Marvel Zombies #2 (2005) - #Comic #Review

Earth's mightiest heroes become earth's deadest heroes in this great alternative story line series!

So when I was a kid I got real heavily invested in reading both Marvel and DC comics of the era. These comics had a ton of both separate, as well as connected story lines that I am going to say were both fun as well as imaginative, and they gave me a nice bit of background to a lot of the comic book movies that have come out in the last 25 years or so!

With that said though, roughly since about the late 90s I kind of left the world of comics until recently... Since coming back to the world of comics I have not only discovered a whole plethora of comics to enjoy, but I have found one particular series that is not just AWESOME! But is very much a comic book series for the times, that comic book series being: Marvel Zombies!

The heroes we all know and love have become a part of the walking dead... I mean how cool is that!

I haven't had a chance to read to many of them yet, but I have read the first two so far, and this maybe strange to say, but as good as the first comic book was, the second one is so much better!

Imagine what the MCU would be if they ended up in a world similar to, 'The Walking Dead'... But with them as the walking dead! 

So far from what I can tell, the story in this series has to do with all of the heroes of that Earth being transformed in to Zombies with some semblance of intelligence, and the acceptance that they are the walking dead, and that they will continue to eat flesh... But what would a race of super-zombies do?

This comic, hell this series, rocks! 

Eat just about everything left on the Earth of course! so when these Zombies are scavenging for the last remnant of humanity and super powered entities, that is of course when Galactus comes to finish off the rest of them... Or maybe vice-versa, and the heroes will finish him off!

I have to admit that so far the only thing that I didn't like is the fact that the majority of the artwork for the Zombies seems to be only that they're lips have rotted away... With a few minor exceptions, that seems to be it!

Anyway, check this one out after you have read the first one, I think that you guys might really like it!

Marvel Zombies #1 (2005) - Comic Review

Alright, so I know it has been awhile since I have written another review... (It's been a busy ride,) but I am glad to be able to get back to writing these blogs/reviews... Because I hope you guys enjoy them as much as I enjoy writing them!

With that in mind I have a special treat for you guys, a marvel comic sub-series that I thought that not only would you guys enjoy, but I thought that with Halloween coming up, that this comic would be extremely appropriate and fun!

That comic book series of course being the, 'Marvel Zombie' series!

A fantastic series!

Now I don't fully know the full story on this series yet being that I have only read the first comic, but it does appear that just about all of the heroes that we have all come to love have become Zombies! (Think, 'The Avengers', 'Spider-Man' and all of the other classics from both the, 'MCU' and Fox's, 'Marvel Universe' if they were zombies!)

Anyway, in the beginning of the comic we see a Zombie Spider-Man, Hulk and A bunch of other Zombified super heroes as they are fighting what seems to be the last surviving mutant on Earth... You guessed... The last hero to survive the mutant holocaust, 'Magneto'!

Thor and the gang about to enjoy a meal, and, 'no' Magneto is not a guest at this meal!

Now the thing with these Zombie heroes is that although it is true that they are undead, they still have the ability to think and act as if they were alive, except that they are dead and have no, 'healing factor' anymore, and their powers seemed to have diminish...

But with Galactus's messenger arriving after the Zombie apocalypse, to try and prepare the planet for his arrival, maybe this Earth is doomed? Or is the Zombie apocalypse really over?

As for this comic, the truth is, is I am not giving it entirely all of the justice it deserves, I mean this comic is pretty brilliant, having started out in the comic book equivalent of a George A. Romero movie, to reading about some of the more hilarious side effects of what these new, 'Zombie Heroes' are up to because they are dead, the comic is just absolutely brilliant!

As a matter of fact, the only real problem that I have with this comic is the fact that it is to short! But if you are a comic fan, an MCU fan, or just a horror fan, or a fan of one of these combinations... Then this comic is one you should check out! I mean it is pretty awesome!

