Rob Zombie/Ozzy Osbourne: Iron Head (2001) - #Song #Review

Two legends of heavy metal collaborating on an amazing song!

I haven't heard many collaborations between bands or genre's, but so far I have to say that I really like it! I mean I don't have many examples of this except for when, 'Metallica' played with the San Francisco Orchestra in a show that to this date is still completely awesome! 

Now I am not talking about something lame like, 'Donny & Mary' type of thing... To those who like this type of music... It may have been great in the 1970s, but the truth is, is it is pretty out of date by today's standards.

But there is another great song that I listened to with another group of absolutely amazing legends of heavy metal... That is a song that Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Zombie did together for the album, 'The Sinister Urge' in 2001... Iron Head! 

A great song from a great album!

Besides the fact that this song has two of the greatest legends of heavy metal over the last 30 years. It has a great beat, and some great lyrics... Finally the other thing that I really like about this song is that the arrangement of how much time these legends had between them is just brilliant! 

In the end, I can't say that this is my favorite song, but the truth is, is I can't see anything wrong with this one!

X-Men Evolution: Season 1 - Episode 9: 'Survival Of The Fittest' (2001) - TV Episode

Official Score = 2 Devils

Well so far so good, as far as X-Men Evolution goes, I have to admit that even with the creative license that the creators of this series took with the original story, that this show is pretty awesome, and with the inclusion of some of the more  famous villains of the original series taking a more active role in the series, what can I say? I mean it is pretty awesome!

And this next episode brings another famous big bad that I personally was a fan of when I was a kid to the series, and that episode being: Episode 9: 'Survival Of The Fittest'!

Directed by: Gary Graham (Kung-Fu Panda 2), this episode basically, what happens is that both sides of these growing mutant armies have been sent to camp to learn survival skills and the like... During this time Mystique (Colleen Wheeler) decides to let Professor Xavier's extreme dangerous and unstable brother, 'Cain Marko/The Juggernaut' (Paul Dobson) have a little bit of fun!

Mystique has pretty much guaranteed that this time around, while the kids are away, the adults won't play!

In the end it will be up to the kids at camp to try and work together  this one time, before the monster that Mystique unleashed can really do something horrible!

The only real problem that I had with this episode... Where as it was cool to have seen Juggernaut getting some screen time, the episode just was not all that... It was fun, but when it was over with, well... That was that!

Now if you are watching this series from beginning to end, this one is a must, but if you are looking at getting introduced to it... This may not be the best episode for that!

A Moment Of Silence In Memory Of September 11, 2001

In memory of the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, Hellinspace, will not be posting today.

September 11th 2001... A day that no one in America will ever forget...

With that said, we here at Hellinspace will be taking a moment of silence to honor the memory of those that were lost on that day, and to honor the memory of those brave heroes that risked their lives at the crash sites by ending our posting for the day.

X-Men: Season 1 - Episode 8: 'SpykeCam' (2001) - TV Episode Review

Official Score = 3 Devils

When I was a kid I was one who instead of collecting sports card, ended up trading comics & comic trading cards... My top 2 favorites of the Marvel stuff that I have in the collection that I still have, is, 'Wolverine' & 'Sabretooth' (For a brief time I would have said, 'Cyclops'... But that was only for a brief time...)

But you know those two are probably two of the most bad ass characters from both sides of the aisle that have ever exited!

And having these two guys in the latest episode of, 'X-Men Evolution' is largely why I am going to say that this episode is probably my favorite episode of the series... Of course there are other reasons, but I have to admit that they are pretty bad ass!

Sabertooth going to war with Wolverine!

Now this episode, which stars: Meghan Black (Elf), Neil Denis (RoboCop Alpha Commando), Michael Donovan (Captain N: The Game Master), Noel Fisher (Red), Zahf Paroo (Firewall), David Kaye (Fido), Scott McNeil (Conan: The Adventurer), Kirby Morrow (Class Of The Titans), Maggie Blue O'Hara (Finley The Fire Engine), Venus Terzo (Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog) & Kirsten Alter (Chaos).

Now the episode tells the story of how when Spyke (Neil Denis) gets a video camera for a school project, problems begin to ensue...

You see Spyke ends up being somewhat careless with the thing, and where as it shows Xavier's Academy, the camera itself ends up falling in to the hands of one of the X-Men's biggest threats at the time... Sabretooth (Michael Donovan)!

