Movie Of The Half: Superman (1978)!
Not strictly a, 'Thanksgiving movie' per-se... I thought that I would go for the more tradition route for this Thanksgiving, and recommend a fan favorite... Something that is as American as, 'mom', 'apple pie,' and all the other iconic stuff that makes America great...
I thought that I would recommend: Superman (1978)!
For those few out there that haven't heard of the movie: Essentially Superman tells the story of an Alien (who looks human,) who is sent to Earth from his dying planet, and grows up to fight crime as the worlds first super hero, for truth, justice and the American way!

The Second Five Of Ten Horror Movies To Enjoy This Halloween

| An awesome holiday! One worth spending doing a movie marathon! |
Well now that we have done that run, it is time to show you some great horror films from the 1970s on up that could be great choices for this Halloween as well!
At number 1: Halloween (1978).
Now this one is a little obvious, but the truth is, is John Carpenter's, 'Halloween' has in a lot of respects been one of the defining movies when it comes to horror movies to enjoy during Halloween, and is one that if you are looking for something to scare the hell out of you this Halloween, will do a great job!
Number 2: Cannibal Holocaust (1980).
Cannibal Holocaust... This horror film from the 1980s is truly gruesomely fun, and could be said to be one of the more famous Cannibal movies of all time... If you do decide on this one though... Watch it with some one there... You won't regret it!
Next up at number 3: Tales From The Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (1995).
Now this movie, (which was based on the classic horror anthology TV series/Comics, 'Tales From The Crypt Presents',) does have some fun thrills and chills, but what it looses in over the top chills, they make up in just having an absolutely bad-ass movie!
And at number 4: 28 Days Later (2002).
This one is an awesome British Zombie movie, that is as much fun now as it was then... And I will say this, I suspect that the way this movie was filmed had some influence on at least how some of the earlier seasons of, 'The Walking Dead were filmed!'
And finally at number 5 we have: Scream 4 (2011).
With this one, you might be asking yourself why I am doing a sequel movie instead of an original movie... Well the truth is, is the original for this movie would make for a great addition to this list, but I thought that I would mention, 'Scream 4', because let's be honest, this movie series was fantastic, and as long as the studio is smart and lets the movie series die, then it will have gone out with a bang!

Scout Taylor-Compton & Rooney Mara: Two Great Scream Queens That Admirably Filled Some Big Shoes!

| Jamie Lee Curtis & Heather Langenkamp are tough acts to follow, but Scout Taylor Compton & Rooney Mara definitely did a great job filling those shoes they left behind! |
Now before I go on, let me say this, Jamie Lee Curtis (The Fog) & Heather Langenkamp (Shocker) are two actresses that did totally amazing jobs in the roles that they played... I mean Heather Langenkamp's girl next door who ends having to fight against an entity that only appears to exist in dreams... And Jamie Lee Curtis's role from regular high school student to having to fight against a brutal and sadistic killer who has targeted her and is killing off her friends is sheer brilliance, (Jamie Lee Curtis played, 'Laurie Strode' in the original, 'Halloween' and Heather Langenkamp played, 'Nancy Thompson' in the original, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'...)
With that said though, I will say this, Scout Taylor-Compton (who plays, 'Laurie Strode' in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake series,) delivered a truly inspiring job taking over the role...

Now Taylor-Compton's, 'Laurie Strode' is different from Jamie Lee Curtis's, 'Laurie Strode' in a lot of ways (a great example is, Scout Taylor-Compton's more, 'sarcastic' Laurie Strode as opposed to Jamie Lee Curtis's more, 'girl next door' type of Laurie Strode... Both are good, but one of the reasons that Scout Taylor-Compton's Laurie Strode is so good is the differences between the two...)
Another reason why she did so good taking over the role, is the fact that she really made the role her own, and her progression from sarcastic teenage girl, to traumatized teen (as seen in part 2), is just sheer brilliance... And a little scary, due to the fact that you could almost see that as how she would descend in to total madness if Ms. Taylor-Compton was really going through it!