Supernatural: Episode 8: 'Bugs' (2005) - TV Episode Review

Sam & Dean are looking to squash some bugs in this episode!

So I have to say that Supernatural season 1 has been a lot of fun, with thrills, chills, fighting urban legends, ghosties, and all sorts of creepy crawleys! So of course I come up against the one dud of the season so far... And you know what? That is a good thing!

Now that maybe a weird thing... but if you think about it, it makes a sort of sense to it... If you make the first season an absolute smashing success... Then the production team, and the actor/actresses will have to work harder to meet and beat the smashingly amazing season! (That is generally part of the reason why movie sequels rarely surpass the first movie...)

And the dud episode for this season being: Season 1 - Episode 8: 'Bugs' (2005)!

These are just some of the bugs in this dull episode!

"The manicured lawns. 'How was your day, Honey'. I'd blow my brains out!"

This episode tells the story of how over 100 years ago, the military massacred a group of Indians that had been living there at that time... Now during this time an Indian Witch Doctor curses the land, so that when an equinox happens, bugs in the land will go through and clean out the area of invading mankind...

In the present time, a family has moved in and started a housing development... And well with it has come the latest equinox, and the bugs start acting weird, and killing the people that are living/working there!

It looks like the bugs are looking to squash some humans!

The only way to save these people is Sam (Jared Padalecki) & Dean (Jensen Ackles) to rescue the unsuspecting people that are living there before the centuries old curse takes out these developers!

In the end... This episode was well acted, and the vision of Kim Manners is as awesome as the other stuff that he has done... The problem that I had with this episode was the story... It just didn't appeal to me as all the other episodes story lines have done so, so far... Anyway, check it out.. The episode is not great, but it is one to check out if you are going through the show religiously...

Supernatural: Season 1 - Episode: 6: 'Skin' (2005) - TV Episode Review

Alright guys, so I know that it has been awhile, but I thought it was time we checked in with the latest episode of, 'Supernatural', and catch up with Sam & Dean as they work their way through the Demon population...

And I have to say...  This episode... Definitely an interesting take on the evil doppelganger concept that is real popular in horror and sci-fi tv shows!

By the way, the episode that I am talking about is episode 6 of season 1, 'Skin'!

Sam & Dean are working out some sibling rivalry issues... Or are they?

 Written by: John Shiban (Breaking Bad) & Directed by: Robert Duncan McNeill (Star Trek: Voyager). Starring: Jared Padalecki (Friday The 13th), Jensen Ackles (Dark Angel) & Amy Grabow (Cyberslut Killers In The Hollywood Hills).

"That better be you Sam and not that freak of nature!"

- Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) - Quote from, 'Supernatural' episode: Skin!

This episode tells the story of how while Dean (Jensen Ackles) & Sam (Jared Padalecki) are on the road to their next destination, Sam gets an email from an old friend from school that has to do with the fact that her brother (another friend of Sam's) has seemingly killed his girl friend... While not actually being their to do so...

This convinces Sam to get Dean and take off for Sam's friends, and to find out what is going on... Also how it is possible that it can be proven that Sam's friend did kill his girlfriend, while not having actually been there to do so!

It's like looking in a weird mirror right?

 Now I am going to hold off on the doppelganger part of this episode... I don't want to give to much away... But the truth is, is this episode is fun... The only problem with this episode is that it doesn't have the same flair that alot of the other episodes seem to have... The flair that makes Supernatural both fun and on the edge of your seat...

Still in the end, if you get a chance, you might want to check this episode out, it is an interesting one!

Two Shows That Were Canceled In Their Prime

Personally, at the start of the new millennium I found a trend with TV that was really quite frustrating! That trend being the fact that I noticed that more and more of the classic TV shows that made the 90s so awesome were heading off the air and being replaced with... dare I say it? CRAP!

But not just crap, they were being replaced with the likes of... Reality TV! Oh it was a dark day for the world of TV for sure...

