The Many Faces Of Doctor Who From The Original Series As Well As TheUpdated Series

Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant & Matt Smith... The first 3 Doctors from the revived series.
I have to say that I am a lucky man... What I mean by this, is that my wife is also a fan of one of my favorite genres of all time, she is a huge fan of, 'Science Fiction'! And well, when we first got married, we were looking for a series that we could both enjoy, and since my wife also is a fan of the, 'BBC', she recommended that we try the recently re-released, 'Doctor Who' series...

Well for myself, up to this point, I had never heard of Doctor Who, but the truth is, is I was impressed, and am now a total fan... But we will get to that in the future... With the fact that (broken up as it maybe on netflix,) I was able to go back and watch all of the classic, 'Doctor Who' episodes that netflix currently has available!

Now before I continue, let me clarify it with this: Netflix has only a few episode for about 18 seasons... They unfortunately don't have all of the Doctor's up either... Which is unfortunate... but there is reasons for that, that I will go in to later...

Anyway, with having recently gone through, 'Classic Who', I thought that you might enjoy: 'The Many Faces Of Doctor Who From The Original Series As Well As The Remake Series'!

To start off we have: William Hartnell (Hell Drivers):

The First Doctor, Played by: William Hartnell
Now William Hartnell... Like, 'Star Trek: The Original Series', maybe a Doctor that is mostly recognized by diehard fans these days... But the truth is, is this man who was the, 'first' to play the legendary role, and who played it from the beginning of the series in 1963 up to 1966... And would be seen one last time in, 'The Three Doctor's', reprising his role for one final go round, is probably one of the more important, if anything just because he was the first!

The second Doctor: Played by Patrick Troughton (The Omen):

Patrick Troughton as, 'The Second Doctor'!
I would say that this Doctor was pretty important as well, if anything because it established an element of the series that would become a standard bearer for the rest of the series, The Doctor's 'regeneration'... Basically whenever a Doctor died off, the actor's replacement would come in, and he would be a new Doctor, but it is essentially explained the fact that he doesn't really, 'die' persay... but regenerates in to another being... And as for Patrick Troughton's run as, 'The Doctor', we would have 3 fun filled years between 1966 - 1969, as well as get to see him in 3 important Doctor Who specials, 'The Three Doctors' (1972 - 1973), which also brought William Hartnell back as well, along with the current Doctor at the time (Jon Pertwee), as well he would come back again for the 20th anniversary, which would also see the first five Doctors together... And again for a final time in 1985 when he was brought together with the Sixth Doctor for one final round in the series!

And next we have the third, 'Doctor' played by: Jon Pertwee (The Zero Imperative):

The Third Doctor: Jon Pertwee.
I will say this... As far as classic, 'Who' goes, this one would probably rate in my top 3... In the limited episodes I have been able to see, I found him to be both hilarious at times, as well as serious at all the right moments... And I am going to say that I can't wait to see the rest of his regular run from 1970 - 1974... As well as, 'The Five Doctors', as well as the, Doctor Who/EastEnders crossover from the early 90s!

The Fourth Doctor: Tom Baker (The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad):

Tom Baker as: The Fourth Doctor!
So far from all of the Doctor of, 'Classic Who' I am going to say that he is my favorite, and as far as the who of, 'Doctor Who' he is probably in my top 5, the reason being is that besides the fact that Tom Baker generally played the role as, 'Cool', but also as kooky, the episode he was in were generally fun, and more then well worth it!

As for the Fifth Doctor we have: Peter Davison (Tales Of The Unexpected):

The Fifth Doctor: Peter Davison.
In my opinion, not one of the better Doctors... But I think that, that may just be the episodes that Netflix has for his run are pretty lame... Because as an actor, Peter Davison did a pretty excellent job as, 'The Doctor.'

The Sixth Doctor: Colin Baker (Top Gear):

Colin Baker as: The Sixth Doctor.
Honestly, Don't know much about this Doctor... Never seen any of his episodes, but I do know that he has maintained at least some interest in, 'Doctor Who', having appeared in a documentary last year called: The Five(ish) Doctors (2013), about Peter Davison's, Sylvester McCoy's & Colin Baker's interests in reprising their roles for the 50th anniversary.

The Seventh Doctor: Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey):

The Seventh Doctor: Sylvester McCoy.
The truth  is, is this Doctor is pretty awesome... He had the comedic appeal of all the classic Doctor's that came before him, but with the more serious contemporary attitude that was slowly becoming the thing in the late 80 and through out the 90s... He takes time to get used to, but when you do, you won't regret it!

And for the last of, 'Classic Who', The Eighth Doctor: Paul
McGann (Luther):

The Eighth Doctor, played by: Paul McGann.
Unfortunately I have not had a chance to see his work as the Eighth Doctor, but if it is anything like his work in, 'Luther' or in, Alien 3 (1992)... Well to say the least, I suspect it is pretty top drawer!

And now on to the new series:

For the Ninth Doctor: Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World):

The Ninth Doctor, played by: Christopher Eccleston.
As an actor, Christopher Eccleston is an amazing talent, and he brought an awesome sort of dark humor to a very different Doctor in this series... It was sad to see him end his his run... But like all good things, they must end...

And as for the Tenth Doctor, this one was played by: David Tennant (Fright Night):

The Tenth Doctor, played by: David Tennant.

As a personal note, where as I would say that Tom Baker maybe my favorite of the, 'Classic Who' era, I am going to say that David Tennant is probably my favorite of the remake series, as well as maybe the entire franchise! Don't get me wrong, I thought Christopher Eccleston, and the rest of the, 'Whos' that I have seen have done an awesome job, I am going to say that David did the best... Granted he came in on a story line that had already been developed in large part during Eccleston's run... He pushed that to the limit... And the truth is, is you could tell he genuinely has a love for the role!  If you get a chance to check out his run on Doctor Who... It is well worth it, because I may love his work, but he is still highly regarded in the world of, (Doctor Who), despite having been off the series as a regular for the past few years!

The Eleventh Doctor: Matt Smith (Lost River):

The Eleventh Doctor, Played by: Matt Smith.
Don't know much of his work, but from what I have seen, he seems to have done pretty good in his run as: 'The Doctor.'

The current and 12th Doctor: Peter Capaldi (Paddington):

Peter Capaldi as a guest in an earlier, 'Who' episode has stepped in to the role of the, '12th' Doctor!
This Doctor is still pretty new, so we are going to have wait and see, but if he is like the rest of them... Well he is sure to do great!

In the end, from William Hartnell to Peter Capaldi, every actor who has played the role has brought something unique and awesome to the role, and so I hope you guys have liked this look at: The Many Faces Of Doctor Who From The Original Series As Well As The Updated Series