And now on to Rooney Mara... Before I continue... A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) was not a great movie... But Rooney Mara for me was one of those few shining lights in the movie that really helped make sure that the movie did not totally suck!
And what I mean by this is the fact that Rooney Mara (who took over the role of: 'Nancy' from Heather Langenkamp,) really did this role justice, by really only emulating Ms. Langenkamp's strength that she gave, 'Nancy' in the original movie...
Other then that... She really made the role her own, and really just brought this character to life in a new and different, and exciting way!

Getting To See A Classic Horror Movie With Fresh Eyes
By the way... If you thought that I meant, 'fresh eyes' in the literally sense... Well you are kind of right... Just not in the disgusting way!
No... What I mean is this... One of the things that I really like to do, and is sort of a tradition that I have had since I was a teenager is to get a whole bunch of really great junk food and then watch a whole bunch of great horror films... And you know what, if you haven't tried it yet... If you like horror movies, I would recommend giving it a try... It is freaking awesome!
This Halloween though was one with a little bit of a twist! You see, my wife and I got to enjoy my Halloween tradition together this year... But in years previous we have ended up watching other genres of films... Fun, but it really needs to be with horror movies... you know?
Well this year when we were arranging it, my wife was all in for watching some fun horror movies... And you know what? It was a total blast!
Now you might be wondering why I am sharing this little bit of personal information... Well the reason being is that we got to watch some awesome classics that I hadn't seen in years!
You see, for me, because I review movies all the time, and there are so many out there to review, I generally don't get much of an opportunity to re-watch classics that I have loved for quite a few years, and when I got to watch, Halloween (1978) and, The Omen (1976)... I got to say, it brought me back to the days of when I first watched both of these movies for the first time... Boy was it awesome!
And the reason that I mention all of this to you horror fans, is because where as it is true that even today that there is a lot of amazing horror movies that are coming out... I have noticed a trend with a lot of the younger generation of well (not just horror movie fans, but movie fans in general,) that they generally seem to tend to ignore the classics and stick exclusively to the newer films!
And well, I will say that there are some great reasons for going with newer movies, don't forget to check out the classics, they can scare the hell out of you just as well as the new ones, and in my opinion are just as good, and in most cases better then the newer movies out there!
So did I check out some classics with fresh eyes? Sure... For the newer generation, give it a try... I think you will find there is some truly amazing horror movies out there that have come out in the last hundred years that are just as good, if not better then some of the horror movies that have come in the last 14 years!

Five Kick Ass Final Girls Of The 1970s
So far so good, in this series I have outlined the women of horror, that have kicked some major big bad evil killer butt from the 1980s to the 2000's and since it has been a while i thought that it might be kind of fun to do the 1970s!
Now the truth is, is over the decades there have been a ton of amazingly talented women that have taken on some of horror movies worse villains, and so it was hard to cull it down to 5, but here is what I believe them to be:
At number 5: Kyle Richards (Eaten Alive).
Kyle Richards... Now you might not think it... I mean last I heard, Kyle Richards has mostly been doing reality tv these days, but when she was a kid, she did a lot of horror movies, and in each one... (At least the ones that I have seen,) she has last to the end of each one of them... And thus I think she definitely deserves a place!

At number 4: Linda Bliar (The Exorcist).
Now let's be honest here, The Exorcist is one of the most famous horror movies of all time, and with Linda Blair having starred in the first two, she definitely deserves her place in this listing of 5 kick ass final girls of the 1970s!

With number 3 we have: Marilyn Burns (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre).
Marilyn Burns... Now I am sad to say that this amazing talent, who really did a majorly awesome job of being a final girl in the 7os, as well as having maintained a role in horror movies ever since, has past away earlier this year, but if you haven't seen her work, you should, she totally rocks in just about everything she did!

Next up on the block, at number 2: Sigourney Weaver (Ghostbusters).
Sigourney Weaver, her role in the Alien movie series has been truly prolific, and after having been in 2 prolific Science Fiction series (the Alien movie series, and the Ghostbuster movie series,) she is definitely one that is worth mentioning for her role in helping bring the Alien movie series to the world in 1979!