'Sabertooth' going up against, 'Rogue'!

And in the end, Sabretooth intends to settle up with his ole friend, 'Wolverine', and come for a visit that no one at the school will ever forget!

In the end, besides the fact that this episode has some of my favorite characters from the, 'Marvelverse' in it, it also has a nice on the edge of your seat element... (A thing that has up to this episode, mostly has been missing.)

So in the end folks, if you want to see a truly fun episode of a great animated TV series, check this out, I think you might find that you quite enjoy it!

Session 9 (2001) - Movie Review

It is very rare when I see a movie with a cast that I really like but in a movie that I truly think maybe completely useless...

I mean it is even more rare when I see movies that seem to be completely useless so it kind of goes with out saying that it is rare when I see a movie with cast that I like, but the movie itself is completely useless... Sadly Session 9 (2001) is one of those movies!

I mean this movies only truly redeeming quality is the quality of cast that is in this movie! Including David Caruso (CSI: Miami), Paul Guilfoyle (CSI: Las Vegas), Josh Lucas (Hulk), Brendan Sexton III (Empire Records) & Larry Fessenden (Habit).

Besides that though, there really is not much of anything really redeeming about this movie, I mean the cinematography seems to be some one who is trying to make an Art House Psychological Thriller, but the styles that Uta Briesewitz (Arthur), the person who did the cinematography on this movie, seemed to do a weird cross between a mockumentary, and regular style movie... Either way it at times is distracting and useless.

There is this old rundown house in the movie that seems to show up near the end of the movie... The only problem is that it seems to be completely useless (except to have Brendan Sexton running out of it for some reason.)

The symbolism in this movie regarding the silver coins that seem to be found through out the Hospital, and which is supposed to have some sort of importance in the movie was completely lost on me...

The last thing that I wanted to say is that this story seems very convoluted and confused, in that it has to do with a crew of asbestos removers that go in to an empty mental health hospital to take out the contaminants in the place, before it can be turned in to some sort of government building. And as they are doing so, one of the guys finds patient records that seem to consist of some wire tapes of sessions by some long dead patient, and as he listens to it, the leader of the group seems to be going more and more insane, while the rest of the crew seem to be cracking at the seems...

Some how these tapes are supposed to having something to do with the cause of the problems that the leader has, the only problem is that with the style in which this movie is filmed, you can't tell if something has possessed this guy, or if he is just nuts.

In the end, I didn't find this movie to be terribly worth while (which is unfortunate because I had been looking forward to this movie for the last few years), and in the end if you try it, I hate to say it, but you might find that you have the same problems as well!

X-Men: Evolution: Season 1 - Episode 7: 'Turn Of The Rogue' (2001) - TV Episode Review

So far I am going to have to say that, 'X-Men : Evolution' has done a truly exceptional job in creating a show around Stan Lee's creation that had to do with the, 'X-Men' if they had grown up as teenagers in a more fledgling, 'Xavier Academy'...

Don't get me wrong, I am well aware of the fact that they took a lot of creative liberties with the show, and so I can't really see them using much from this show in the movies... But this show is a total blast! And definitely one that I can see why kids really like!

And you know what, the latest episode that I have seen, 'Turn Of The Rogue' (2001) is no different!

You see in this episode, with Cyclops (Played by: Kirby Morrow) and Jean Grey (Venus Terzo) preparing for their School Geology trip, Mystique uses this trip as an opportunity to pit her growing team against Xavier's, 'X-Men'!

The way that she does this, is that she has Rogue (Meghan Black), replace Jean Grey on the trip, but in the end, Mystique's training exercise will back fire in a major way, and the X-Men team will have a new housemate and team member!

This episode is awesome because it has all the elements, un-easy alliances, betrayal, and having to come together to fight against a common enemy!

In the end, this episode is a true blast, I mean it is not the best episode I have seen of this series, but it is fun, and if you are watching it from the beginning, then this one is definitely one that you don't want to miss!

X-Men: Evolution: Season 1 - Episode 6: 'Middleverse' (2001) - TV Episode Review

You know, so far I have to say that I know that, 'X-Men: Evolution' is a show that is more meant for children (I mean the animation and the basic story structure prove that)... But the truth is, is I have found this show to be an awful lot o fun (despite the fact that the series has kind of majorly went off the reservation when it comes to staying true to the comics!)