Well fortunately channels seem to have finally gotten the hint, and have started bringing quality TV back to their stations, including Horror and Science Fiction TV shows!

With that in mind, I thought that I would give some suggestions for some TV shows that had been prematurely canceled during the dark days of the, 'Reality TV' craze, or just before it...

The first one that I thought that I would mention here is: Point Pleasant (2005):

Now this classic show, (which only lasted 13 episodes) told the story of a teenage girl whom after washing ashore during a violent storm, is taken in by the local Doctor and his family...  And as she settles in to her new life, she works to find out who she really is (and as she does so, the darker and dark nature of who she really is!)

In the end, this show ended way to early, it had a great cast, a great story line, the episode arrangement was truly fantastic, but the show was pulled due to... (poor ratiungs), well for more information on this show, please enjoy this trailer from: Point Pleasant:

The next show that I wanted to mention here is, Harsh Realm (1999 - 2000):

Now here is a show that if it had, had a chance probably would have gone on to be a truly epic cult classic, what do I mean by this, well it had some very A list TV talent, including D.B. Sweeny (Fire In The Sky), Scott Bairstow (The Postman) & even Terry O'Quinn (The Stepfather).

This show also had an awesome well thought out, 'Matrixish' pseudo-post-apocalyptic story, in which it says that the government is running a virtual reality program... There is already a lot of American Soldiers that have disappeared in to this virtual world... One of them has not only taken over the virtual world, but now threatens the real one...

So the Military sends in Lieutenant Tom Hobbs (Scott Bairstow)... His mission is to destroy the, 'General' (Terry O'Quinn)... Little does he know that besides his mission to save the world, he is going to ultimately have to figure out how to get out of that world and back to the real one and back to the woman he loves!

Well folks, there sure are a lot of these types of shows out there, but for me, these 2 shows have always seemed like the type of shows that should have been on the air longer then they were, and because they got canceled pre-maturely during the dark days of, 'Reality TV', and that fad is fading, perhaps it is time to bring them back to life... Ya think?

Supernaturtal: Season 1 - Episode 5: 'Bloody Mary' (2005) - TV Episode Review

So I have to say something about Supernatural... So far this show, despite being plagued by the utter stupidity that the entertainment industry has been injecting (albeit a lot less fortunately in the last few years), in to it's shows and movies over the last few years is really freaking awesome!

I mean they do an awesome job of bringing to life or bringing back to life urban legends, folklore & myths that have lasted for centuries... Let's just put it this way, I have heard that the show in recent years has taken a turn for the worse... (kind of like what, 'The X-Files' did at the tale end of it's run...) But if this show continues on the way it has so far, then I imagine there is still a lot of fun to be had here with this one folks!

And Episode 5: 'Boody Mary' is no different!

Written by: Ron Milbauer (Alphas), Terri Hughes (Eureka) & Directed by: Peter Ellis (Numb3ers). Starring: Jared Padalecki (Friday The 13th), Jensen Ackles (Dark Angel), Adrianne Palicki (Legion), Marnette Patterson (Starship Troopers 3: Marauders) & Genevieve Buechner (The Final Cut).

This episode tells the story of how during a sleep over Lily Shoemaker (Genevieve Buechner) and her friends decide to play the, 'Bloody Mary' game and say her name in to the mirror 3 times...

Well unsuspecting Lily's father ends up dying that night, but not just dying... He ends up dying in the same gruesome way that is mentioned in the legend of, 'Bloody Mary' in which his eyes are essentially liquefied!

Is Bloody Mary real? Did she do it, or is it something more mundane? Well in comes Sam (Jared Padalecki) & Dean (Jensen Ackles) to find out!

And in the end, these brothers will not only find out the truth about what is haunting this small group of friends, but Sam may actually be able to finally get peace after the death of the woman he loved!

In the end I could tell you a lot of reasons why this episode is great, but I will simplify it and say that this episode had a very, 'horror movie' feel to it, and I thought that was a lot of fun!