And finally, at number 1: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween).

Battlestar Galactica Season: 1 - Episode: 8: 'Gun On Ice Planet Zero Part 1' (1978) - TV Episode Review

The reason I mention this is because this show is just starting to get better and better, with better special effects, better writing... Hell even a better intro!
I discovered this when I checked out Episode: 8 'Gun On Ice Planet Zero Part 1' (1978)!

"Muffy wanted to see snow!"In the latest episode, a deep space patrol is sent out, when they reach an ice planet, one of the new recruits discovers a device that is sending off, 'flares'... When he goes to investigate, he discovers that what was pulses is actually a new major weapon, and most of the new recruits are killed trying to destroy it (except one who is captured by the, 'Cylons'...)

In the end, what I said above... That is all true, and so much more, this episode is truly an amazing evolutionary leap from the pilot to this episode... I can see why people kept reviving this show, both as a show, and movies!
The last thing that I wanted to say is that, where as it is true that, 'Boxey' (Noah Hathaway), has been seen in episodes since the pilot, he has always played a very supporting role in the series, but this episode has a substantial role, and does an excellent job with it!
So rather you have been following the series from the beginning, or have just started, check this one out, you won't regret it!
Space Invaders (1978) - Video Game Review

For me, a recent example (albeit one that I am working on being able to review,) is the game, 'Phantasy Star 2' (1989) for the Sega Genesis...
Well I never had a chance to beat this game (as a matter of fact, the only way I was able to play it was because a friend of mine let me try his game, and that is how I know about it... The truth is though, is this is a game that I have wanted for years, and since I started reviewing video games I decided to pick it up and beat it (Don't worry, that review is pending!)
Another of these types of classics that I have been able to get back to is, Space Invaders (1978)!

And speaking about the easiness of beating this game... Well let's put it this way, you play as basically a tank that has to shoot either through or around a group of about 4 different blocks, and kill the Alien invaders that are heading down to destroy (The thing that makes this game harder then most, and in my opinion a total blast... That is the fact that you can't make your character fly up or down, and can only move from left to right!)
The next thing that I wanted to say about this game is it's impact in other media forms! What I mean for example is the fact that this game is prominent in at least one episode in the following shows: Danger Mouse, That '70s Show, Scrubs, Chuck, Robot Chicken & The Amazing World Of Gumball, as well as an extremely funny segment of the Futurama episode: Anthology Of Interest II!

Well the negative side of it is this, as good as this game is, it is old, and is (I imagine for new gamers), showing it's age... But no matter if you are a veteran gamer or a new gamer... Trying this game out at least once is assuredly well worth it!
Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 - Episode 7: The Long Patrol (1978) - TV Episode Review

Don't get me wrong, the remake was a great I mean besides the fact that it had all of the more generic elements that make a Science Fiction show great... Including the more likely modern elements, this remake was extremely exciting, and even the more tedious and redundant episodes (which there unfortunately was some of those), still kept you on the edge of your seat, wondering what direction it was going to go!
But there was something lacking from the remake that just didn't translate quite right from the original to the most recent remake... That is the camp factor!
You see, (and Star Trek pulled this off real well), but Battlestar Galactica (at least the original one did anyway), pulled off a surprising lot of elements pretty amazingly from humanities past, and some stuff from the future... And melded it in to campy joy!

And you know what? All of this... the straightforward stuff, as well as the camp stuff is really one of the major contributors to making Episode 7: 'The Long Patrol' So great!
Starring: Richard Hatch (The Streets Of San Francisco), Dirk Benedict (The A-Team), Lorne Greene (Earthquake), Herbert Jefferson Jr. (Apollo 13), John Colicos (The Changling), Maren Jensen (Deadly Blessing), Noah Hathaway (The NeverEnding Story), Laurette Spang (Plot 7) & Terry Carter (Foxy Brown).

You see, Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) has been assigned to a special recon viper with long range capabilities in order to be able to ferret out threats before any threats become visible... And of course not long after he leaves the Galatica on his mission he ends up finding it!
Ultimately what he finds is an Ancient colony of humans that used to be a Colonial, 'Penal Colony' whose current inhabitants appear to be the descendants of the original prison population (Guards included.)