I mean this series does stay true to the basics, but it is geared up for teens, and I have to say that if you are a fan of, 'The X-Men' or animation, then it is fun for adults as well, and episode 6: 'Middleverse' is no different!

Written by: Adam Beechen (Pink Panther & Pals), Evelyn Gabai (The Mask) & Directed by: Steven E. Gordon (Terminator Salvation). Starring: Meghan Black (Elf), Neil Denis (RoboCop: Alpha Command), Maggie Blue O'Hara (Living With The Dead), Christopher Gray (Fear), Kirby Morrow (InuYasha), Brad Swaile (Dragon Ball Z), Venus Terzo (It) & Sam Vincent (Krypto The Super Dog).

The episode tells the story of how after accidentally discovering the work of a genius mutant by the name of, 'Forge' (Sam Vincent), Nightcrawler (Braid Swaile) is sucked in to an alternate dimension that appears to be just outside of our world, but still apart of it!

When he gets there though, he finds out that he is not the only one there, when he ends up discovering that the inventor of the machine that brought Nightcrawler there has been stuck inside the same dimension for decades with out anyway to get out!

And it will take Nightcrawler, Forge & the X-Men to get them both out of there... Because if the team can't do it, then no one can!

Now I can't say that there is anything particularly bad about this episode, the truth is, is this episode just really did not keep me on the edge of my seat like some shows do... But I did enjoy it... And well... You might to!

Halleluja: Rammstein (2001) - Song Review

I'll tell you this much folks, you might not think so, but German heavy metal is really pretty freaking awesome! I mean I find that some times that they will do some stuff in their music that American heavy metal Artists wouldn't necessarily do... (and that is really saying something, considering the fact that people like, 'Rob Zombie' have songs called, 'Living Dead Girl'...

And one such group that I have found that I really like that comes from Germany, is, 'Rammstein'... Besides the fact that their industrial style of music is completely freakin awesome, their songs oft times tell an epic tale!

And you know what? 'Halleluja'... A song that they did for their 2001 album, Links 2-3-4... May not be the best of this type of music that they did, but it ain't the worst either.

Also released as part of the soundtrack for the original music for, 'Resident Evil', this song was definitely a fun song, I mean it had a lot of the elements that makes Rammstein music so much fun: Stuff that I mentioned above and all... The problem is, is that where as most of these songs are almost like lyrical elements... This song felt like to me like listening to an, 'Avril Lavigne' song... And well... I will be honest and say that I don't hate Avril Lavigne, but she is not at the top of my list of people to listen to... And unfortunately neither is this song by Rammstein!

Paul Walker... A Tribute To A, 'Skull' At The End Of His, 'Joyride'

With the unfortunate passing of superstar, actor Paul Walker (Vehicle 19), I thought it would be fun to remember Paul Walker, not just for his amazing contributions to the world in general (of which there is numerous), but to remember that little piece of Paul Walker that entertained fright fans all over the world... I am talking about the work that he would do in the classic horror movies: The Skulls (2000), & Joyride (2001)!

In, The Skulls (2000), Paul Walker would star as: 'Caleb Mandrake' alongside, Joshua Jackson (Fringe) in a movie that would tell the story of the secret lives of those in secret societies, and the damage that it can cause them, and how as these college students become members of these secret societies, can also go on to an amazing career after their experience in these societies... In the case of, 'The Skulls'... Well the name says it all!

As for Joyride (2001), Paul Walker would co-star with, LeeLee Sobieski (The Glass House) & Steve Zahn (Saving Silverman) in this heart stopping chill ride that tells the story of when 3 friends on a trip from Colorado to New Jersey, who end up talking to a trucker on a CB that ends up being a lunatic and chases after them!

Rob Zombie: House Of 1,000 Corpses (2001) - Song Review

Rob Zombie (Halloween)... The truth is, is that in some ways you could say that this man is a true legend in the entertainment industry! I mean this guy has a truly impressive career as both a musician and a filmmaker!

With that in mind, one of the first films that I ever saw that he did was the movie, 'House Of 1,000 Corpses' (2003), and you know what? Since then I have found that for the most part that I have likes everything I have ever seen of his work!

Now there is one song that he did, that was good, but kind of weird... (well weird being some what subjective...) That song being, 'House Of 1,000 Corpses'!

Now this song was first released on Rob Zombie's second solo album in 2001 called, 'Sinister Urges'... And well lets be honest, it is a no brainer the fact that this song would ultimately be used in the sound track for the movie of the same name!

