, and even before such classics as, 'The Sega Genesis', or the, 'Super Nintendo', or even before, 'The Atari 2600', or 'Commodore 64', there was a video game system that could be said to be either directly or indirectly the mother of every thing we as gamer's treasure in our current video game systems!

What I mean by this, is that the first home video game console, a video game console, which was released back in 1972, and which sold 100,000 games in it's first year was Magnavox's 'Odyssey'!

A blast from the past right... I mean when was the last time you bought something that had that label?

Two people playing one of the oldest video games ever made for a home console!

But the truth is, is that like every great innovation, there are others that will quickly come out with their own versions of it, trying to make it better...

Well the truth is, is rather it is right or wrong to do that, for everything to go ahead, we always need to be putting out better product right... Well with Magnavox being the first to make it in to the home video game market, they had competition almost immediately!

What I mean by this is that Magnavox started protecting what was theirs when they sued Atari for patent infringement, when Atari released, 'Pong' as it looked extremely similar to Magnavox's, 'Tennis' game...

The Odyssey's 'Tennis', and the Atari 2600's 'Pong'... 2 very similar games that caused some friction at the dawn of the home console games!

Well ultimately, they settled out of court, but in the following years they would end up suing other big name companies such as: Mattel, Coleco, Seeburg & Activision... They would either win or settle these cases!

Ultimately, 'The Odyssey' line would continue to come out with fresh consoles until 1978, when, 'The Odyssey 2' was released... Now apparently this was the first of it's type to be a fully programmable system... Since then, in 1997, an emulator was created for the Odyssey 2...

This system may have ended up having a little bit of a checkered past... But you can't beat the first of it's kind, and the generations of boy and girls that have been entertained because that system will continue on for generations to come!

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (1992) - Video Game Review

You know, there is a reason why certain video games become the 'flagship' video game of the company that the system comes from... Is it because of the graphics? No... (I mean lets be honest, no one can claim that the first Super Mario Bros. had great graphics (even by the standard when the video game first came out... But still the game was freaking awesome!) Is it because of (ease-of-game-play?) No... (Let's be honest here and say that  XBox's flagship game, 'Halo' is a hard game to learn to play if you aren't used to it... Yet the game still kicked some massive ass!) Is it because of the music/sound effects? No... Although I will admit that universally the sound effects and music for the flagship games that I have played are pretty awesome!

No, in this case I believe that what makes a video game a, 'flagship' game is not just how awesome, but how universally it is accepted as being one of the better video games to have come out from that company during it's run!

Now I have mentioned the flagship games for, 'Nintendo' and, 'Microsoft', but there is a game that is still the flagship of it's company (even though the company no longer makes systems...) That is Sonic The Hedgehog!

Now this game is freaking awesome... I mean it definitely ran on the heels of the success of Nintendo's 'Super Mario Bros.'... But in and of itself, it is a blast! Well I won't bore you with the details from that game, 'Click here:' if you want to read more on that game...

In this case I wanted to talk about, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (1992)!

This game, which was also released for the Sega Genesis, told of the continuing story of, 'Sonic' and his war to stop Doctor Robotnik from turning his home in to a cyborg haven!

One thing that I thought should be mentioned here is the fact that this game, which maintained just about all of the elements of what made the first one great, also melded it with brand new levels, and some brand new bad guys, but where as, 'Mario' had, 'Luigi', Sonic would also get his own partner when they introduced, 'Tails' in tot he mix!

In the end this game is a blast... The only problem that I had with this one, is that like it's predecessor, it doesn't have that, (I have to play it over and over again appeal to it that I find to be one of the better aspects to video games!

Regardless though, this game is fun, and if you get a chance to try it, do so, I liked it, and you might like it as well!

Yesterdays Video Games Become Tomorrows Mobile Phone Games

You know when I was a kid, the main video game system had been the, Nintendo Entertainment System... It was sleek, it was beautiful... And for the most part it was still pretty new technology, (when I got to start playing video games, the, 'Nintendo' had only been around for a few years!)

Well as time went on and the, era of the 'NES' turned in to the era of the future of video gaming with such systems as the, 'Super NES' & the, 'Sega Genesis' and their successor systems started to take over these previous generations of systems, it started to become harder and harder for people like myself, who still really enjoy games like, 'The Legend Of Zelda', or 'Super Mario Bros,' or other such now ancient games to find them and the systems that had once been extremely popular!

Well with the advent of the the, 'Smart Phone' I have come to discover something extremely interesting... I came to discover that some of these ancient games are being brought back to life on the mobile phone, in their original format!

Now you might be wondering why this is so cool... Well the truth is, is that as the generations go by, there are lesser and lesser NES and other ancient video game systems to play them on... And it would appear that with the exception of, 'Mega Man' that for some reason that a lot of video game makers are instead of keeping the classics alive and well seem to be making the same mistake that a lot of movie studios seem to be doing, and that is, remaking the original video games!

A good example of this is the video game, 'Contra'...