Besides what I mentioned above, I have to say that the stuff that I didn't like about the previous episodes (a good example being that the writers seemed to write Adama so that he sounded a little like a, 'blowhard'...) Mostly that was all gone, and made this episode that much more enjoyable! Give it a try, it is an episode worthy of the trip through the original BSG series!

Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 - Episode 6: 'The Lost Warrior' (1978) - TV Episode Review

You know, being such a huge fan of the most recent Battlestar Galactica remake, I was surprised to say that the original series... Not all that impressed!
The main problem that I had with it is that everything seemed to have this epic (almost theatrical) feel to it... This made Lorne Greene's roll of, 'Adama' to be extremely irritating...
But this latest episode, 'The Lost Warrior' (1978) not only seemed to loose this useless (and kind of annoying) theatrical style to the show, and just made it a sort of a fun sort of pseudo Sci-fi/Western, that was just exactly the type of change that I think this show needed to get better!
Written by: Donld P. Bellisario (Quantum Leap) and Directed by: Rod Holcomb (Chains Of Gold). Starring: Richard Hatch (Star Trek: Axanar), Dirk Benedict (The A-Team), Lorne Greene (Earthquake), Herbert Jefferson Jr. (Apollo 13), Noah Hathaway (The NeverEnding Story), Laurette Spang (Airport 1975), Terry Carter (The Phil Silvers Show), Katherine Cannon (The Hidden), Lance LeGault (Mortal Kombat), Claude Earl Jones (Dark Night Of The Scarecrow), Red West (Roadhouse) & Johnny Timko (Prophecy).
This episode tells the tale of how Apollo (Richard Hatch), who has been detected by the Cylons ends up drawing them away from the Galactica and it's refugee fleet... The problem is that Apollo has run out of fuel and lands on the planet, 'Equellus'.

With out options, and after being discovered by, 'Puppis' (Johnny Timko) and his mother, 'Vella' (Katherine Cannon)... Apollo decides to settle in to the simple life of living with this frontier family (at least until he can find some way to get back to the, 'Galactica'.)
Meanwhile, on the Galactia, 'Starbuck' (Dirk Benedict) and the rest of the squadron decide to distract, 'Boxey' (Hathway), from the fact that, 'Apollo' isn't home yet... Due to the fact that she, and the rest of the fleet can't go and search for Apollo until after the Cylon's leave!
Well during this time, Apollo has discovered that a lone Cylon that call's itself, 'Red Eye' has decided to work for an evil human leader by the name of, 'Lacerta' (Claude Earle Jones), and decides to figure out how Lacerta is connected to the Cylons so that he can figure out a way to get home!

In the end, I also liked how the planet is set up sort of like, 'the old west'. But there are definitely some major plot holes that are a little distracting in the episode... Still this episode in my opinion despite any negative stuff, I have found to be one of the better episodes, and if you check it out, you might find the same thing as well!

This episode tells the tale of how Apollo (Richard Hatch), who has been detected by the Cylons ends up drawing them away from the Galactica and it's refugee fleet... The problem is that Apollo has run out of fuel and lands on the planet, 'Equellus'.

Apollo sitting talking to a malfunctioning, 'Cylon' in a western style city on the planet, 'Equellus.'[/caption]With out options, and after being discovered by, 'Puppis' (Johnny Timko) and his mother, 'Vella' (Katherine Cannon)... Apollo decides to settle in to the simple life of living with this frontier family (at least until he can find some way to get back to the, 'Galactica'.)
Meanwhile, on the Galactia, 'Starbuck' (Dirk Benedict) and the rest of the squadron decide to distract, 'Boxey' (Hathway), from the fact that, 'Apollo' isn't home yet... Due to the fact that she, and the rest of the fleet can't go and search for Apollo until after the Cylon's leave!
Well during this time, Apollo has discovered that a lone Cylon that call's itself, 'Red Eye' has decided to work for an evil human leader by the name of, 'Lacerta' (Claude Earle Jones), and decides to figure out how Lacerta is connected to the Cylons so that he can figure out a way to get home!