Now I never heard the Sinister Urges version of this song (and so I don't really know if this song is in anyway different from it's predecessor, but I did find this particular song to be both good and bizarre at the same time!

I mean this song really doesn't hold back, and it is almost like listening to a horror movie, which was a lot of fun but it was to long! What I mean by this is the fact that in the beginning of the song there is a part that I personally felt was pretty useless...

In the end though, this song is a fun one and I found it to be fun to listen to... And if you check it out, you might find the same thing as well!

Alien Ant Farm: Smooth Criminal (2001) - Song Review

You know when I was a kid one of my favorite songs that Michael Jackson did at the time was the song, 'Smooth Criminal'... The song was great, I mean it had an element of, 'Noir' in the song lyrics (if this song had been made in to an actual movie, it would have been written in the same style as classic 1940s Film Noir!)

And you know what even the music video fit in to the classic 1940s Film Noir style... And I would even go further and say that between the song itself and the video, just about everything fit perfectly!

With that in mind though I still found that, 'Alien Ant Farm' created a truly awesome remake of the song in 2001 as part of their album, 'Anthology'... As a matter of fact this was the song that got me interested in Alien Ant Farm itself!

Now at that time I hadn't heard to many remixes of songs... I mean I had heard a few decent tribute songs for Metallica, but that was pretty much it! So being able to listen to this song truly was a lot of fun!

Why was this song so good? Well besides the lyrics itself, this song took a completely different direction then Michael Jackson's version went... (Both good, but definitely different...) And I have to admit that, that is part of why I like this song as much as I do!

Michael Jackson's was definitely more, 'Noir' but with a definite Rock/R&B feel to it... Which was and still is good, but Alien Ant Farms version was more of a modern day punk version of the classic song, and besides the fact that the tune is very catchy, it also has a humorous Video with it as well!

The next thing that I wanted to mention as a reason why I do like this song, is the fact that I do like seeing the different directions various artists take when they are re-creating A masterpiece and trying to give a new spin on it...

In the end this song is a fun one, and definitely worth listening to at least once... I hate to say it though, a lot of the rest of the music on this album in my opinion kind of sucks and is not worth getting the album for just one song!

An Interesting Look At The History Of Metallica's Bassists!

Just about everyone knows about Robert Trujillo and his role as Metallica's bassist... The truth is, is he is not bad... But he is just not a Cliff Burton or Jason Newsted.... But then again who really is?

Since Metallica came in to existence one of the weird facts about Metallica is the fact that they have not had a permanent bassist!

The first bassist that they had was bassist Ron McGovney... He came on when the group first formed back in the early 1980s, but due to clashing with Lars Ulrich (Drummer), and Dave Mustaine (guitarist)... After that though Metallica really started to come in to it's own!

You see after Ron McGovney left Metallica, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich found Bassist, Cliff Burton! Now for those of you who don't know who Cliff Burton is, (Well you should... Joking! ;p)

With that in mind Cliff Burton became one of the best bassists that Metallica ever had (most people who are long term fans of, Metallica (myself included), consider him to be one of the best bassists that Metallica ever had!)  The reason that I think he maybe one of the best bassists that they ever had, is not just the fact that he plays (or unfortunately played), one kick ass bass guitar... But you can tell in the old concert footage of Metallica's, that Cliff Burton and the Metallica team really jelled amazingly well!

Unfortunately though, the truth is, is that back in 1986 Cliff Burton would pass away in an accident when the band was touring in Sweden...

In my opinion... (and for you Cliff Burton fans, don't worry I am still with you on the fact that he is one of the better Metallica bassists,) but after Cliff Burton passed away Jason Newsted took over the bassist position!

And the truth is, is that Metallica grew up with Newsted as the bassist (considering the fact that unfortunately Cliff Burton ended up passing away with in the first 5 years of Metallica's life), and so I can't really say that Jason Newsted was particularly a bad bassist... He just was no Cliff Burton!

The truth is though, and this maybe the biggest failure... (but in some way the biggest plus point for me) is the fact that not long after ...And Justice For All (1988) Metallica's sound started to change (don't get me wrong their older work is some of my favorite albums, but a lot of the stuff that changed after, ...And Justice For All came out that I did find that I really enjoy!)