Contra, in my opinion, this game was not just a game that helped keep the, 'Nintendo' popular through the 80s and the early 90s, (when the Super Nintendo would replace the system.) In the case of this game, This game you could almost say is not just a video game that helped to make 2D shooters what  they would be for the rest of their run, but I believe is something that helped make the first person shooter what it is today!

I recently discovered that there is a remade version of this game that came out for the XBox... So of course I got really excited about it and immediately picked it up... You know what? I hate to say it, but the game was freaking horrible! I mean besides the fact that the game's controls are absolutely despicable, the graphics were changed just enough to be a tease... (basically they changed just enough of it so that it looked different from the original, but not so different that you couldn't tell that you were playing a  bad 2D game!)

So if you have a smart phone, and are like me, and love ancient games, then give them a try on your phone, you might like it!

RoboCop Vs. Terminator (1993) - Video Game Review

You know I will say that crossovers in my opinion have always been a blast no matter what the format, rather it is, 'Star Trek & The X-Men', (which had been done in a novel) or even, 'Aliens & Predators', (Which there is an entire movie series that is based on this very concept!)

But there is one that I never thought would come out... Although I will be honest and say that the concept always seemed really cool! That is, 'RoboCop Vs. Terminator (1993)!

This game having been published by Virgin Games, originally for the, 'Sega Genesis', would later be released on the, ' Game Gear', 'Sega Master System', 'SNES', 'NES' & 'Game Boy'.

Now this game... (Which since I have only played the SNES format, I am going to use that story), tells of how in the future, 'John Connor' discovers the fact that, 'Skynet' (the Artifical Intelligence that is responsible for destroying the world in the future), has as part of it's construction some of the technology that had been used to build, 'RoboCop'...

So in the end, John Connor sends a soldier back in time to destroy RoboCop, but before RoboCop can be destroyed, he will have to face Terminators, OCP and other such barriers not just to his freedom, but to his very survival!

In the end, this game was fun, but not overly memorable... I do remember the controls seemed to be pretty easy to master, and the story is always fun... If you get a chance to give it a try, I do recommend it... Just remember that it is dated, so don't expect some new level of enjoyment!

Sonic: The Hedgehog (1991) - Video Game Review

I have to admit that I was pretty sad to see Sega stop making consoles, I mean for decades their consoles were truly a total blast, and a lot of the video games for those systems were a lot of fun!

The one that I particularly enjoyed was the, 'Sega Masters System'... Or, 'Sega Genesis' in the United States... This may not have been the first of their video game systems that I have ever played, but it is for me, (probably more so then any other video game system out there to date), is one of the most memorable video game systems that I have ever played!

I mean besides the fact that I had a lot of fun playing video games on this system with my friends, I also found that I really enjoyed playing the video games on this system! Rather it be, 'Golden Axe' (1989), 'Space Harrier 2' (1988) or heck even, 'Sonic: The Hedgehog' (1991)!

Developed by the, 'Sonic Team' for the original Sega Genesis, and first released in 1991, this amazing game told the story of how in his attempt to steal 6 chaos emeralds, Dr. Robotnik has imprisoned a lot of the inhabitants of South Island in to various prisons and cybernetic shells, and it will be up to the player (who plays as, 'Sonic') to stop Dr. Robotnik before his devious plan can be put in to motion!

In the end, this game's gameplay is very similar to the original, 'Super Mario Bros.' and thus is really easy to play... And the graphics are great, the music is fun... In my opinion, the true test of a great video game is its capacity for long term play either in a single day or repetitively over several days... And for me, the main problem with this game, is that it doesn't have that.

In the end though, if you haven't tried it yet, then I would recommend doing so, it is worth it!

5 Great Soundtracks From 5 Classic Video Games From 5 Classic Video Game Consoles

It is an unfortunate stereotype that most of the time people associate older video game music with computer generated sounds that didn't have any vision or originality to it... This couldn't be further from the truth! As a matter of fact I would say that these unsung geniuses actually deserve a lot of credit for assembling some truly amazing music for people to enjoy while playing their video games!

I learned this one day, when I was writing a guest blog and I happened to stumble on to the original, 'Contra' soundtrack from the original NES video game from the 1980s! Strider (1989) - Video Game Review

When I was a kid there was a friend of mine who had a ton of now ancient classic NES games, and when I got a Nintendo, he lent me most of these games... Alot of these games were a lot of fun... But there was about a handful of video games that were truly remarkable, and to this day I still remember how fun these games were!

Well one of these games happened to be, 'Strider' (1989)!

This action packed game was just a total blast, and the further you got in to the game, the further you would want to play (as a matter of fact I would say that this was one of those games that could rack up a huge power bill, in that this game is one that you would want to keep on if you couldn't play any longer that day!)