But there are definitely some major plot holes that are a little distracting in the episode... Still this episode in my opinion despite any negative stuff, I have found to be one of the better episodes, and if you check it out, you might find the same thing as well!

The Main Mistake When Remaking Horror Movies...

As we all know, Hollywood, for about the last decade or so, has been remaking just about everything that has ever come out... With a special emphasis on remaking horror movies...
I have wondered why this is... I mean is it because they are out of ideas? Or maybe Hollywood in it's bid to continue to suck out every cent that they could out of some of horror's most classic horror movie franchises (like, 'Friday The 13th', or 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'... Just to name a few.)
Well for whatever the reasons that maybe, there is one thing that they have mostly done wrong when it comes to trying to remake these movies... In my opinion it is one of the biggest mistakes that they have made... It is a mistake that they don't always make... But they do often make... That is, the choices that the studios make for the people they hire to write the story for the remade masterpiece!

Fright Night (2011)... One of the more recent remakes that has had very mixed reviews![/caption]
Now you might be asking, 'why is that so important?' I imagine some of you are probably thinking, 'that's nonsense... The biggest problem is the fact that they over CGI everything!' Well, to that last one I will say that it is definitely one of the problems, but in my opinion the writing is the main problem!
As for the writers themselves... Well, for the most part, they are in-and-of-themselves not bad writers... I'm just not convinced that all of them are fans of the genre, or fans of the original movies that they are trying to remake... You have to have that if you are going to have a successful remake!
A couple of good examples of this are:
1. A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)... Let's be honest here... This movie stunk, as far as a remake goes, this movie was virtually killed off a legendary series that had for itself created: 7 sequels, a TV series, helped launch the careers of a lot of A list celebrities, including: Johnny Depp (Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl), Breckin Meyer (Rat Race) and Patricia Arquette (True Romance) as well as having created tons of media in just about every venue... I mean Freddy Krueger was a house hold name... but when the remake came out that all pretty much has gone to pot, with no new, 'Nightmare' movies currently being released!

2. Friday The 13th (2009), in all truth, I thought that this movie was better then the, 'Nightmare' remake, but again... This movie series was a house hold name because of it's popularity, and since the release of the remake movie, has not seen another, 'Friday' movie on the horizon!

Now I have heard rumors of sequels coming out someday... But then again I have also heard rumors of Halloween 3 supposedly starting production since 2009 as well!
Either way, the main reason that I think that these movies tanked is because of the story! I mean don't get me wrong... If you are like me, then you probably had a hard time getting past the fact that Robert Englund (Urban Legends) was no longer, 'Freddy'... But, Friday The 13th, really did not have that excuse... And story wise was just not as good (I mean they tried to rely on the success of the, 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' remake for this movie scene wise... And they tried to change the basic makeup of, 'Jason' himself... To say the least... A big mistake!)
Now I have shown you the negative side... I wanted to show you the positive side as well with Rob Zombie (House Of 1,000 Corpses) did with his remake!
Before I go on... Let me say this, Rob Zombie is a true fan of the Halloween series, (he has mentioned it in a few of the interviews that I have seen him do about the, 'Halloween' movies,) with that in mind, it shows!

Well if you haven't seen it yet, I won't say to much, just to say that, John Carpenter's original 1978 classic, 'Halloween' movie is my favorite movie, but I also thoroughly enjoyed Rob Zombie's version as well!

Piranha (1978) - Movie Review

You know one of my favorite horror movies when I was a child was the movie, Jaws (1975)... Besides the fact that the movie itself was really exciting, I saw it at a young enough age, where the movie was still really terrifying, and when my family used to go to the beach like the day after... Boy was it exhilarating!
Let's be honest here folks, when you are still young enough, and impressionable enough to be seeing this kind of movie, the first thing you as a kid are going to believe when going in to the ocean, is that, 'Jaws' is going to get you... And heading in anyway, and facing your fear, is like a pulse pounding edge of your seat experience that you will never forget!
Well obviously, 'Jaws' never got me, and when I went to Universal Studios and saw the, 'Jaws' attraction, that fear and heart pounding exhilaration pretty much quickly turned in to just a life long enjoyment of the ocean and all it represents!
Now you might be wondering why I mention this... Well the reason that I mention this, is because as I grew up, so did my love of under water monster movies, and recently I had the chance to see the Joe Dante (Innerspace) B Movie classic, Piranha (1978) for the first time!

