What is a B Movie? Well originally the intention when labeling a movie a, 'B Movie' is a way of identifying a movie as being, 'Bad'... As a matter of fact their is a whole system, that not only includes labeling a, 'B' movie as, 'Bad' but if the Director him or herself don't like the film then they usually mark it as, 'Alan Smithee' having made it!
But in the last few decades or so their has been this growing wave of people who have turned what initially had been considered to be, 'Bad' movies in to icons of pop culture films, or, 'Cult' films, and I have to admit that I am a huge fan of B Movies!
The reasons for this are innumerable, but first of all, yes it is true that the special effects are oft times incredibly cheesy (But not always), the costume design is often times campy as hell (But again not always), and oft times the scripts are written in what a lot of the critics would say is pretty pedestrian...
You know what? All that I mentioned from above is part of the reason why these movies are so often so great!
You see despite the truly ultra low budget nature of these movies, they oft times have some amazing talent, with a Director that can usually turn the limited resources that he or she has to use, and turn it in to something that most of the time is truly an amazing, fun time! And all of this is true in the case of, Starcrash (1978)!
Written by: Luigi Cozzi (Hercules), Nat Wachsberger (They Came To Rob Las Vegas) & Directed by: Luigi Cozzi. Starring: Caroline Munro (Maniac), Marjoe Gortner (Earthquake), Christopher Plummer (A Beautiful Mind), David Hasselhoff (Baywatch), Robert Tessier (The Deep), Nadia Cassini (The Nurse In The Military Madhouse), Judd Hamilton (The Last Horror Film) & Joe Spinell (Maniac).

Starcrash is the amusing story of 2 outlaws by the name of Akton (Gortner) and Stella Star (Munro), you see these two star smugglers have been being chased by the Imperial Police Force all over the Universe literally for years!
During the most recent chase by their nemesis, Elle (Hamilton) and Thor (Tessier) they end up coming across an Imperial launch that was completely powered down and mostly empty...
While this is all going down Elle and Thor do manage to catch up with them and due to the fact that they have an unwanted vistor, Akton and Stella Star decide that it would probably be best if they just let themselves be captured (so that they're guest can get the medical treatment that he needs.)
Ultimately this gives both of them harsh prison sentences... That is until their 2 pursuers end up finally catching up to them and setting them both free (they both got sentenced to different penal colonies on separate planets!
You see due to their deft piloting skills and teamwork, the Emperor (Plummer) has asked that they journey in to the territory of Count Zarth Arn (Spinell) and see about locating a major base on a secret planet with in his territory and destroy it, as well as try and locate his son, 'Simon' (Hasselhoff) and rescue him if they can.

So off they go on their mission to save the Empire, save lives, an adventure that will change the course of galactic events all over the universe... Because if they fail, they're maybe no hope for the forces of good in the fight against the forces of Darkness!
In the end this movie truly is an awesome piece of B Movie mastery, and if you get a chance to see it, and you are a fan of these types of movies, then you might find the same results as well!