I can't really explain it except to say that the work during this time (which i would say is mostly work that they did together in the early 1990s was some of the best work that Jason Newsted did with the band! Especially when they did the, Black Album (I know that, 'The Unforgiven' is probably one of the most plagiarized names that Metallica has ever used... Considering the fact that this song already has 2 sequels attached to it!)

The truth is, is that the, Black Album was a truly amazing album... And admittedly some might say that, 'The Black Album' was the last truly great album that Metallica ever did (certainly the best album that Jason Newsted did with Metallica), but the truth is, is that it wasn't!

A lot of fans claim that with the release of, 'Load' and 'Reload' that the band had sold out, and that the rest of their albums since then have been crap! That's a fat load of crap... (pardon my harsh language...)

But they did not sell out... The truth is, is the music that they produced with, 'Load' and 'Reload' was different... But different doesn't always mean bad! The music from this album definitely did not for the most part match their early work, but they still did a great job... (and in my opinion, in some extent I would say that Jason Newsted did some of his best work on these 2 albums)!

The truth is though, is that after that the work that Jason Newsted did was just not as good... And in January 2001 Jason Newsted ended up leaving the group due to frustrations with the group...

in 2003 Robert Trujillo came on to replace Metallica as the current bassist for Metallica... The only thing I can say is that his work with Metallica is alright... I mean he did a good job with, St, Anger (2003), but I feel like comparing Robert Trujillo with those that came before him is a little unfair... I mean St. Anger was good, but, Death Magnetic (2008) just was not what it should be!

In the end, fortunately Metallica is still around, and we will see what sort of goodies are to come!

The Void (2001) - Movie Review

On The Sci-Fi Channel (Now I believe it is called, ‘Syfy’) but there is this continuing series of Movies/TV Shows that deal with certain elements of Science (and more directly Science Fiction) that generally tend to be quite entertaining!

One show on this network generally tended to do with a town that is comprised primarily of the world’s most smartest people, and the hilarious consequences of their sometimes, dangerous and oft times strange inventions! This show, is the show that we all know and love, ‘Eureka’

Now that show is an awful lot of fun and frequently quite hilarious (usually because it takes the Sheriff (who is the dumbest person in town) and his friends to resolve whatever problems that the smart people have created!

There is another side to the Science Fiction on that channel, and that is more well-known it seems like in the filmaking community, and that is the movies that Syfy has made!

Now I know that not everyone agrees with this concept (I know I don’t totally agree with this) but Syfy has been known to make these sometimes bizarre but also oft times fun end of the world style doomsday scenario movies that usually puts the, ‘hero’ or the, ‘heroes’ as the soul people fighting against the big bad group that is un wittingly about to destroy the world, or they are the only ones capable of salvaging what is left of humanity!

Now I personally think that at least part of the reason why people think that these movies are bad, is because frequently they are well funded, with great special effects, a great cast, oft times are directed real nicely, and they even have been known to have some fun cinematography… The only problem is, is that not all of these movies are great, and it does seem rather odd that most of these movies generally tend not to make it to Blu-Ray or DVD!

You might be wondering why I am mentioning this… Well simply put, the movie that I am reviewing here actually seems very much like a movie that people could have first scene on the Syfy channel called, The Void (2001)

Now one of the prevailing theories that I have heard in the limited number of Science circles that I have been able to hang out with, and this theory has definitely been a long standing theme in Science Fiction movies and TV shows, is the idea that if you use a particle accelerator to create a black hole, that if even the slightest hint of anything goes wrong, that it could end up destroying the planet!

A truly fascinating concept for a great Science Fiction movie right?

Well, The Void tells the story of how a greedy old man (McDowell), whom 8 years earlier had tried to generate a stable black hole, ended up destroying an entire complex and killing dozens of people!

Well 8 years later, this guy is now dying of cancer, and the Earth is quickly running out of energy… Well he decides to try again, only this time though, the woman (Tapping) who is the daughter of one of the projects managers at the old test site, ends up convincing her boyfriend (Paul) to help her save the world, stop this man who is trying to start the project again (and which is destined to fail again), before this project and its leader kill even more people!

In the end, I do think this movie is a fun one, but the cinematography techniques used in making this film were so bad and disjointed (at certain times they use slow motion on the camera, and jerky almost stop motion cinematography so much, that at some points Ms. Tapping actually looks like a character from a video game), all in all it heavily detracts from the quality of the film, but if you can get past that aspect of it, it is actually pretty fun!