Other then that... Well I really can't say that there was to much wrong with it... It is not the best episode I have seen of the series, but it definitely rates close to it! Check it out... I think you might like it!

Supernatural. Season 1 - Episode 4: 'Phantom Traveler' (2005) - TV Episode Review

So far I have to say that I am pretty pleased with, 'Supernatural'... Unfortunately I have not been able to follow this series from the beginning... But I have seen all of season 1 and I have to say that I am very impressed with the first season of this show... I mean it does have some truly awesome stories, some great special effects, and even though they are lesser known in the earlier seasons, the guest stars are generally pretty awesome... I would even go so far as to say that these episodes really remind me of what made, 'The X-Files' so great!

And, Episode 4: 'Phantom Traveler' really exemplifies this point real nicely!

Written by: Richard Hatem (The Mothman Prophecies) & Directed by: Robert Singer (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman). Starring: Jensen Ackles (Dark Angel), Jared Padalecki (Friday The 13th), Jaime Ray Newman (Made Of Honor) & Brian Markinson (Apollo 13).

A plane crash in Pennsylvania ends up being brought to the attention of Sam (Jared Padalecki) & Dean (Jensen Ackles) by a former client of the family who also works for the airline that the plane that crashed was owned by... This guys name is, 'Jerry Panowski' (Brian Markinson).

Now the reason why he called Sam & Dean in, is that there is something otherworldly on the Plane's cockpit flight recorder...

Well as they begin to investigate, Sam & Dean will find that the reasons for these planes crashing is something more then, 'mechanical failure', and if they can't do something to stop this, then that crash may not be the last ones for the survivors of that trip!

Besides what I mentioned above, the other thing that I wanted to say, is that I found that I liked in this episode, is that there was a humorous side note that was a lot of fun!

In the end, this is a great episode, and if you are starting from the beginning of this series, then this one I think you guys will have a lot of fun with this episode... I know I did!

Star Trek: Engines Of Destiny (2005) - Gene DeWeese - Book Review

Star Trek... There is something truly eternal about this name... I mean no matter if it is in movie form, TV form, or is in the written form, most of the time these amazing works of fiction are truly awesome! (I mean there are some rare exceptions of course, but for the most part this is true...)

And as for the novels, one of the things that I think makes these novels a cut above most is that like in TV shows, most of the time when the show would introduce new character in the latest episode, you rarely see them again... (That is unless the character is going to be a regular guest star, or are going to become a part of the series... But for the most part they are only there for one episode... That is one of the things that makes the novels so awesome!)

What I mean by this is that in Star Trek novels, a lot of the time they will continue on with characters that had been made popular in one of the movies, or in one of the episodes of one of the series. A great example of this, is how the, 'New Frontier' series brought back, 'Admiral Jellico' (Played by: Ronny Cox, in, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'), 'Robin Lefler' (Played by: Ashley Judd, in, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation), and, 'Lt. Cmdr Elizabeth Shelby' (Played by: 'Elizabeth Dennehy', in, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation)... And that is just to name a few...

And another great example of this is, 'Star Trek: Engines Of Destiny' (2005), written by: Gene DeWeese ('Star Trek: The Next Generation - Peace Keepers'.)

This novel tells the story of the last surviving member of the original, 'Starship Enterprise', Captain Montgomery Scott, and how he is living in the 24th century,  out of place, and out of time, Mr. Scott... (the first miracle worker in the Starship Enterprise legacy), decides to launch an audacious plan to rescue his former Captain, who at this point in time is stuck out of time...

The only problem is that after doing so, Mr. Scott brings Kirk back to a 24th century where the, 'Federation' doesn't exist and never did... Where humanity in this time has been assimilated by the, 'Borg' and the coalition of planets that is controlled by the members of what would have been, 'The Federation' are fighting a loosing war against the, 'Borg'.