Starring: Bradford Dillman (Sudden Impact), Heather Menzies-Urich (Ssssss), Kevin McCarthy (UHF), Keenan Wynn (Once Upon A Time In The West), Dick Miller (The Terminator), Barbara Steele (Pit And The Pendulum), Belinda Balaski (The Vampire Hunters Club), Melody Thomas Scott (The Shootist), Bruce Gordon (Tower Of London), Paul Bartel (Escape From L.A.) & Janie Squire (The Great American Girl Robbery).
There is something rotten about to happen in the Lost River area... You see, it all starts when a couple who happens to be hiking through that area and camping, end up coming upon an old Army base that basically looks deserted, and the two of them end up deciding to take the last swim of their lives!
When the hikers end up going missing, 'Maggie Mckeown' (Heather Menzies-Urich) is hired to try and find them... Well, her first stop in the area is to pick up her guide... a surly pain in the ass by the name of, 'Paul Grogan' (Bradford Dillman)...

Well the next stop they go to is the old Army base, and when they get there they begin looking for any sign of the missing hikers... At one point Maggie goes as far as deciding to take on her own initiative to empty out the little pool out in the courtyard area... This is when the two of them are stopped by Dr. Robert Hoak (Kevin McCarthy).
Well they knock him out before Dr. Hoak has a chance to tell them that they just let loose a whole ton of genetically altered, 'Piranha' in to the river... And that these Piranha are about to head in to an area that is about to become heavily populated!
Well after Hoak destroys their only means of traveling on land to get to the right people to stop this mistake from becoming deadly, it will be up to Maggie, Paul & Doctor Hoak to travel the same river that the Piranha are now in, and get ahead of them, so that they can coordinate with the authorities to stop the Piranha, before the Piranha can destroy the grand opening of a recently made lake (this lake is what the river with the Piranha flow in to, and to ensure that the mountain of swimmers that are about to arrive, are not food for the Piranha!

In the end, this movie had all the great elements of a Roger Corman (Death Race 2000) a great cast of almost unknown talent, some groovey special effects that are still great even though they aren't CGI and a story that is completely fun, and the vision of a great director! The main problem that I had with this movie, is that like Roger Corman movies, it has some build up time... The problem is, is that unlike most of his other movies... There is to much build up time and after awhile it becomes a little distracting!
In the end, this movie is a fun one, and if you are a horror fiend like me, then there is a scene in this movie that you really shouldn't miss... Anyway check this one out, you might like it!

Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 - Episode 5. 'Lost Planet Of The Gods Part 2' (1978) - TV Episode Review

So far I will say this about this so far about the original, 'Battlestar Galactica'... I can definitely see how this show was inspired by the original, 'Star Wars' movies, but short of a few basic looks in both ships and clothing and a few of the special effects, I would say that this show stands on it's own merits as a show...
And where as I am going to have to say that the most recent remake of the series was probably better then this series (Only I believe though by the fact that this show never really got it's opportunity to stand on it's own two feet...) Nevertheless, so far I have to say that this show is not bad, it is quite good!
You can definitely see the tie in to this show and ancient Earth... (I have to admit that not only am I pleased by this, but the recent remake never satisfactorily explained that for me!)
It also truly had some great talent attached to it, including: Lorne Greene (Earthquake), Dirk Benedict (The A-Team), Noah Hathaway (The NeverEnding Story) & Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers) and that is just to name a few!

This episode being the final episode of the 2 parter, tells the story of how after the Galactica makes it in to the void that they eventually find their way out and to the ancient planet that is supposed to be the, 'birthplace of humanity'... On their heels though is Baltar (John Colicos) in his Basestar...

