The Song Of The Week: Skrillex's Rock 'N Roll (Will Take The Mountain)

I was recently talking with a buddy of mine, the CEO over at AwesomeBMovies & MoviePosterDirect, 'Matt Dowling', and he gave me a brilliant idea for a new segment that we will be offering up to you guys once a week, that is the, 'Song Of The Week'!

And to inaugurate this run, I thought that you Skrillex fans would enjoy, 'Rock 'N Roll (Will Take The Mountain)' from Skrillex's 2010 album, 'Scary Monsters Nice Spirits'!

So enjoy!

Remixes... Sometimes A Good Thing

Remixes... Now before I go on, let me say this... For me I have to say that I have been a fan of a fair amount of remixes over the years, don't get me wrong, for my money, the original will always be the best, but some times a good remix can take a fun song and make it better... And some times they cannot!

In the world today there are many great examples of remixed music that I found that I have really liked, like stuff from Rob Zombie... And most directly a song that I recently have discovered that was remixed recently, a song that he did when he was in White Zombie called, 'Thunder Kiss '65'... Now the truth is, is I liked this song a lot when White Zombie did it, but I found the take on this song to be an awful lot of fun as well!

For more information on this song, please enjoy!

Another talent that I have found that I really like a lot on his own, but I have also found that the remixed versions of his music to also be a lot of fun is, 'Michael Jackson's' music!

Now for the fans out there, don't crucify me... But it is true! Michael Jackson was when he was alive and maintain's posthumously being an absolutely amazing musical genius... But what some people have done to his music... (Well let's be honest, nothing beats Michael's music,) but what some of these people have done to his music, may not be better then the original, but is actually a fair amount of fun!

For more information, please enjoy!

Now for the more darker side to remixes... For this, before I continue I should say that I don't know a whole heck of a lot about this type of remix music, but that is those songs that just suck (I don't know a lot about these because I honestly prefer the original over the remix,) but still...

For this I wanted to mention a remixed song that Skrillex did for Rob Zombie's song, 'Sick Bubblegum'... It just plain sucked... This song was given a weird electronic techno butchered version of the song (which in my opinion, in and of itself is not cool, because the original song pretty well rocks!)

Either way, check it out for yourself...

In the end, there is a lot of really good and really bad remixes out there, and I got to thinking about them recently... especially due to the fact that I was recently listening to the Rob Zombie one that I first mentioned... And I have to say that I truly enjoyed it... And if you give it a try, you might as well!

Skrillex: Cinema (2011) - Song Review

[caption id="attachment_330" align="alignright" width="220"]Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils Official Score = 2 1/2 Devils[/caption]

Skirellx... Man so far I have to say that I am just extremely impressed with this guys masterful work!  I mean it has been rare for me to say that I have been a fan of techno, (I used to find the repetitive beats of older techno to be extremely irritating,) but since listening to Skrillex tear it up with what I could only describe as (alternative techno), to be both fun, and as an artist myself, a little bit inspiring!

Well this latest song I actually found out about, by mistake when I was looking for another song, and in all truth, I have to say that this song is not the worst song I have ever heard, it is also not a bad song, it just isn't a personal favorite of mine, that song being, 'Cinema'... A remixed version of a Benny Benassi song that first aired on WWE in 2011!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="472"] Skrillex doing, 'Cinema'.[/caption]

Now the truth is, is this song is not bad... It has all of the same beats and style that I would attribute to Skrillex and his mad genius, the only problem that I have found with this song is that it is not particularly original...

Oh don't get me wrong the song itself isn't literally every song that he has ever produced, and again it is not a particularly bad song, it is just not all that different, the tone for that song feels just about the same as, 'Bangarang' or even, 'My Name Is Skrillex'... In the end, I would say the greatest quality of Skrillex is his originality in his music and how he arranges it, and lacking that... You might get a good song, I just am not sure it is the, 'right song'

Anyway, this song does have it's moments, and if you give it a try, you might find the same thing as well!

Skrillex: Bangarang (2010) - Song Review

[caption id="attachment_385" align="alignright" width="353"]Official Score = 2 Devils Official Score = 2 Devils[/caption]

You know up till recently I have to admit that one of the types of music that I was not really much of a fan of is, 'Techno'... Don't get me wrong, it is not the worst thing, but most of the types of techno that I have heard is just annoyingly repetitive!

Well recently my wife kind of got me in to listening to, 'Skrillex'... I gotta say that I am pretty freaking impressed! Don't get me wrong, there are still some fairly repetitive beats to his work, but in the end I have found that in the way that he arranges his songs that they are not just repetitive, but that they are fun... Almost in a techno version of a Robert Rodriguez movie...

Weird right?

Well what I mean by this is that his songs are dirty, they are more gutteral! And I found that to be rather a lot of fun... It definitely worked for the song he did in 2010, 'Bangarang'!

[caption id="attachment_2406" align="aligncenter" width="225"]A fun song! A fun song![/caption]

Put together for his 2011 album of this same name, when listening to this song, I really found that I could almost be in a techno club listening to this song!

If you haven't heard this song yet, then I highly recommend doing so, the truth is, is that I found this song to be a pretty solid good time, not the best of his work, but certainly not the worst!

Skrillex: My Name Is Skrillex (2010) - Song Review

[caption id="attachment_325" align="alignright" width="263"]Official Score = 3 Devils Official Score = 3 Devils[/caption]

To be honest with you guys, up till recently I really wasn't in to the whole techno scene, I mean repetitive beats and all for the most part generally up til recently tended to annoy me (A great example of this is when I happen to be walking down the street one night and there was a car that I walked past that had repetitive beats along with some one who just kept saying the same phrase over and over again...) Annoying right?

Well a few months ago I was listening to Pandora and I happen to be listening to this one song and kind of finding it to be rather interesting... That song of course being, 'My Name Is Skrillex' by music producer, 'Skrillex'...

Well you know what? I have to admit that I kind of got hooked, I mean, 'My Name Is Skrillex' happened to be the first techno song that wasn't just repetitive beats that you can supposedly dance to that I had ever listened to, in this case it was dirty, it visceral... Not to sound to cheesy, but it was fun!

[caption id="attachment_1703" align="aligncenter" width="320"]A great song! A great song![/caption]

This song had a beat that I can imagine that you probably could dance to, but it also had a lot more to it (including lyrics), that made it not just some repetitive peace of shit song that a bunch of pretentious trendy club goers could go and dance to and get high and get drunk to.... 'Although as I write this I am sure that there is some underground all night club some where on Earth where a bunch of trendy pot heads who are drunk are probably getting off to this song'...

I apologize for the negativity, the truth is, is this song really does kick ass, and rather or not you are a fan of techno or not, this song is a kick ass heavy duty song that is well worth the time, and if you haven't checked out this song, then you might find out the same thing as well, and if you haven't checked out the artist who made this song yet, then this is probably one of the better songs to introduce yourself to his work!