All of this is due to the fact that Kirk was needed for his final mission on Veridian 3, and stop Soran from bringing the Nexus over to destroy an inhabited planet!

And in the end, it will be up to the final 2 surviving members of the U.S.S. Enterprise to go on one last mission, and bring Kirk back to a time where he could make his final sacrifice for the, 'Federation'!

This book is so much fun that I had a hard time putting it down, and if you give it a try, you might find the same thing as well!

Supernatural: Season 1 - Episode 3: 'Dead in the Water' - TV Episode Review

Alright so, so far I have to admit something to you guys, the problem with those TV channels that we all grew up with really enjoying, is that they have up until recently, but since the beginning of the new millennium have all been dominated by piece of shit reality shows that in all truth and honesty I think have been killing network TV in the whole!

I mean be honest and ask yourself, ask your friends, 'Do you primarily watch network TV, or do you watch, 'Netflix', or, 'Hulu' or even, 'satellite TV'?' And then find out how much truly watch more of these mediums then network TV anymore... I mean for myself, almost everyone I know watches these mediums more often then they do watch network TV, and I would go so far as to say that some people have done away with access to network television in the whole! But that is not what I wanted to admit to...

No... You see, even though network TV has been horrible for most of the new millennium, it has not been all bad! I mean quality programming is just starting to come back in a major way, but during what I would call, 'the dark times', I would go on to say that there has been such awesome programming as, 'The Office', 'Monk' and, 'Supernatural'!

And this latest episode is an interesting one... You see, this episode is one that could be said to be one for the movies... Yet just was not done quite right!

You see, this episode, which was written by: Sera Gamble (The Clay Man), Raelle Tucker (True Blood), & Directed by: Kim Manners (The X-Files). Starring: Jensen Ackles (Smallville), Jared Padalecki (House Of Wax), Amy Acker (Angel), Daniel Hugh Kelly (Cujo). Bruce Dawson (White Noise) & Nico McEown (Personal Effects).

This episode tells the story about how in a small town that has been doomed to loose it's main attraction, and probably the rest of the town, when it gets drained out, has started to loose people like crazy in a series of bizarre drowning incidence... In comes Dean (Jensen Ackles), & Sam (Jared Padalecki)... You see, while searching for their missing father, they have decided to help the poor bewildered inhabitants of the town...

In then end though, Sam and Dean, along with the help with the help of  Andrea (Acker) & Lucas (McEwon) Barr, will find a truth about these drownings that will shake all of them to their very core!

Now to be honest with you, the reason that I gave this episode such a low mark is the plan and simple fact that about the first half of this episode just kind of drags on, but it has some great guest stars on it as mentioned above, and the ending was so well made that I think honestly that the ending of this episode is one that you would normally see at the end of a movie!

5 Classic Horror Shows That Were Canceled To Early

In the world of TV, just as in the world of movies, they tend to gravitate more toward Drama/Comedy/Chick Flick style movies or TV shows, a great example of this is the fact that, 'Beverly Hills 90210' a great teen drama that lasted for about a decade was on longer than, 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'...

Now don't get me wrong, both are great shows in their own right, and in all truth and fairness, most of the bigger named Science Fiction or Horror TV Programs out there do tend to last at least 5 seasons (a pretty good run considering that most of the time these shows that go on for at least 5 seasons get at least a 100 hundred episode run if not more.)

In this case I suppose more what I am talking about is those shows that didn't make it very far but should have!  Like do you remember the show, 'Cult'? Didn't last very long, but a fun show about a TV Program and how it, and it's creator influences a group of obsessed devotee's  that are looking for something specific from the past? Of course not! I mean the  show lasted less then a regular season... And you know what? That show is a show that aired earlier this year!

But I digress and apologize, I didn't mean to rant, all I meant to say is that I thought I would do this list to remind fans of some classic horror TV that was canceled well before it's time!