At one point it is really starting to look like things might be changing for the Galactica and there refugee fleet... You see, Adama (Lorne Greene) is on the trail of finding out which direction the, '13th tribe' went to, and Apollo (Richard Hatch) and Serena (Jane Seymour) will end up getting married... And to make matters even more interesting, Baltar seems to have practically thrown himself at the Galactica crew!
But starting with the kidnapping of Starbuck (Dirk Benedict), and leading up to an ending that will shock and surprise you, things quickly go from good to bad, and as time goes on, it is looking more and more like the Galactica may have fallen pray to yet another, 'Cylon' trap, and will have to escape by the skin of their seat!
In the end, this episode was well acted, and the special effects for the most part have continued to prove to be a lot of fun... The two problems honestly are:
1. The writing in this episode sucked... I mean it was so bad it was actually distracting!
2. The editing in this episode was horrible, but in all truth, if the writing wasn't so bad, then this would not have been as noticeable... But since the writing is as bad as it was in this episode, it has just expanded on the problem at hand!
As far as this episode goes... It may not be great, but it does tie in to the series, and if you like a series bad enough, you will usually have to deal with at least one bum episode!

But starting with the kidnapping of Starbuck (Dirk Benedict), and leading up to an ending that will shock and surprise you, things quickly go from good to bad, and as time goes on, it is looking more and more like the Galactica may have fallen pray to yet another, 'Cylon' trap, and will have to escape by the skin of their seat!
In the end, this episode was well acted, and the special effects for the most part have continued to prove to be a lot of fun... The two problems honestly are:
1. The writing in this episode sucked... I mean it was so bad it was actually distracting!
2. The editing in this episode was horrible, but in all truth, if the writing wasn't so bad, then this would not have been as noticeable... But since the writing is as bad as it was in this episode, it has just expanded on the problem at hand!
As far as this episode goes... It may not be great, but it does tie in to the series, and if you like a series bad enough, you will usually have to deal with at least one bum episode!

Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 - Episode 4: 'Lost Planet Of The Gods, Part 1' (1978) - TV Episode Review

Alright, so I will be honest with you guys and say this, so far this show has not quite followed through on what they did with the pilot... The truth is, is Adama (Lorne Greene) is annoyingly long winded... (As he is in this episode), so far a few of these early episodes were extremely dated, and frankly kind of dull... But I have a feeling that, that is about to change...
So far that is proving to potentially be the case with, 'Lost Planet Of The Gods'!
You see, this episode which tells the story of how after getting off of, 'Corolon' and continuing on their quest to find the 13th colony, the Battlestar Galctica is faced with a tough decision... You see, while on patrol, Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) and Apollo (Richard Hatch) come across a void that looks like it could be insurmountable.
The problem with that is that really the only other direction that the refugee fleet can go through is to try and destroy a small Cylon outpost... Little do they know though, that a Cylon Base Ship that is being commanded by the traitor, 'Baltar' (John Colicos) also happens to hiding out near there as well, and is putting his plan in to action to bring the last remnants of humanity in to subjugation...

The problem is, is that for the Galactica, is that Baltar may have his chance, you see, after Boomer (Herbert Jefferson Jr.) end up coming back from investigating the asteroid and the Cylon Base on it, they end up getting sick and accidentally giving it to almost the entire flight staff...
So now it will be up to the Shuttle Pilot trainees and 'Apollo' &, 'Starbuck' to help get a cure for their downed pilots, and to do so before the Cylons, or Baltar himself, or heck, even this bug, destroys the crew of the, 'Battlestar Galactica' and the only hoping of saving what remains of humanity!

In the end, the truth is, is I found this episode to be kind of boring at first. Don't get me wrong, it had it's promise, but for me it just wasn't keeping me interested... But as the episode drew to a close, I have to admit that the episode was pulled off nicely enough that I am looking forward to the next episode!
As for the good stuff, I won't say to much, but if you stick to your guns on this episode... Well I can't say for certain, because at the time that I am writing this review, I haven't seen the next episode, but if the next one goes as well as the ending of this episode... Then this will be a real nice 2 parter!