Well when the Sega Genesis came out, I was looking for this game on NES... As luck would have it, 'Capcom' publish it'sversion of this game which I would later discover on the Sega Genesis... But as it turns out, this game would be released on multiple platforms, starting with the, 'Amiga' console, and going on through an arcade version of this game, as well as the, 'Atari ST', 'Commodore 64', 'DOS, (A now defunct operating system that PC's ran off of before Windows) & later, 'The Sega Mega Drive', 'Sharp X68000', 'Turbo Grafx CD', 'Virtual Console', 'Wii' & 'ZX Spectrum'.

This game tells the story of how in a dystopic future, a dictator by the name of, 'The Grandmaster', has a stranglehold over the world... The only hope is a group of high-tech Ninja's that call themselves, 'Striders'...And particular Strider by the name of, 'Hiryu', who has been tasked with assassinating, 'The Grandmaster'!

This game had an appropriate level of hardness that I found that I really liked... But what made it a little bit easier is that for the most part the game play on this game was not particularly hard...

I did find the music was pretty decent, but what I found to be the best was the bosses... in the 80s and early 90s, most bad guys ended up being these over the top monsters, and the people who designed this game really did a good job at making them difficult to beat!

There is one thing though that I have to admit that I was not a particular fan of, and that is there appears to be a defect in the game itself in which the game slows down at certain intervals, so much so that it can be really annoying and distracting (because not only did the game do that but the music would as well, and you couldn't play during this period!)

Despite this, this game is an awful lot of fun, and well worth it to play, and if you get a chance, I highly recommend checking it out... The defect is annoying, but in the end, this game is worth giving a try!

Space Harrier 2 (1988) - Video Game Review

When I first got in to Video Games, the main system that everyone that I knew, that would play video games on, was on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and well as the late 80s turned in to the early 90s and the technology that made the, 'Nintendo' became old and time to be replaced, they replaced it with the video game system, the, 'Super Nintendo Entertainment System' or, 'SNES'... And that is when things started to get interesting...

What I mean by that is the fact that during this time, Sega would go on to release a system that would not only rival the SNES, but would continue to do so through out most of the 1990s, and that system of course would be the, 'Sega Genesis'!

Now for me, I first got in to this system, like all video game systems that I played at the time, when I played it at a friends house! And you know what? One of the first games that I would go on to play when I was a kid... A game that is still to this day one of my favorite games of all time is, 'Space Harrier 2' (1988)!

Originally developed by: Sega-AM2 and published for the Sega Genesis, this video game told of the year 6236, in which our hero, (Harrier), ends up getting a distress signal light years away from his current position, once he gets there, it looks like he is going to have to go on another one man war against an entire army to defeat the forces of evil that have overrun that area!

The truth is, is this game may seem extremely easy, but it isn't, you see essentially you are constantly moving forward killing enemies and dodging objects... And trust me when I say that it may sound easy... But it isn't... The truth is, is it is extremely difficult... But in the end, what does help is the fact that this games controls are pretty easy to get used to!

In the end, this game was the first that I ever played on the Sega Genesis, and in the end, it is still in my top 10 favorite video games of all time, and if you give it a chance I think you guys might like it as well!

Dr. Wiley Vs. Dr. Robotnik: Who's Better?

In this next phase in the, 'Who's Better' series, I thought that I would expand beyond movies, and start off the new phase of this with doing 2 classic video game characters from a couple of video game series of yore, and that is, 'Dr. WIley' from the, 'Mega Man' series and, 'Dr. Robotnik' from the, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' series...

Now you might be wondering why I am mentioning these 2 villains... I mean after all Dr. Robotnik and Dr. Wiley are both from 2 different series that have mostly to do with 2 different heroes (one being a robot, and the other being a hedgehog)... Well simply put, they both have to do with evil mad scientists that create robots in an effort to try to take over their respective worlds! For Dr. Wiley, he just builds straight robots, and Dr. Robotnik has captured Sonic's friends and defends the capsules that he has captured them in using robots!

Now for what is great about Dr. Wiley:

1. I have to admit that the Robots that he builds are pretty cool!

2. I also have to admit that I do like that the look as being more like an animated human then an actual robot is pretty cool as well!

3, I also like the overall story line of how Dr. Wiley became the mad scientist that he is!

The bad parts about Dr. Wiley:

1. Primarily the fact that despite the fact the robots that he obviously creates, and the bosses that you play are from him, the only problem when you play him as the final boss at the end of most of the games, just is not as cool as the bosses that you play before hand!

Now as for the good things about Dr. Robotnik:

1. You know the levels that you play in Sonic the Hedgehog you would assume the bad guys that you fight you would assume are the same robots that are being sent by Dr. Robotnik, and those are usually pretty fun!

2. Robotnik himself is usually a fun bad guy to do battle with at the end of the game!

As for the bad side of Dr. Robotnik:

1. Oddly enough, the characters in Sonic The Hedgehog are pretty well created... Except for Dr. Robotnik...

2. And as for the bosses at the end of each level, they just aren't as much fun!

In the end, you would have to make up your own mind, but for me I have to admit that my favorite is Dr.Wiley!
