Street Fighter 2... One Of The Most Significant Sequels In Video Game History

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="384"] Street Fighter 2 is one example of a video game sequel that gave way to it's own franchise![/caption]

That's right folks, I doubt that there are many (If any) sequels in the history of the video gamming experience where a sequel can not only be said to be more popular then the original, but could become historically relevant, while the first one is all but completely forgotten about by everyone but the most series fans, like, 'Street Fighter 2'!

Don't get me wrong, I imagine that the first, 'Street Fighter' video game was probably a fair amount of fun, but be honest... Have you ever played it? Do you know anyone who has ever played it? Did you even know that, 'Street Fighter' existed? How many people can you say that you honestly know that have ever even heard of this game?

Well let's just say that because of that fact that, 'Street Fight 2' is not only a fun and fascinating video game sequel, and a series in and of it's self, but it has one component that puts it up there with such greats as, 'Super Mario Bros.' or, 'Sonic The Hedgehog', and that is the fact that all that I just mentioned above has not been done to the level that, 'Street Fighter 2' did it, but not only that, but made sequels of the sequel so well!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="504"] This version of the classic video game for the, 'Sega Genesis' is just one of many classic examples of why this video game is so awesome![/caption]

You see this game which was originally simply released as, 'Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior' in 1991 for the Arcade by Capcom... This game was so popular that it helped to usher in a decade of truly classic competetive fighting video games such as, 'Mortal Kombat' and, 'Tekken' but that wasn't all

You see, the following year saw the release of, 'Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition'.

This version was an upgrade that allowed the player to play as just about all of the Characters... But they weren't done yet!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition may be only the first upgrade from the original game, but even today it holds up to it's lineage![/caption]

No, you see, with the release of bootleg rom chips, Capcom was prompted in to creating: 'Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting'

Essentially this new version (which was released the same year as, 'Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition'), was the first release of the Street Fighter 2 video game series that handled the flaw of slow fighting that had been plaguing the franchise since the first, 'Street Fighter 2' video game was released. This game also saw the release of some new moves as well!

1993 saw the release of a new majorly upgraded, 'Street Fighter 2' video game called, 'Super Street Fighter 2'...

[caption id="attachment_2269" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Super Street Fighter 2 would be the first truly major upgrade of the series... Super Street Fighter 2 would be the first truly major upgrade of the series...[/caption]

This video game saw a move to a more advanced system called, 'CP System II' which allowed for upgraded graphics and music... But besides that, it also saw the release of some new characters for the player to play as!

1994 saw the release of the final run of the now epic, 'Street Fighter 2' franchise in the arcades with, 'Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo'...
This final release would see the characters getting power ups, and some truly awesome super moves...

Now I mentioned above that this is the last time that a, 'Street Fighter 2' video game would be made for the arcade... That is true... But that wasn't all! You see Street Fighter was also brought home for players to play on newer versions of the game, as well as the classic arcade versions for various home and portable game consoles, including: The Super Nintendo, The Sega Genesis, Playstation, Sega Saturn, Playstation 2, Xbox, Playstation Portable & The Gameboy...

In the end, if you are like me and grew up playing these amazing and entertaining video games, then I hope you have enjoyed this walk down memory lane. If you have never tried any of these games, then I would recommend doing so... Trust me when I say, if you like fighting games, then I think you might really like these!
