Five Great Classic Rock Songs From The 70s!

As far as music goes... Well there is a lot of great music out there that has spanned really the last 100 years! But as far as Rock 'N Roll is concerned, well... The 50s had some great Rock 'N Roll with people like, 'Elvis Presley' and the 60s had greats like, 'The Beatles', and so I thought it was about time that I started highlighting some of the great music from some of these eras, and so I thought I would start with Classic Rock, and more directly with the 1970s!

At number 5: AC/DC with, 'T.N.T.' from their 1976 album of the same name:

There are a lot more great songs from this era, but I thought that I would highlight these because these songs really are some truly classic rock songs!

Musicians Doing Movies

Elvis Presley... Not exactly some one who did horror, but the King Of Rock did a have a pretty solid movie career!

I don't know about you guys... But for me, the movies that I have seen in which a famous Musician has made the transfer in to doing movies as well are actually pretty good!

Now I can't say that about all of them, because well, I haven't seen all of them, but the ones that I have seen, well I have to say that they pretty well rock! Now I am not necessarily talking about musicals, although those are pretty good as well.

Now why is it that they seem to do pretty good? Well I am going to say that there are a few reasons for this:

1. Obviously at least some of the movies that these musicians have been in tended to involve music in some way...

2. Well besides what was mentioned above, I also think it is because these guys are already in the public spotlight, and so they almost always seem to project a certain kind of veneer when the paparazzi are snapping photos. I think that, that false veneer generally tends to lend itself to helping musicians play believable roles.

Ultimately though, I think that the reason this seems to work so well is the fact that it seems like, (well to me anyway,) that at least to some extent that most of the mediums (i,e... Writing, Making Movies, Or Making Music,) generally have a certain element of creating something out of nothing, and well I think that the artist can use this pretty well to help them, no matter if they are writing, or making music, or making movies...

A great example of this from the world of music, is when Alice Cooper played, 'Freddy's Dad' in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)... Now this guy does a great job of making some truly scary music, but when he played Freddy's dad... Forget about it! The guy scared me the first time I saw the movie!

Now there are a bunch of Musicians that do have a resume of films under the belt... Not all of them are Horror, or Science Fiction movies, but I thought that you guys would be interested to know that some of the more scary musicians from the world of, 'Hard Rock' and, ' Heavy Metal' have made their way in to scaring the hell out of people on the big screen!

Alice Cooper: School's Out (1972) - Song Review

When I was a teenager and was just beginning to get pretty involved in horror movies, one of the first types of horror movies that I got in to was the, 'Teen Slasher' horror movie craze that was really popular back in the mid 90s... There  was a ton of them, including such awesome fanfare as: Scream (1996) & I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), as well as so much more!

But there was one movie that at the time I had mistaken for being one of the teen slasher films, that being... The Faculty (1998)... Now I thought that this movie was the in a similar context to the ones that I had mentioned above because... Well let's be honest here, it is a horror movie that definitely involved teens fighting an overwhelming threat... But well... As it turns out it was more of an Alien Invasion then a teen slasher... but well, that is something else for the future...

The reason that I mention this is because there is a song that I first heard that was a part of the soundtrack to this movie, and which was first released by Alice Cooper... And that song being: School's Out (1972)!

Now this album was released in 1972 as a part of his fifth album of the same name I would say is one of his more popular songs, having been covered many times over the decades, as well as having been used in a bunch of movies as well as TV series such as: Degrassi. Glee & The Simpsons... That is to name a few!

Five Great Rock 'N Roll Gods From The 1970s You Could And Should See In Concert!

The one thing that I have noticed is that in the world of music, like everything, times change, and the wheels of progress go in new, different and at times worse, but also at times better then their predecessors music... And well the truth is, is that say between the music of the 80s and the music of today is completely, and drastically different!

And well... If you are a fan of  music from different days, well with time marching on, there are a ton of Rock icons out there that are still working regularly, that are not only still totally epic, but if you are a fan music from all sorts of decades, well these bands are ones that you should see in concert at the first chance!

At number 5: Queen.

Now this band got it's started in the late 60s, and since then have been working fairly steadily, having created such truly awesome songs as: Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You & We Are The Champions (and that is just to name a few!)

And with the fact they are still playing, this band is more then well worth checking out!

At number 4: Alice Cooper.

Now admittedly this guy is a little older then most, but the truth is, is that the Godfather of Rock, is still working hard, and playing great, and apparently still touring, so if you get a chance to check this scary monster of metal out... Well... If you like that type of music... Then hell yeah, check them out! And if you don't... Then why are you still reading this blog?

