Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993) - #VideoGame #Review

A brilliant game!
Ok so back in the early 1990s some of the biggest, 'B' level media characters were, 'Battletoads' and, 'Double Dragon'.

Now Double Dragon is still an excellent video game series, even though it has mostly disappeared, but back then, this game series was one of the first, 'fighter style' video games for the, 'Nintendo', and was so much fun, that a movie would eventually be made in to it!

And then there was the, 'Battletoads'... Now this series is gone... I hate to say it, but it is true... But this series is similar in basic concept to the, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' except that instead of being mutants from ooze... It is about a group of teens that can go back and forth between being, 'Toads' as well as being, 'humans'!

Now both of these series have individual video games that are a lot of fun... But they also have a video game together that totally rocks! Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993)!

Classic!
Developed by: Rare for the various consoles of the day, (including: Nintendo, Super-Nintendo, Game Boy and the Sega Genesis,) and was an amazing cross-over video game series between the two franchises!

And I have to say the individual video game series, this game rocks, it's fighting style is awesome, the FX are cool... The only two problems I have to say that really about the only things that I really don't like about this game... No story, and for some reason, the Graphics kind of really suck!
They don't really make these types of games anymore... It is a shame!
In the end though it is worth trying... Especially if you are a fan of the older video games.

Earthworm Jim And The Battletoads: A Couple Of Forgotten Heroes Of TheWorld Of Video Games

We all know about the modern heroes of the world of video games, I mean who doesn't know of, 'Master Chief' from Microsoft's popular, 'Halo' video game series... And if you are a little bit older, I am sure you guys will remember, 'Sonic the Hedgehog' from the famous Sega series,  or, ' Mario' from Nintendo's legendary, 'Super Mario Bros.' franchise... (All though I will admit that Mario is as much a modern day hero as any of the rest of them!)

But I thought that I would go back through the decades here and I thought it would be fun to talk about two in particular that I personally, I think you will agree, should be brought back to prominence!

Let's get started!

At number 1: Earthworm Jim

Earthworm Jim, now here is a game that has been ported from just about all the great video game systems of the last 20 years or so, and has been also on Computer as a Computer game!

At number 2: The Battletoads... A popular set of heroes that had games on just about all of the famous video game systems of the era (Nintendo/Famicom, the Amiga, The Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Game Gear, and that is just to name a few!)

There are a ton more, these two in particular I decided to mention because... I mean lets be honest here, they are pretty awesome, and almost completely forgotten!

Please Bring Battletoads To The Big Screen

These Toads ruled on the small screen and would on the.big.screen as well!
These Toads ruled on the small screen and would on the.big.screen as well!
You know there has been a lot of video games over the years that have been made in to some pretty fun movies... And well, there have also been some pretty lousy movies that have been made from video games as well, but with this series of blogs talking about certain Video Games, or Cartoons or what have you, that should finally be turned in to a movie, I am hopping to bring awareness to filmmakers eventually about the pluses of finally making these movies!

And for my latest one, I wanted to talk about, 'Battletoads'... A classic series that should have been brought to the big screen!

Now for  those of you that don't know what Battletoads are, they started off initially as a cartoon about a group of kick-ass Toads that can also fight crime... as well turn back in to their alter ego (three School aged kids!)

By day, a bunch of children, by night crime fighting Toads!
By day, a bunch of children, by night crime fighting Toads!
Now since then, this cartoon has been turned in to at least a couple of freaking awesome video games, as well as other forms of media!

As for the reason that I think you the filmmaker should finally make this movie, is because this series enjoyed a lot of popularity when it first came out, it almost certainly would again... And for the studios... Well let's be honest, the more popular the movie is, the more money you are going to make!

So in the end I must ask, 'Please Bring Battletoads To The Big Screen'!

But don't take it from me, check out these  videos that represent a small piece of the Battletoads package!

Battletoads (1991) - Video Game Review

Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils
Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils
In the late 80s through out the early 90s, Hollywood, rather it be in movies, or in TV series were experimenting with different concepts behind a, 'mutant'... Now in some cases, this was the more mundane form... (You know, using Toxic waste to mutate a bad guy, which will ultimately kill him... As was the case in, RoboCop 2,)

But there was another side of it that had it where a group of mutated animals are turned in to a group of crime fighters... As is the case with the, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'... A show, that would later be turned in to a movie, as well as other forms of media...