And for number 5: Point Pleasant (2005 - 2006)

This awesome TV series tells the story of how after a mysterious teenage girl ends up arriving in, 'Point Pleasant', a small coastal town in New Jersey, where she is taken in by an unassuming family, but the longer she stays in this town, the more she finds out the truth about herself, and who her dark mysterious father really is!

Now this show was freaking awesome, and one could almost say is a new take on, 'The Omen', but was canceled way to early and replaced with a show that didn't make it either!

For number 4: Freddy's Nightmares (1988 - 1990).

This one is an interesting one, you see this show is loosely based on Wes Craven's, 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' movie series, which was mocked up sort of similar to the old, 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' anthology show, in which Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) would come on and introduce the stories for the show...

I will admit that I have not seen to many episodes of this series (it doesn't air a lot on TV and I have as of yet been able to find it on Netflix, but the few episodes I have seen are a lot of fun, and it is just a shame that this show did not last beyond it's 2 season run!

At number 3: Night Stalker (2005):

Now here is another truly awesome series that had a strong backing (considering that this is a remake of the classic tv series, 'Kolchack: The Night Stalker' but did not end up lasting to long!

You see this show which also had a great cast, including: Stuart Townsend (Queen Of The Damned) as: Carl Kolchak, an investigative reporter whom after his wife dies, ends up investigating her murder through the strange murders of other people that he believes whose deaths are linked to the murder of his wife! Helping him on this is, Gabrielle Union (Bring It On) who plays, 'Perri Reed' another investigative reporter, as well as a few other from their newspaper!

At number 2: Millennium (1996 - 1999)

Admittedly this show has lasted longer then all of the other ones that I have mentioned above... But the reason that I decided to add this series in here is because this show was so abused and mistreated when it was having it's run that every time it was just about to hit the marks and really become something truly amazing, the shows producers seemingly felt like they would have to knock it back down!

What I mean by this, is that this show which took the lead character, who was a retired FBI Agent with seeming special insight in to the mind of a killer, and how initially he worked for a group of seeming retired investigators that consulted on crimes, but seemed to have a greater agenda that in the end, the lead character tried to stop, and destroy the organization got off to a great and creepy fun start in season 1, as a matter of fact I would say that season 1 is probably one of the more memorable seasons of strictly horror TV show to be released in the late 1990s!

But then comes season 2... I won't bore you with the details except to say that it sucked! But then comes season 3... Admittedly that season took a little bit to completely get the show back on track, and just when season 3 was just starting to get really good, and had a strong potential to make the show really something, they ended the series with an episode that really sucked!

In the end, the only saving grace for this series was the crossover that had Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Brittany Tiplady (The Pledge) who played his daughter, guest star on an episode of, 'The X-Files'

And finally at number 1: Brimstone (1998 - 1999).

I am going to be honest with you guys and say that where as all of the shows that I mentioned above were awesome, this show for me was truly spectacular that watched and re-watched a few times when the show first aired and when it went on sporadic re-runs!

This amazing show which starred: Peter Horton (Children Of The Corn) John Glover (RoboCop 2), and Lori Petty (Point Break) and which told the story of how after killing the man who raped his wife and then getting murdered himself, a Detective (Horton) is given a second chance by the Devil (John Glover) is given a second chance at redemption when he is asked to rescue a group of damned souls who have figured out a way to escape from Hell!

In the end, this is one of those few shows that I am still bummed out that it got canceled after only 1 season!

Supernatural: Season 1 - Episode 2: 'Wendigo' - TV Episode Review

Written by: Eric Kripke (Revolution), Ron Milbauer (Alphas), Terri Hughes (Idle Hands) & Directed by: David Nutter (The X-Files). Starring: Jensen Ackles (Dark Angel), Jared Padalecki (Friday The 13th), Gina Holden (Fantastic Four), Alden Ehrenreich (Stoker) & Graham Wardle (Mon Ami).