At number 3: Def Leppard.

Alright, well... I hate to admit that I don't know a hell of a lot of their music (a situation that I do intend to remedy,) but what I do know, and from what I have listened to... These guys rock! They have always rocked! They will always rock! And I hope to see them live some day!

Now KISS... Boy what can I say about these guys? I mean they are true rock legends, that have been playing for decades! From what I understand of it, these power players are still playing strong, and if you have the chance to catch them in concert... Do so, I doubt you will regret it!

On this one guys, I have to be honest and say that I was not anticipating this... I mean forget about it... These guys are one of those bands that in my opinion is synonymous with Rock 'N Roll in the 70s... Their song, 'Free Bird' is absolutely amazing... And since they are still playing... Well this is one any one who likes this type of music should go see! I mean, they truly rock!

Now there are a ton of other greats from that era, these though are some truly epic bands from back then, that well I was thinking that if you get a chance to see, you should!

Alice Cooper: Feed My Frankenstein (1992) - Song Review

You know, as we get more and more in to the new millennium, I have come to realize that the music of the new millennium is not as bad as I initially thought that it was... Don't get me wrong, the pervasive nature of, 'Tween' music, and, 'Beiber mania' just really pisses me off!

I have since though come to discover that there are some truly great bands that have come out since the year 2000, including: 'Disturbed', 'Skrillex' and the like...

Well the reason that I mention this, is that where as it is true that there is some awesome music being produced since the year 2000, I have begun to wonder what happened to some of the greats that we haven't heard from in awhile... Such people as, 'Ozzy Osbourne', or 'Megadeth'....

Well to be honest with you, I don't have an answer for them all, but it sure would be great to see some of them pop up... Like, 'Alice Cooper'!

I first discovered Alice Cooper when in the 1990s I first discovered, Wayne's World (1992), and I discovered the hit song, 'Feed My Frankenstein' (1992).

This awesome song was created for Alice Cooper's 19th solo album, 'Hey Stoopid'. This awesome song had some truly amazing instrumentals by Mickey Curry, Robert Bailey, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & Nicki Sixx that just arranged together, along with the vocals of Alice Cooper, are just a thing of beauty... And I think it is a safe to say that due it's strong connection to horror movies, that this is just a must for the true horror fan as well!

5 Awesome Bands That Still Rock And That If You Can, You Should See Live

Believe it or not folks, I have been a metal head for all of my adult life, and for a decent sized portion of when I was a teenager... I have listened to a lot of truly spectacular music, have owned some awesome mementos from some amazing moments for some of whom I would consider to be some of the best bands head banging rock bands ever,  and have even owned more then a few concert DVD's for some of these groups... But the one thing that I have never done is see any of them live!

Believe it or not, I have only ever actually been to one concert in my life! (A situation where in the first chance I get, I absolutely intend to rectify it!)

So I was thinking recently, about who would be my top 5 bands... A real dream team that if I had the opportunity to see would be absolutely fantastic... So I thought that I would share with you guys, '5 Awesome Bands That Still Rock And That If You Could, You Should See Live'.

At number 5: Anthrax.

The truth is, is more or less Anthrax is a relatively recent band that I have just gotten in to, and the truth is, is that they have some truly awesome songs, and I feel like they would be an absolute blast, but when it comes down to it... All of their good songs are really good, and all of their bad songs are absolutely atrocious... But they really do deserve one of the top 5 spots, because their good songs are freaking awesome!

At number 4: KISS.

Now I am aware that for what ever reason, that KISS has become a modern day joke to a lot of people, but they rocked back in the 70s when they first came to prominence, and they rock just as much now!

At number 3: Iron Butterfly.

Unfortunately due to their age, I hate to be morbid about this, but I can't imagine there will be to many more opportunities to see these guys in action due to the fact that they have been going on strong for literally decades... But the truth is, is their music, and especially one of the songs that they are most recognized for, 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida'  does not just still kick major ass, but was  culturally defining for the 1960s in regards to it's type of music... So you know I had to put them in there!

At number 2: Alice Cooper.

He may not be exactly a band... But he is Alice freaking Cooper... You know I had to put him in there!

At number 1: Metallica.

I will be honest with you guys and say that this choice maybe partly a personal preference (but that is because they are still my favorite band of all time.), also if you are a metal head like me, then it is well worth seeing them in person (I know I would love to!)

In the end, there are a lot of great bands, but for my money, I would say that these guys rock, and would be my dream team if I only had 5 bands that I could see!