Well during this hype, there was another cartoon that became rather famous, that was created as competition for the, 'Ninja Turtles', and that being the hardcore, 'Battletoads'...

Now these Toads may not be as popular as their Turtle counterparts, but one thing they did produce besides a fun cartoon was an equally fun video game in 1991 for the NES!

Maybe dated... But still a good one!
This game told the story of how Professor T. Bird and the three Battletoads, Rash, Zitz, and Pimple, are escorting Princess Angelica to her home planet using their spacecraft, the 'Vulture.' Pimple and Angelica decide to take a leisurely trip on Pimple's flying car. They are ambushed and captured by the Dark Queen's ship, the 'Gargantua.' Pimple sends out a distress signal to the Vulture, alerting Professor T. Bird, Rash, and Zitz that himself and Angelica had been captured. Learning that the Gargantua is hidden beneath the surface of a nearby planet called, 'Ragnarok's World,' Professor T. Bird flies Rash and Zitz there in the Vulture to rescue them.[1]

In the end, this game was and still is a classic 2D fighting game, on par with games like, 'Street's Of Rage', 'Double Dragon' or even, 'The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', and even though this game is kind of dated, it is certainly well worth trying at least once!

4 Awesome Crossover Fighting Games

One thing that became popular back in the 1990s was the use of crossover games, rather they be crossovers between 2 competitive fighting games or cross overs between a competitive fighting game, and another game or a competitive fighting game between 2 other games that initially not a fighting games at all.

With that said, I thought that you guys might enjoy these awesome cross over fighting games!

At number 4: Street Fighter X Mega Man (2012):

'Ryu' from the Street Fighter series vs, 'Mega Man' from the, 'Mega Man' series!
At number 3: Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe (2008):

Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe brings together the good, the bad & the ugly from a classic video game, and a series of classic comics that are the basis from some great video games!
At number 2: Battletoads & Double Dragon (1993):

Battletoads & Double Dragon... A good combo, eh?
Battletoads & Double Dragon... A good combo, eh?
At number 1: Marvel Vs. Capcom (1994):

Marvel Vs. Capcom... A classic video game!

5 Classic Video Games That Should Be Made In To 5 Blockbuster Movies

Over the decades there has been a lot of great video games that have come out that have entertained audiences all over the world as movies. But with the failure of, Super Mario Bros. (1993), the fad seems to have faded in to the background!

Well with the movie industry just more or less essentially going through and remaking just about every movie that has ever been made... And oft times butchering the remake, I thought that I would give some suggestions to tap in to a sorely neglected, but extremely plentiful area... The video game!
So without further adieu:

5. Mega Man.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="256"] Mega Man... A great game that could be total block buster![/caption]

Now this game was a truly classic game that came out for the, 'Nintendo' back in the 1980s, and when it did come out, it was a monumental sensation! And with it still maintaining it's cult status decades later, and with the, 'Super Hero' movie being such a hot ticket item right now for the box office, Why not bring this super hero to life?

For more information on this game, please check out this clip from: Mega Man.

4. Super Maro Bros.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="440"] Doing a remake of the movie, could be a great blockbuster![/caption]

This is a remake that I certainly would like to see! Don't get me wrong, I did like the original movie, but if the studios do it right, not only would it be a great movie, but it could potentially make up for the failings of it's predecessor!

For more information on the game, please check out this clip from: Super Mario Bros.

As for the movie, please check out this trailer:

3. Battletoads.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="444"] Bringing these guys back to life as a big screen film, would be freaking awesome![/caption]

A great video game from the Super Nintendo era, and a fun cartoon... Why not make it in to a movie? I mean they are bringing the Ninja Turtles back, why not bring these fighting frogs back to life?

For more information on the game, please check out this clip from: Battletoads.

As fort he show, please enjoy this clip:

2. Halo.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="628"] Halo would make for a great movie![/caption]

Now this one isn't exactly classic per-se, but it still applies, this game is to the XBox, what Super Mario is to Nintendo, and is well deserving of it's own movie!

1. Contra.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500"] A classic game that I still think would make for a fantastic movie![/caption]

If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times, this game was truly historic, and if they turned it in to a movie, I imagine it will be truly epic!

I am sure that there are a lot more, but these are the ones that I was thinking would be truly the best of the batch!