This episode of Supernatural, as it happens, takes place only a short time after the events that took place in the pilot episode, Sam (Jared Padalecki) & Dean (Jensen Ackles), are now hunting regularly together, with Sam still having some gruesome nightmares about the aftermath of the death of the love of his life in the same gruesome fashion that ended up killing his mother, and has left School!

During this time they are heading to a really small town in Colorado, a town called, 'Black Water Ridge', because that is where the coordinates that their father had sent them to... In the process they come to discover that a woman by the name of, 'Haley Collins' (Gina Holden) and her little brother, 'Ben' (Ehrenreich) are looking for their brother, who had disappeared recently in the woods that surround the town...

Well since they can't find their father, Sam (reluctantly) and Dean (happily) decide to start investigating and notice that there have been tons of disappearing campers/hikers and the like that have disappeared in the woods in this area... And so despite Sam's protests, Dean assumes that this is why his father sent the 2 brothers to this small town and decides to have the two of them start investigating, so that they could find out, 'what goes bump in the night' that they are going to have to kill to be able to stop the threat to the town, and also hopefully to help Haley and her brother and get him to safety!

In the end, I found this episode to be dramatically more satisfying... I mean the pilot had a lot of hope for it and it was alright but it had that, (Jersey Shore) mentality to it, (and what I mean by this is that it felt like to me like the first episode was overcompensating when trying to be a cool episode... And this episode rested on the laurels of being a naturally good, if not, (dare I say, 'organic'... And yes I am little scared myself right now), episode, utilizing everything that just makes a good episode of a TV show a good episode of a TV show, and in my opinion (albeit not the greatest episode of the series), was the episode that help set the tone, and quality of the series!

Supernatural: Season 1 - Episode 1: 'Pilot' TV Episode Review

One of my favorite shows that I really enjoyed watching when I was a kid was, 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'... Now I will admit that being apparently one of the few fans of the original movie, that I had not initially got in to the show, but, ultimately I really was glad that I did, because that show besides the awesome effects, talent and the like, also had a truly awesome story line that expanded well beyond just the basic story line of a woman that had been chosen to fight the forces of darkness on her own...

I mean don't get me wrong, all of that was there but that show also dealt with a lot complex social issues that people of that day and age had to deal with... And where as the concept behind Supernatural is inherently different then Buffy was, it was also similar in that instead of a group of people dealing with complex social issues while fighting the forces of Darkness, Supernatural, had more to deal with the issues of how 2 lone hunters of the forces of Darkness and how they survive in a world that requires people essentially to conform to survive!

And that is just one of many reasons why this show really was a lot of fun!

Now as for the Pilot episode. This episode was written by: Eric Kripke (Revolution) and Directed by: David Nutter (The X-Files). Starring: Jared Padalecki (Friday The 13th), Jensen Ackles (Dark Angel), Sarah Shahi (Life). Adrianne Palicki (Red Dawn), Samantha Smith (Transformers), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), and Steve Railsback (The Stunt Man).

This episode starts off 22 years earlier in the small town of Lawrence Kansas...

You see during this time the Winchester family is your average every day family... A husband and wife couple with 2 sons... All of this changes in the blink of an eye during one night that none of them will ever forget!

You see after putting young Sam and Dean to sleep, their mother. 'Mary' (Samantha Smith) looks in on her baby and sees a man that she mistakes for her husband standing by the crib... Once she realizes that the man in her baby boy's room is not their father, Mary runs up to his room to confront him and screams out!

John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Mary's husband, and the kids father was fast asleep during all of this in front of the TV, but when he hears Mary scream out, he runs up stairs and notices something in Sam's room... Mary is hanging suspended from the ceiling, when all of a sudden the fire consumes the room, and the Winchester boys have to escape!

Years later, Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Ackles) have grown up with their father giving them para-military training so that all 3 of them can go out and get the son of a bitch that killed his wife and their mother so many years ago!

