You know what? There is a very good reason why so many of the Victorian era science fiction & horror novels that were turned in to movies have had such a long lasting impact on the history of movies in the whole!
I mean these books were just so well written, and so engrossing, that they just held you mesmerized in such a way, that I hate to say it, but in some cases are not really seen in the modern day as much as they did say 120 years ago!
The reason that I mention this is that there is a book that I really enjoyed as a kid, that has translated on to the big screen real nicely... That novel being H.G. Wells, 'The Time Machine' (1895)!

This awesome story tells the tale of a Victorian era Scientist and Inventor, whom after inventing a time machine, ends up using it, and having the adventure of a life time, when he travels in various points through out time, including when he arrives in 802,701 and introduces himself to the child like men and women of the, 'Eloi' society, and even when eventually meeting with the more violent, devolved, 'Ape Like' people that live in the dark... The Morlocks!
In the end, the one and only thing that I found hard to reconcile at the time... And well I will be honest and say that this would probably be a problem if you aren't a fan of 19th century novels, is that the writing is definitely a sign of the times, and something that doesn't always translate in to the 21th century...
Give it a try though, I think you might like it, I know i did!