The only problem is that Sam has left the  family business to pursue a legal career and is currently in college at Stanford, and Dean and their father have essentially disconnected from Sam... That is until John disappears and Dean enlists Sam's help in finding him!

In the end this series is an awful lot of fun... This episode had a lot of potential, but was not the best of the series... Don't get me wrong, it truly was a fun episode, and I thought the struggle for Sam between going after his father Vs. staying at School was quite fascinating... And the special effects when it came to the pyrotechnics in the first scene when Mary is burned up was really well made... But the truth is, is that I didn't like the way this episode ended... And I know that with the only problem I have being the ending shouldn't be a huge issue, but it is!

You see I am not a fan of the cheap way of doing things... the almost, 'Jersey Shore' way of doing things... What I mean is, is that I liked the fact that ultimately Sam made the decision, but this whole change thing, I don't believe it, and I am also convinced that if it were me and my girlfriend died that I would not be one of the most happiest people in the world... Angry, Sad, whatever, in some way you would see it on my face... But Sam on the other just kind of jumped back in to his career... And all that I just am not convinced would have went down the way it did!

In the end this show is a lot of fun, and even this episode is pretty solid, and I suspect that if you keep up with the series that you might find this show to be a lot of fun... I did, and you might to!

Aeon Flux (2005) - Movie Review

I am not 100% certain of this, but I am fairly certain that with the subsequent success of, Johnny Mnemoic (1995) and the release and subsequent success of ‘The Matrix’ franchise, (both of which are great movies that starred Keanu Reeves), that the studios started working on big budget Science Fiction movies that had to do with a specific hero that has very unique powers that they had kind of been given to them at least to some extent…

Now there is something interesting that I thought that I would mention about these types of films. First off usually these types of movies tend to have big budget talent working on them, and they often are pretty well made, but oddly enough, don’t seem to do really good in the box office (or in some cases never made it on to the big screen!)

A few examples of course of these types of films being:

1. Equilibrium (2002), a fun movie that starred Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises) before he became the, ‘Batman’, and worked to take down a drugged out advanced society…

2. Another one is Ultraviolet (2006), a movie which starred, Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element)… Now this movie was sort of a bland and extremely far-fetched attempt to show how a super soldier can take on her masters and win (some times going so far as to take out 100 guys at a time….)

And the last one that I thought that I would mention here is the movie, Aeon Flux (2005)… Now this movie which was written by Phil Hay (Clash Of The Titans), Matt Manfredi (The Tuxedo) and directed by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), and which starred: Charlize Theron (Prometheus), Martin Csokas (xXx), Jonny Lee Miller (Hackers), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanada), Frances McDormand (Almost Famous), and Pete Postlethwaite (Inception) was great!

You see this movie told the story of how after a plague nearly wipes mankind off of the face of the planet, one man ends up curing the human race… The only problem is that there appears to be unforeseen consequences that he and his future generations will race against the clock to try and fix before the end of the world really comes!

Now of course no one knows about this, and everyone appears to have been relegated to one major city (The last major city on Earth)… and a rebel group by the name of, ‘The Monacans’ have decided to try and stop the reign of the governments tyranny against the population, and they are about to get their chance…

You see, The Monacans have gotten their opportunity to strike at Chancellor Goodchild (Csokas), and end up sending in their assassin, by the name of Aeon Flux (Theron) to assassinate him… but by the time she gets their she ends ups getting more then she bargained for and ultimately ends up fighting with the one man she has sworn to fight against!

Now I thought this movie had a great concept (which, so that I don’t ruin it for you guys I won’t be saying.) I also thought that this movie was very well written and acted, and some fun action scenes that should keep you on the edge of your seat… In the end, the only thing that I really thought was dumb, was the special effects and the over use of the concept of genetic engineering to cure all ills (including some sort of weird tiny little light switch in the back of the Monacans that could be used as a telephone, and some sort of plant life that shot spikes like machine guns…

All in all though definitely a fun one, and one that you guys might like as well!
